Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

GUINEVERE

"Jupiter is coming? How far away is he? How long do we have to prepare for his arrival?" I asked Derek worriedly.

Derek grabbed my hand, and Damien let out an uncontrollable growl; Leo possessed the jealously of the Lion in the stars.

Derek looked to Damien, raising his eyebrows, "Really, young Alpha, Do you think now is the time for jealously? Besides the point war is coming, I am old enough to be your Lunas grandfather."

A blush crept on Damien's face as he looked down at his feet and muttered sorry. Derek turned his attention back toward me.

"Jupiter and his army of the dead will arrive by nightfall. You are not ready to face him. You must return to your pack and practice the powers bestowed upon you and Sabrina by the Goddess."

"I can't just leave you helpless. My wolf was reborn for this. I was destined for this."

I felt Sabrina stir in agreement.

"You aren't ready to face Jupiter yet," Derek stated firmly.

"Ready or not, he's coming. I can't just leave the Silent Forest pack to deal with this on their own."

"Guinevere, the Silent Forest pack, was meant to fall on this night; it's been foretold since the beginning; if you do not leave now, all of wolf kind will fall tonight."

I let out a low growl; Sabrina was angered at the thought of walking away. Damien stepped closer, snaking his hand around my waist and pulling me against him. I felt Sabrina slowly start to diffuse.

"Gwynn," he murmured in my ear. "Listen to what Derek is saying."

I turned my head towards Damien, glaring at him. "Not you too, Damien," I snarled at him, "you're supposed to be on my side; you're my mate."

I tried to jerk away from Damien when I felt a sharp pinch in my arm. My legs instantly became wobbly, and my vision started to fade.

"I'm sorry young Luna." I heard Derek whisper, "This is not your fight. The wolves of the Silent Forest pack will lose this battle tonight, but you and your wolf will win this war."

'Sabrina, what is going on?'

'We've been drugged, Guinevere, stop fighting against it. The harder you fight, the weaker we will become and the longer the effects will last. Just give into it.'

I relaxed as Sabrina instructed, and I felt my body go numb as I lost consciousness.

DAMIEN

Guinevere went limp in my arms, and Leo started panicking.

'I can't feel Sabrina. I can't sense her. What's going on.'

Leo started to fight me for control of our body. His worry for Sabrina turned into anger towards Derek. He wanted to shred him to pieces.

'Leo, stop.' I shouted at him. 'Calm the fuck down. If we harm Derek, we won't find out what he did to our mate.'

I gently laid Guinevere down on the ground before turning towards Derek; I charged him, wrapping my hands around his neck and throwing him up against the wall, extending my canines.

"What did you do to my mate?" I growl at him.

Derek's face started to go pale. "Can't breathe." He gasped out.

I loosened my grip, not wanting to kill him before I got answers.

"TELL ME ." I hissed, trying to control my temper and keep Leo back.

"Alpha," Derek said, still trying to regain his breath. "I did what needed to be done. Guinevere would not have left on her own free will. You need to take your Luna, back to your pack and prepare for Jupiter."

"That still doesn't tell me what you did to her," I shouted, slamming my other hand into the brick wall.

Derek remained calm, not once flinching. "I gave her a sedative; she will sleep for a few hours, that is it. It won't affect her any other way. The sedative will help you make your escape with her."

Upon hearing that Guinevere would be fine, Leo calmed down, retreating once again to the back of my mind. I felt my anger dissipate.

"Damien, please put me down. You need to be leaving soon, and there's something else I need to give you before you go."

I lower my arm and release my grip around Derek's neck, placing him firmly back on the ground. Derek swallows deeply and massages his neck while walking across the room. He searches through some shelves when he comes across an old faded envelope.

"This belongs to you." He said, handing the envelope to me. "Read this somewhere private when you return to your pack. It will help you restore faith in your leadership."

I looked at him confused, taking the old envelope at putting it in my pocket.

"I'm sorry, Damien, I wish I had more time to explain, but if you don't take Guinevere and get out of here now, you won't make it out on time, and life as we know it will be doomed."

I walked back over to Guinevere's body. She was lying there so peacefully. I gently picked her back up in my arms and walked out to the SUV. I placed her in the passenger seat, buckling her in and reclining the seat.

After I was done, I looked back at Elder Derek. "I would say it was a pleasure meeting you, but that would be a lie."

Derek chuckled.

"The pleasure is all mine, Alpha Derek. To have lived and met the woman who carries the spirit of the great moon goddess' daughter brings my life meaning and purpose. I will die proudly tonight, knowing that I had a part in saving our kind from extinction."

I grimaced at his words and turned my back to him, getting into the car and driving away. It wasn't like me to run from a war, but I wouldn't risk my mate's safety. Guinevere might not know it yet, but I can already hear the faint heartbeat of our growing pup.
