Chapter 26 - The Disease (2)

Truly, the porridge had proved to be effective with Alvaro and Deviro's conditions. The seizures had ceased. She took the metal basin and dipped the dry clothes into the lukewarm water. She then folded it into three-fourths and placed it on the top of their heads. "The slightly warmed water would help absorb the exceedingly high temperature of the body." She explained to the observing fayes.

She demonstrated to the ogling crowd how she would simultaneously take the dry clothes and dip them into the water again, drain them a bit, and place them on the top of their foreheads. She explained to them to repeat the steps every time the fabric got dry on their foreheads.

Much to her delight, Alvaro and Deviro's conditions stabilized after a minute. They left the room immediately and went back to the great hall to proceed with their meeting.

She requested Balto to exclude her from the gathering as she needed to go somewhere else. When the old faye agreed, she excused herself respectfully from the group.

She took off the white robe, leaving her only with the linen undergarment that some of the fayes had lent her. She prodded at the entrance door and pulled the knob open.

The strong gust of wind had nearly knocked off Gala if she hadn't clung to the door. The hissing rain plunked onto the frozen ground of the town. She stretched her hand towards the drizzle. The downpour from the roof flowed into her small, delicate hands, then trailed into her arms.

She drew her arms back and stretched her legs out into the drizzle. The memories of her childhood brought a huge grin on her face. She sniffed into the air, tears forming in the corner of her eyes with the sudden surge of nostalgia she felt.

Feeling homesick, she let the memories she had with her brother, Avin, replay in her mind. They would play in the open yard in front of their house as they happily glided on the grass floor, soaking in the rain.

Most of her unforgettable childhood memories that she shared with her family happened in that particular weather. Her mother would often serve them with hot chocolates with marshmallows on top while they snuggled together under a thick quilt, watching the soft drizzle outside their window.

Overwhelmingly, in rapt attention to the successive memoirs flooding into her, she had finally let go of her consciousness and allowed the downpour to completely drench her.

She stretched her arms on the side and twirled around happily, her genuine laugh resonating throughout the village.

The fayes inside their houses, along with Balto, the healer fayes, and the servant fayes, peered through their windows, finding the guileless whisperer, twirling out in the open rain, seemingly wrapped in her own world.

The fayes, who we're not informed, expressed their disagreement towards her behavior, referring to it as rash.

Lost in a trance, with the veracity of her emotions and the profundity of her desire, she had unknowingly let her soul get entwined with the quintessence of the rain's energy.

She found herself floating inside a raindrop, the soft ripples on the surface astounding her exceedingly.

"You know what you must do, khäremluash. Allow the gift of töbigo to come to you naturally. Don't hold yourself back from making the best use of the dormant gifts repressed deep inside you."

A rather dull, toneless voice spoke to Gala. It was another cryptic message from a being of Aelfrey. Oh, how she wishes they would stop speaking with these confusing messages and just straight up tell her the truth about her true role in Aelfrey.

Before she could utter a question, the rain's soul disconnected itself from the thread she had unknowingly made with it.

She recited the rain's message silently to herself; the downpour, the cold, and the heaviness of her drenched clothes were no longer her priority at that time.

Her brows furrowed together in a line, unable to deduce any essential clues from the message.

'It mentioned töbigo as a gift and letting it flow to me naturally.' She thought deeply.

For crying out loud, what is a töbigo? She recited the words again.

töbigo..

flow..

naturally..

She chanted those three specific words repeatedly. These words particularly pull her in. She whispered these words for the last time.

As if a speck of light appeared in front of her eyes, the realization dawned on her. Töbigo was actually a gift of water! Water's distinct characteristic was to flow naturally.

She flashed a proud smile to herself, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared on her face.

'Was it really talking to me? Do I have the gift of water?' She thought dubiously.

She musingly touched her forehead; the symbol of the fire element had vanished right away after Alvaro told her about it during that night in the palace. She absorbed the wildfire that night; maybe she could as well with the rain.

She closed her eyes, focusing on the drizzling sound of the rain first, then on the hoarse whisper of the wind. She visualized her pumping heart and the mild thumping of her heartbeat. The soft gush of the blood going in and out of her created a soft, mellow music to her ears.

The piece of her soul had finally detached from her physical form. She hovered above the village and could see the weakened souls of those who were sick. She found Alvaro's and Deviro's souls. They were not yet that weakened, but the small grey spots on theirs suggested that a minor part of their souls were affected.

Discerning what she must do, her soul returned to her body. She stretched her arms on the side. A gush of water broke out from the tips of her fingers. A huge ripple of water formed below her feet, then slowly encircled her until it completely engulfed her body.

Aeyalafreyn phrases came out of her mouth naturally, like they were there in the first place. "I beseech thee, tobigo."

A huge crest of current formed above her head. The pearly raindrops stopped midway like they were crusted jewels hanging. She then raised her arms and just like what happened with the wildfire, she absorbed the rain and the poisoned drops of rain inside the infected fayes to her body.

All the fayes who had witnessed it gasped aloud! Balto could not believe his eyes when he saw the blue symbol of the water element glistening on their whispherer's forehead.
