ROSE
I smiled as soon as I opened the door. The woman standing beside Alpha Damien looked exactly like her grandmother, my best friend, Daisy.
"You look just like your grandma, Guinevere." I said, grabbing her hand with a light smile on my face, "please come inside."
"You knew my grandma?" Guinevere asked as she stepped inside my home.
"Ah yes, your grandma and we're pack mates. We were as close as sisters. It broke my heart to hear of her passing. At the time, my Cornelius was sick himself, or else I would've attended her wake."
"It's okay, "Guinevere smiled, tears in her eyes, "Grammy always said she'd rather be remembered alive and well instead of dead and in a casket."
Damien stepped forward and wrapped his arm around Guinevere's waist, pulling her in.
"So, I take it you're looking to break the bond between you?" I glared at Damien.
Damien swallowed nervously, removing his hand from Guinevere's waist and adjusting his collar, but Guinevere answered my question first.
"Yes, Elder Rose. Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to leave the Blue Moon pack and become something other than the Daughter of a Traitor. Mated to the Alpha, I would never be allowed to leave. This connection between Damien and me is strong. It keeps pulling us closer. I need this bond to break if I want to become something else."
I nodded at Guinevere's explanation. It made sense. She ran away from years of pain and torment as my Great Grandma Esmerelda had.
"And what is your reason for wanting this bond to break?" I asked, looking at Damien. Damien looked at Guinevere; it felt like he was trying to stare into her soul and see if she harbored any feelings for him.
"I want Gwynn to be happy," he paused before shaking his head and answering further," I also want to be a good Alpha and have my pack backing; I can't do that with the Daughter of a traitor as my Luna. Other packs will see me as weak."
My heart hurt for both of them. I could tell that Damien's reasoning was entirely selfless, and although Guinevere's reasoning may have sounded selfish to some, I knew that her life must have been hell growing up.
"Well, I don't know if my story will be able to help you out, but there might be a possibility of breaking your bond," I said, reaching once again for my Great Grandma's diary.
GUINEVERE
"I want Gwynn to be happy." My breath caught in my throat when I heard Damien say those words.
'We could be happy with Damien.' Sabrina said.
Her words weren't wrong either. These last few days that I had spent with Damien had been the best days of my life. I attributed all of our relationship to the mate bond, but maybe Damien and I could have been friends; we could even continue our friendship.
'No, you'll never want to see Damien again; once this bond breaks it will b,e like losing a piece of your soul. Knowing that he is no longer yours, the pain will be devastating each time you look upon Damien.'
I rolled my eyes and could feel myself becoming flustered. Sabrina could be so dramatic sometimes. I felt a hand brush on my arm, and suddenly I felt calmer. I looked up and saw that Damien was stroking my arm. He had a questioning look, but I just shook my head and smiled up at him. Maybe Sabrina wasn't being so dramatic after all. I don't want to lose this; I don't want to lose Damien.
DAMIEN
I closed the diary Rose had passed over to me, my wolf growling in a fit of rage. 'NO ONE WILL TOUCH WHAT IS OURS!' Leos' voice thundered in the back of my head. I felt the same way too. I could never let Guinevere be with someone else. She was mine. I closed my eyes while rubbing my temples, trying to calm my wolf down.
Guinevere's voice interrupted my thoughts, "So all we have to do is find someone else to love us, and then once they Mark us and we mark them back, completing the mating ritual, the bond between Damien and I will be over." Guinevere asked, looking over at Rose.
Rose sighed, "yes, that's the gist of it, but I have a feeling your bond will be harder to break. My great-grandma Esmerelda and her first mate Alfred had already despised each other. There wasn't much of the bond left, just fragments still holding them together. Going through the other journals, Esmerelda didn't write much about breaking the bond, but she did right about my great-grandpa and how she was glad the moon goddess had given her a second chance at true happiness. I'd pray to the moon goddess and ask her for help in breaking your bond. She may have other answers for you."
The clock on Rose's wall chimed, signaling that it was already 8:00 pm. I stood from the table and walked over to Rose, extending my hand,
"Thank you for this information Rose; it has helped us greatly. Please feel free to reach out to my Beta Alex or me if you need anything."
Rose shook my hand back and smiled at me. "You'll be a great Alpha Damien; it doesn't matter who your Luna is."
I felt my face flush at her compliment. Rose turned to Guinevere and embraced her.
"Be safe, my dear child." She pulled away from Guinevere, tears glistening in her eyes.
"I will be," Guinevere said back to her. Rose opened the door to let us out of her home, and I thankfully didn't knock anything over this time.
"So, breaking the bond on your side should be easy for you," Guinevere said, rolling her eyes and getting into the SUV, slamming my door shut.
"What? Why would you say that?" I asked, confused about her sudden outburst.
"Because Damien," Guinevere said with a sinister smile on her face," you have Stephanie." Guinevere spat out.
Hmm... was my little mate jealous?
