A creaking crack echoed as the robots moved their limbs as if they were getting used to it.
Ethan's face darkened at the sight of the student the trainer had grouped him with.
"He grouped me with these pricks that hate me like hell," Ethan mumbled to himself.
"Hey, we don't want slackers on our team. If you want to zone out, the doors are that way, "a student who seemed to be the self-proclaimed leader of the team said.
Ethan didn't answer. He walked to their side and stood by their side.
The students looked like ants compared to the robots, which looked like colossal giants.
" How are we supposed to take down this thing?" A student said aloud, but he quickly covered his mouth with his hands.
No asking of questions. He just broke that rule.
"I'll let this one slide." The trainer pierced the student with his sharp marrow gaze.
The student looked relieved, but the same couldn't be said for the wet spot in his pants.
1000 sit-ups and push-ups. He didn't want to do that.
"You have 30 minutes to take down the robots," the trainer said.
The robot's eye glowed red, as if building up power, and it stared down at the students.
The robot fired a laser shot at the student.
The students bolt out of the way. The laser shot hit the spot where they stood before, and the land turned black and a huge crater appeared
The robot swung its hands out, and Ethan and his group flew out of the way again.
Ethan looked to the side and saw how the other students were faring.
In particular, in a particular group, a student used lighting ability.
The student sent out several lightning bolts that seemed to be whirling around his hands, similar to the way Ethan's flames whirled.
Ethan hit his head and focused back on his current problem.
"I'll deal the damage. You guys cover for me," the self-proclaimed leader said again.
He flicked his shoulder, which showed the No. 8 ability level.
The other students got the message, and they all acted fast.
"Hey, over here," one of them said, and started running off.
The robot turned its gaze to the student and started chasing it.
When the robot got closer to the student, the leader leaped up and punched its eye. The robot didn't budge even a bit. Instead, he stretched his arms out and gave the student a backhand slap.
The leader flew further into the distance, out of sight.
The remaining students all attacked at once, but the robot used his hands to slap all of them out of sight.
After slapping the student into oblivion, the robot turned his gaze to the remaining student, Ethan.
Ethan gulped a mouthful of saliva .
The robot just slapped all his teammates into oblivion. leaving him all alone.
The robot didn't look for long and fired a laser beam at Ethan. He jumped to the side.
The robot continuously fired beam after beam. Ethan dashed in a zigzag pattern, but all the laser beams still hit him.
Ethan gritted his teeth as intense pain riddled his entire body anytime the lasers passed through it.
Ethan had seen how the robot slapped the other student into the barren land. He knew he couldn't face the robot head, so he decided to fight from a long range.
Ethan raised his hands and shot several fireballs at the robot. The bullets riddled the metal bodies of the robots, making several holes appear in them.
Ethan smirked, but his face darkened the next moment. All the holes on the robot's body started to close in an instant.
"What! The robot can repair itself," Ethan wondered aloud. "I'm doomed."
"how I'm I suppose to take this thing down?" Ethan contemplated.
Ethan didn't know if his ears were deceiving him, but he heard the robot laughing at him.
"It's being controlled," Ethan noted.
He fired more shots again. All the shots hit the robot, and the same thing happened again.
The robot dashed at Ethan and grabbed him. The robot brought Ethan close to its face, and a laser beam built up in its eyes again.
"I knew this big guy was tough." Ethan tried wiggling his body, trying to free himself from the robot's grip.
The robot fired the beam out of his eyes again, but a lightning beam hit the robot, making it face the other side.
The robot freed Ethan, and Ethan spun himself in mid-air and kicked the robot in the face.
Ethan landed on the ground. He looked at the place where the lighting came from. The lighting user had his back facing Ethan while fighting the robots with his teammates.
Ethan came out of his trance when he saw the robot foot coming down on him to squash him. He pushed himself out of the way.
He climbed the robot's leg like a monkey, and then leapt up and stood in between the robot's neck. He made a sharp flame sword in both hands and stabbed the robot in the head continuously. But each time he thrust his sword, the robot repaired itself almost instantly.
Sweat trickled down his head. His previously clean and smooth hair now had brown dirt all over it.
The robot made a vroom sound as his chest crumbled into pieces, revealing a shiny red crystal.
"Not good, not good."
The crystal glowed strongly.
beep* beep
The crystal died down as the 30-minute timer beeped.
Ethan jumped off and fell flat on the ground with his hands wide open. His chest heaved up and down as he tried to catch his breath.
From the sides of his eyes, he saw his teammates showing up one by one.
Sometime later, the trainer gathered them again.
"You all did well today. I'm very proud of that. But some of you disappointed me greatly." The trainer stared at Ethan's teammates.
They avoided his gaze and stared away.
After some time, the place became empty as all the students left the land, leaving only the trainer alone.
He brought out a remote and punched a button. The land started to wrap up and distort, and the next moment, the desert changed into the academy's familiar meeting room.
All the academy instructors, referees, and trainers sat around the round table.
Commander Xavier tapped the desk and said, "Gentlemen, can we start the evaluation?"
