Chapter 4 - No one would ever even find you

Diviya explains her life to Agent Ward and how she came to be adopted. She also went on to explain why she even left the house to begin with….. "She cannot try to sugar coat things when I am staring her in the face, because I will see right through it. So that's why I left the house that day, any normal day at that time I would have been home." She pause and takes in another shaky breath as she shook her head.

"It's just my patience and I really needed to know if I was getting the part time job. I needed this because this is a crucial part of a study I am doing for my thesis and if I do well it will be a tremendous impact on my credits. So you can see my anxiety was through the roof and judging from what you are now saying is that my anxiety is what saved my life today?"

"Fortunately it was, we believed they wanted you for something, which means they would not have killed you right away, but after they got what they wanted or realized they have no more use for you, no one would ever even find you."

Diviya's body shudders as a chilling feeling flood her system while she absorbs that bit of information and says solemnly "that does not do much to comfort me."

"Ms. Mason it is not my intention to comfort you with my honesty I intend for you to grasp the truth of your situation and for you to take the necessary steps to stay safe. Do you have anyone you can contact?"

Diviya was at a lost again, she didn't have anywhere to go and no family. It was just her and her parents. No extended family. She bows her head and whispers not having strength to throw behind her voice. "No, I don't" almost cracking at the end.

Agent Ward sympathizes with her as he thought for a moment. There was only one place he knew now in which she will be safe without a doubt, the hard part is always breaking the news to them.

It quickly goes from a safety haven for them to a death sentence once they hear the details. But Agent Ward had no choice because Diviya had no choice.

Agent Ward knew the dire situation Diviya was facing. Some really dangerous people were after her and they will stop at nothing to get to her, even killing an innocent old couple.

She needed to stay safe and this is her only option. His hands were tied, he knew better than anyone she would not be safe in their protective custody, she was good as dead. He gathers himself and gets ready to fill her in on her option.

Leaning forward he grasps Diviya's hands in his then he looks at her sympathizing with her and reassuring her at the same time. "Ms. Mason, I believe I may know just the right people that can help you" he pause letting that sink in.

"Now these are no ordinary people and given the entity you are up against they are your only option." Another pause, he looks at her searching her maybe for a reaction but she was still and calm listening intently like her life depended on it.

Which for Diviya, it literally was because she had no one.

"And by no ordinary people I mean the 'the different kind'". He pauses again to let that sink in.

Diviya gasps but it was a gasps of surprise and curiosity, which made Agent Ward look at her a bit confuse, but then he quickly regains himself as he realize this may be easier than he thought.

Of course Diviya knew of 'the different kind' everyone does, everyone had history in school at some point. Where they learned that humans are not the only species that inhabited the earth, we also have amongst us, werewolves, witches, warlocks, vampire, shifters, elves to name a few. They revealed themselves to the world over two hundred years ago. They came out and lived amongst us, worked with us...

But it didn't last, over the last fifty years they have retreated into their own world hardly mixing with the humans, only if absolutely needed. They don't harm any humans. And really and truly no one on the outside knew what was truly going on in the inside of their world.

In fact this intrigued Diviya in so many ways plus this is actually bigger than her thesis, to shadow that boss. Now she would be exposed to a whole new world and be on the inside. She is almost too elated to be going into the unknown.

Also it dawns on Diviya that she may even be able to learn about herself and she finally grasps that she will be able to explore her abilities and let her natural beauty shine through. Simultaneously admitting and maybe trying to finally accept that she was indeed different.

However that little moment quickly ended as soon as she was back to reality and remembers all too soon the reason she will be going there in the first place.

And just like that Diviya was back to being overcome with grief as she listens to the detective tell her about her lifeline.

"Now you must have heard stories of the 'Demon Alpha'? Haven't you? Agent Ward asks Diviya.

Diviya looks at the Agent and nods, also for some strange reason the mention of him stirs something primal in her.

"Ok, well his territory is where you will be going. It is his protection you will be under and it's what will keep you safe. We use him from time to time to keep star witnesses in high profile cases protected also. No one would dare defy him and the humans can't get near him."

He looks Diviya in the eye as he continues "which is why I am sure you will be safe there, may even be able to start a life there and I know they will take good care of you."

Diviya didn't know how she would begin to do that. She didn't know about starting a life, how will she even begin to do that with only a little over three thousand in her bank account. Saving's from her side job.

But then in the next instance, she felt it. A wave of courage hits her and Diviya felt like pulling herself together and so she did. It was strange to her but she went with it. She has a little over three thousand in her account and that can go a long way. Then maybe she can get hooked up with a job.

And maybe just maybe she may get to the bottom of who is after her and find out more about herself. It was a long shot.

"Ok, I literally don't have a choice if I want to survive. So let's do it." Diviya told Agent Ward.

He replies, "sure, you wait right here, I am going to make some calls. Don't leave this room."

And with that he slipped out of the room.

Diviya sat in this quiet holding room and looked around at the sad walls that stared right back at her. She thought about her situation and where she was heading. She honestly felt relieved to even have an option. This would do, she is not picky, her life is at stake and she did not want her parent's death to be in vain.

They stayed true to her till the very end because no one came looking for her at the cafe she thought. So she is sure as hell going to take the steps necessary to stay safe.

Time just ticks away and Diviya wanted to see her parents and she has high hopes she can see them soon. Diviya made a mental note to ask Agent award when he gets back.

"All set" Agent Ward says as he waltz into the room closing the door shut behind him after doing his checks of the corridor.

Diviya looks at him with a questioning eye, in which he replies, "I have made contact with my guy over in the Demon Alpha's territory who handles these hand offs and he said arrangements will be made for first thing in the morning." Agent Ward pauses for a moment as he let Diviya absorb that bit of information.

She nods looking at him then she ask "and tonight?" She was concerned, worried and slightly afraid.

He sighs, "we have to try our best to keep you safe throughout tonight, I am not going to lie to you it is not going to be easy. But I got some ideas of what we can do and I already set some things in motion. The first decoy already left and the others will follow suit when it's their turn to leave."

Diviya's eyes widen, she knew of how dire the situation was but hearing about the actual use of decoys tonight to aid in her defense further pointed Diviya to the real depths of her situation. And again she is reminded that she is in real danger, she straightens up as she continues to listens to Agent Ward intently.
