Chapter 16 - Assessment

The test soon started. all The students were quite nervous as this was their first assessment.

This statement was true for only a few because there were students who looked confident.

A few seconds later, they could see multiple plain-looking robots, which were shaped like a ball with only arms and a red eye in the middle.

Soon, all the bots assembled behind the instructor like he was their commander.

Ethan stared at the machines, examining them if he could find any weak points. But alas, he couldn't find anything. The robot looked flawless, with no bolts or screws attached to it.

Currently, Ethan, Ileus, and Noah were standing under a tree branch, further away from the crowd, but it didn't seem far away either. The trio seemed to have bonded together quite quickly. Perhaps it's because they share the same dorm room, nobody can tell. But if a stranger sees them like this, they will probably think the trio have been close pals for a long time. They were one of the least nervous groups in the field.

The instructor walked with his hands behind his back, a posture he often adopted.

"Ok folks, your first test is to take out these flying bots," the instructor announced.

"There will be a timer to calculate your survival rate. Then, your survival rate will be graded based on the time you spent taking out or surviving the robot's assault. you have 2o minute's to take out the robots. "

After the instructor's explanation, students started taking the test, one after another.

Each participant was told to take out ten robots as fast as they could.

Most of them charged forward, attacking the bots.

The robots, which had only arms, didn't fall back either as they attacked too, using mainly their arms.

At first, the students thought it would be easy since the robots had only arms, but to their dismay, the machines were also programmed for combat.

They all tried to defend themselves and even went for a hit at times.

However, despite all their efforts, they didn't finish before the given minutes.

but some strong ones took out as many

robots as they could, yet they mostly finished when it was close to 20 minutes.

The bots didn't hold back either, as they made attacks like shooting lasers from the red dot, which seemed to be its eyes.

At first glance, most of the students thought that the Red Eye was just for design, but now they have seen what it is capable of.

Luckily for them, the lasers didn't hurt much; they only made a hot sting on their skin.

Since it wasn't his turn yet, Ethan studied the robots from a distance.

After a few more participants, the instructor called out a student named Blocky. Blocky was short, bulky, and had rough skin.

He walked with confidence and had an arrogant gaze. The thing that stood out about him most was his square face, which was shaped like a block with small features.

Looking at him now raises the question: did his parents know about his face shape before they named him blocky? Or was it a coincidence? I mean, just look at his face. It was shaped like a block.

The test soon started, and Blocky rushed toward the nearest robot. When he got closer, he quickly hit the first robots in the middle. When the punch connected, the robot fell, and after a few electric sparks, it stopped moving.

Blocky twisted his neck to the side, pleased with himself. He then charged in again at the remaining robots.

However, before he could take a step, all the remaining bots rushed at him.

Seeing the sudden attack, he stepped back. However, he was unfazed. He proceeded and made two mental spikes, thrusting them towards the robots. The spikes stabbed two incoming robots, and they fell to the ground.

He managed to take out all the robots using his metal ability, which was quite polished.

His overall time spent was 3 minutes. So far, he is the one with the highest score.

Blocky acted even more arrogant after seeing his score.

" Ileus, you're next." Ileus rushed to the front after hearing his name.

He mainly made use of combat and high-flying moves. He seemed to be pretty experienced in combat.

After some time, all 10 robots were now on the floor, with only a screeching sound and blue electric sparks.

He finished all the robots in 2 minutes and some seconds.

After finishing his test, he came back to the spot where he was before. "Hey, What is your ability?" Ethan asked. He knew there was a chance that the latter might not tell him. But still, he asked. When the latter was fighting, he fought as if he could predict when the robots would attack.

After thinking for a moment, he decided to tell him, "I could see 4 seconds into the future," he said, though he omitted the fact that he could see 5 seconds into the future. Still, it wasn't far from the truth.

"Oh," Ethan said in realization, "so that's how you were able to predict my moves when we fought last time."

Ileus just smiled, hearing him.

Somewhere not too far away from where Ethan, Ileus, and Noah were. Blocky glared at Ileus with killing intent.

He initially thought his score would be the highest among all the students here, but Ileus surpassed him, which left him infuriated. Furthermore, he was contemplating how he would explain to his father that he came second.

He didn't take any of the other students into consideration. For him, there was only one competitor, and that was ileus. Unknown to him, there was even a more dangerous opponent who had yet to participate.

" So you cheated? "Ethan frowned.

"You did similarly, in a way. You also dug your claws into my shoulder, remember? " Ileus said, looking at Ethan, who was now in deep thought.

An ability that can enable you to predict what your opponent will do in the next 4 seconds. "

What an overpowered ability ." Ethan couldn't help but mumble.

Ileus looked at Ethan and said, "the only way I can-" he stopped when he noticed that he was about to spill the secret that he can't predict feints. What if the latter becomes an enemy in the future? Although he could see 5 seconds into the future. still, he couldn't predict tomorrow, so he decided to play safe for now.

"What way?" Ethan asked.

"Nah, it's nothing important," Ileus answered.

Ethan knew he was about to say something about his ability, but he guessed the latter had not trusted him yet.

Honestly, if it was him, he wouldn't reveal all his cards to a person he meant, not too long ago, so he didn't blame him because it is something almost every intelligent person will do.

Noah just stared at them, listing to their conversation. He didn't have anything to say, so he just listened.

"Noah Gate, you're next," the instructor's voice resounded.

"Which me luck, guys," he said, touching Ileus and Ethan before running off.

Ethan watched closely, he wanted to see what a level 7 ability user could do.
