"Pack the bags Emily, we are getting late" Tom shouted as he paced in the living room. Emily shouted out some incoherent words as she packed the bags hurriedly as she couldn't even control her excitement. Her heels clicked as she came to the living room with two bags in her hand. "I am sorry, I just couldn't decide what to take and what not" she mumbled. This was indeed unusual of Tom to take her somewhere in a vacation. Her and Tom's fathers were best of friends since the childhood and it was her father's last wish to get both of them married before death. So to make his best friend's last wish come true Tom's father decided to get both of them engaged. This had happened 14 months ago. Since then they have started dating as Tom wanted to 'get to know her better'. Emily fell in love with him in these months but Tom was never really happy with this arrangement. So him taking on her to a vacation is really abnormal. But still ignoring all of this she headed towards their car as they drove away to the railway station.
On reaching they hurriedly got into the train as the train had already arrived the station. A few minutes later the train started moving as she looked out of the window. Tom's reflection fell on the glass as she noticed her smiling. Most importantly that smile was not the smile that lightened your heart but something that makes you chest feel heavy. And it did. She frowned and looked at him only for the smile to fade away as he raised an eyebrow at her which gave off a 'what are you looking at' look. She simply shaked her head and smiled as she moved her face towards the window not realising when she dozed off. Her eyes opened feeling a light shake in her shoulder. She looked up to see Tom with his brows creased as he looked down on her. "Why do you have to sleep like a pig.. I have been calling you since I don't know when, we have arrived btw". "Ohh" Emily replied quietly as she got her bags and got down the train. The chill air outside instantly made her wrap her hands around herself as she followed Tom to the exit of the station. They didn't have to wait as their car was waiting for them outside the station. The car took a start as they got in and closed the doors. On reaching their ensuite hotel room Emily looked at the panoramic view from the large glass window which made her heart swell with happiness.. "Wow".... She simply said as she couldn't take her eyes off the cliff far away. There was something about it that was pulling her towards it and she could put a finger to it. Her heart felt light and heavy at the same time. Her thoughts were cut off with Tom coming out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe. He pointed his finger towards the bathroom indicated her to freshen up as he was done. She nodded and took her towel and clothes and headed towards the bathroom. The sound of door locking echoed through the room as Tom walked up to the same spot Emily was at and looked at the cliff intently as he chuckled darkly.
The next day they went down the hotel to get breakfast as Tom said something about them having plans to visit different tourist places around the valley. Also that there's a small town down the hill, small and beautiful and very peaceful. So as planned they went out to visit the places after they had their breakfast. As they went down the valley to reach the town Emily suggested "why don't we go to the cliff first" "The best for the last" he replied shortly as they smiled secretly to themselves but for different reasons. So as planned they spent their whole day buying souvenirs and showpieces around the town as the sunset came close and the full moon was knocking the door of the sky. "I think we should get home, it's getting dark" Tom said impatiently. "Yeah sure" Emily replied. So after buying a few more things they again started heading back to the valley to reach the hotel. As they were almost on the top Tom suddenly asked "What is your vision about life?" "Love and relationships. I think family plays a really important role in your life. It is where you grow up, learn values, and become a much mature and experienced person in your life. True friends too are an inevitable part of our life I think. They stand by us in our hardest of times and takes a way out to cheer us up, though I never had the luck of having one" she quickly replied. Tom begrudgingly smiled mimicking her silently but nevertheless said "Don't you want to visit the cliff, we can come back before it's dark". "Ohh yeah sure" She felt happy that he had remembered the promise. As they reached the cliff Tom suddenly said "Emily I am sorry. I know you must be thinking why suddenly I brought you in a hill station. But to be honest this isn't just a trip but also a chance for me to ask for a second chance. I know I didn't do something very forgiving so asking for it is lame. But I am really sorry for what I did. Please give me a second chance... Will you?" Silence echoed through the walls of the hills as Tom waited for her answer "Yes yes yes" her whispers got louder as she ran and hugged him. They both started laughing as he whirled her around. But suddenly his hand went loose as she flew across the cliff and fell down the hill. Her eyes went wide as her tears screamed betrayal. Tom looked down the cliff as he made eye contact with her, chuckling as he mouthed to her "stupid girl, dug her own grave" as he shaked his head and headed back.
