In the early days of Aelfrey, Dylareia bestowed the first fayes settled in the land with at least two gifts of elemantal powers. These gifts aided them in cultivating the land and building the civilization that still thrives today.
For about a hundred years, the fayes have coexisted peacefully. The barrenness of the land was quickly transformed into a vast canvas of greens and blues as everyone eagerly furnished the land with the abilities bestowed upon them by their sacred-faye. The mountains and hills were lined with various trees, and the rich springs scattered throughout the land provided the fayes with clean water to drink. Water from the lakes and rivers along the mountainous area supplies the rice paddies snaking around the southern region's mountains with an adequate supply of water to grow crops. And one of the primary sources of their food was from the two large seas in the northern region, which were teeming with creatures.
In the midst of abundance, the fayes had decided to establish the first monarch of the land, who sought to lead the fayes and protect their sanctuary given by Dylareia. The first king's and queen's presence was to keep the balance of power under control and stipulate restrictions to the usage of their gifts. Fayes must only use their gifts for the merit of the land; honing their abilities in the dark will be automatically considered a deterrent against Aelfrey's sacred laws.
After two years that the monarch was established, there was no single account of any problem that arose in the kingdom. They maintained their exuberance, prosperity, and contentment. They all happily abided by the laws, except for a particular inquisitive and tenacious faye. He believed that the kingdom was oppressive with the restrictions set regarding their gifts, and it wasn't aligned with what Dylareia wanted for them. He even asserted that the fayes should expand their sovereignity to the other dimensions and make Aelfrey their imperium against the other dimensions.
Fernis, in defiance of the kingdom's laws, secretly honed his abilities and persuaded some other fayes to adopt his own beliefs. He was able to gather at least five thousand fayes and establish the first coup d'etat. This all happened right under their noses.
However, Fernis and his allies were still defeated in the end. The king and queen, whose kindness and mercy transcended their laws, forgave Fernis and persuaded him to stop the revolution that he started against the kingdom, but the faye was stubborn and repudiated their decrees. Despite all of that, the king and queen did not hold him in captivity. They instead mandated their armies for him and his allies to be vanquished out of Aelfrey. They had never heard of Fernis ever again. After that incident, Dylareia specifically chose one lineage from the fayes to bear the responsibility of the land's whisperer.
When the first whisperer bloomed, Dylareia's first message to the fayes was her verdict that no one in the next generations to come will be able to wield more than one gift, seeing how too much power easily corrupts the mind of the fayes.
--
'Why does it have to be me? Why did Dylareia choose me to be Aelfrey's whisperer? Why didn't she choose another faye to be the next whisperer?' She muttered to herself.
Alvaro and Elderifrey, who happened to hear her musings, went to her to help her shed some light on her questions that she failed to find answers to.
After they came back from Melte, Alvaro advised her to talk to Elderifrey about her new abilities. The young warrior said that what happened in Melte must be regarded with discretion, as being able to wield more than one element is taboo. Although Elderifrey strongly claimed that their laws did not concern her since she was not of their kind, much to her relief as she was tired of being questioned from time to time.
Just like what happened to the symbol of the fire element, the water element's symbol vanished from her forehead merely seconds after absorbing the rain and the disease that assaulted the villagers. It was only Balto who had seen the symbol and confided to Alvaro what he had witnessed.
She still wonders what was so special about her that Dylareia chose her. Did the sacred-faye choose her when she accidentally entered the barrier to Aelfrey? Or was she chosen even before she was born?
She slacked back into her chair after her head ached with so many questions going through her mind right now.
She rose from her seat and peered out the window. She was secretly amazed to see the palace back in its glory even after being on a mission for one week. The fayes' resilience had exceedingly impressed her. Without realizing it, she had eventually fallen for this frozen land and its people. She was just compelled at first when she was proclaimed as their whisperer, and of course, with her thirst for adventure, but on that midnight when she was talking to that mysterious voice, her eyes were opened to the understanding that she cared for the fayes and Aelfrey.
"What if the key to ending the frost was for Gala to wield all the gifts from the elements?" Alvaro asked out-of-the-blue.
Elderifrey and I turned our heads to the young warrior. She remained silent and let the elder faye discern Alvaro's statement.
"It is possible. I admit that we can't rule out that possibility, although it scares me if that's the truth." The elder faye replied with a hint of concern in her voice.
She furrowed her brows. "Why? I thought you were confident that your laws were not applicable to me?"
The elder faye answered, blinking into space. "You have no idea of the possible dangers and threats to your life, Gala, even now that two elemental powers have been bestowed on you."
"What threats are you referring to, Elderifrey?" Alvaro queried.
I seconded Alvaro's question. The elder faye shifted to her seat and heaved a heavy sigh as if she was about to reveal some huge news.
"It's about time that I tell you what happened to the last whisperer of Aelfrey."
