Chapter 45 - Ethan and the elite

I was looking for this opportunity. Even my bones are getting sore," Ethan said.

Sometime later, a green uniformed referee barges in. The referee briefed them on the rules of the match again.

The referee made it their top priority to always brief students before any fight.

"Hope we're clear on that," the referee said, and with no objection from any of them, the referee gave the green light.

Ethan unbuttoned his uniform top and threw it over to Noah, who watched from the side with Layla.

His opponent twisted his body into inhuman shapes. The student twisted his head to the back, as if he'd no bone there, and then twisted his head back to the front again.

Ethan already deduced from the way the student twisted himself that he had the ability to stretch.

Ethan hadn't attacked yet. He wanted his opponent to stretch his boneless body out before making any move.

--

"Do you think your friend can pull it off?" Layla asked, her eyes focused on Ethan and the elite student.

" Pull what?" Noah smiled. "This is just like a walk in the park for him."

"I expected nothing less. That is why I like him. "

"You what?"

"Nothing. Look, the fight has started,"  Layla quickly said.

The elite student extended his hands outward, and they increased in length to grab Ethan.

Ethan hit the hand, but his hands bounced off as if he'd just punched a rubber.

Ethan used that punch to gauge if his opponent literally bounced. His punch just confirmed it.

He bolted toward the elite student, his legs covered with flame, and kicked out a sea of fire from his leg.

The elite student stretched his torso to the side, making the sea of flame graze his rubber skin.

Ethan leaped in the air and 2 flame knives materialized in his hands before he aimed all of them on the elite student.

As the knives got closer, in mid-air, they changed to four.

The elite student stretched himself in a zigzag pattern. A surprised expression crossed his face.

He had never seen the flame ability used like this, but he knew better than to be surprised. His opponent looked fine, but he nearly got burned.

He gritted his teeth, stretched himself like a snake, and darted from side to side, evading all the knives thrown at him.

All the while, several thoughts went through his head. His opponent, clearly, was a tough one, but he believed he was better. After all, he wore the white uniform. That means something, right?

After some seconds, he completely dogged all the knives. He felt exhausted and panted heavily, but the fight just got more intense.

"He is fast," Ethan noted. "But not that fast." Ethan stretched his hands outward, and flames swirled out of his hands before they took the shape of a bow.

He pointed the bow at the elite student.

"You might want to give up?" Ethan pulled the flamy string.

"You don't have any arrows." The student smirked, but he just realized his mistake.

"Oh." Ethan smiled back. He pulled the string and fired a shot, and in mid-air, a flaming arrow materialized.

The student widened his eyes, but the arrow had already hit his shoulder.

"Agrhhhhh"  he held his shoulders. He pulled the arrow out, and blood gushed out.

"Just who are you? Who are you?" the student screamed at the top of his lungs.

He had never seen anyone use the flame ability like this. I mean, how on earth can someone turn flame into a bow, and to top it off, he fired an arrow?

It felt like a frigging cultivation technique from one of those novels.

But the student knew he caused all of this. His opponent made flamy knives, and yet he underestimated his opponents.

A person who defeated even Kai, and he, just a lackey, thought he could take on this person head-on.

"Now you see what I can do," Ethan said aloud, his dragon pride kicking in. "I'll give you one more chance. Submit or perish? "

"I would take the latter." The student jumped up and pounced on Ethan.

Ethan heaved a sigh. He hadn't planned for this. Before, he fired two arrows at once.

The arrow hit the target's left shoulder and pinned him to the wall.

The elite student tried pulling out the arrow, trying to free himself, but soon, another arrow pinned his right shoulder, and he was pinned to the wall with his hands wide open.

"Still not giving up?" Ethan aimed the arrow at the student again.

"Never!!"

"Remember, I gave you a chance." Ethan pulled the string.

The string expanded until it reached Ethan's eye level. "You caused it."

"Wait!" The student's chest heaved up and down. " I submit."

"Good." The bow dispersed from Ethan's hands.

--

Inside the large meeting room in the academy, a man with a deep scar on his left cheek sat on a leather seat, watching the replay of Ethan. His name was Commander Xavier, the highest authority in the academy.

After a while, he shifted his gaze to the other people sitting around the round table.

"You've seen what he can do for yourself, right? Now tell me, why shouldn't we cultivate this talent? " Commander Xavier said.

For a moment, no one made a single sound.

"Sir." A man with an unkempt beard said, "He is wasting his talent by sticking around with the black-uniformed student."

"Any idea?" Commander Xavier leaned forward with a look of anticipation.

The man, cleaning the invisible dirt on his uniform, stood upright and said, in a serious tone, "Sir, we should make him an elite student. We have seen for ourselves how effective his flame is. I mean, I am a flame user. " He paused.

"But I have never seen anyone use the flame like that."

Everybody in the hall had the same thoughts, and they all planned to conduct a personal investigation into him.

His file only states that he came from an orphanage, nothing else. How did he gain his ability? How did he master it? No one knew. But they have just made it their goal to unlock all these answers.

"So is it decided?" Commander Xavier looked around.

They all whispered something in between themselves before they looked at commander Xavier again.

"Let's make him an elite."
