Haley was moving into her new apartment in the upper district by the end of the week. Alpha Lucarus called them the employee apartments but that doesn’t change that they’re nice. It was actually upsetting how nice they were.
Even though they were staff apartments they costed three times as much as an apartment in the lower district did, and they were the same size. Bedroom, small kitchenette with a living room, and a full bath.
Her parents had been against her moving, but they did give in, eventually. While Peace, her sister, bemoaned not being able to see her new place.
Her new phone buzzed, a text from B.B. lighting up the screen, standing for Boss Bret. It was the newest model and it had taken all of her skills as an actor to not cry at the exuberant price when she bought it, but she needed it to fit in.
Now, living only a couple blocks away from the Parker manor, she could take on more hours, more jobs, and really start to tear apart the gossip going around and see what was going on.
A large majority of the people in the Parker pack were…nice. Too nice for what was going on in their city and while Alpha Lucarus seemed impartial to the people of the lower district that was far better than the outright distaste the other packs seemed to have.
Haley needed more info but…and it was more gut instinct than anything, whoever was behind the suffering of the lower districts wasn’t the Parker pack heads. Though—she’d like to bring something more substantial to Bret than a gut feeling so snooping around it was.
She was heading in for her shift for lunch when she’s stopped by someone. A very well known someone and Haley knew she was working at the Parker manor but come on! What was it with her running into the heads and the heirs?
Raphael Parker was a few years older than her and had a presence like no other, partially because he was almost always a part of the weekend news with whatever escapade he was doing.
A bit of a wild child he was at least decent—at least, the worst he’d ever done was drunkenly trash a bar but even then, he paid for all the repairs and then some.
“Master Raphael,” she greeted.
“Ah, Heather, just the girl I was looking for.”
Well, that wasn’t ominous or worrying at all.
“Were you? Apologies, I didn’t know there was something planned.”
“Haha! No, I’m here about a more personal matter.”
“Is that so?” she hummed, waiting for him to continue. She couldn’t even begin to guess what he had sought her out for.
As far as she knew, Heather was a flirt but was good at her job and kind to the other co-workers. The only one who disliked her was Luna Daniella, but she didn’t think she irritated the woman enough that she’d complain to her son.
“I heard you like to have a good time, I’m here to offer one.”
Now, more than ever, Haley was regretting that she made Heather Parker a flirt, because she herself sure as hell wasn’t one.
“Elaborate, are you talking a party or…” she let it hang, hoping he’d answer, and he did.
“A more private one. What do you say?”
Ah, he wanted to have sex, and no doubt he’d heard about what a fun person Heather was, her personality not helping one bit.
There was a problem though, one big, glaring problem that had nothing to do with her mission or anything else but her personal thoughts on the matter at hand.
Everyone knew that Raphael Parker had a GIRLFRIEND. And he was asking her to help him cheat on her.
“As ‘fun’ as that sounds,” she sneered, p*ssed beyond all measure as this god d*mn son of a b*tch reminded her of her f*cking B*TCH of an ex. “Maybe you should go buy a wh*re in the lower districts instead of trying to turn me into a home wrecker!”
Haley, barely managed to keep herself from shouting, but it was a very near thing and her own reaction was enough to startle Raphael into leaning back in surprise.
“I—sorry. I heard you were interested, and I assumed…”
“Interested? Oh, certainly, but in helping you f*ck up your relationship? Hell no. Just because I like having some fun doesn’t mean I’m gonna let someone use me to start up drama, even if you ARE my boss’s son. Now, do you have anything else to say, or can I get to work?”
“…I’m sorry, don’t worry about me asking again. You probably think I’m an *ss, huh.”
“Depends on what you’re going to do after I head out—and what you’re going to do to your girlfriend for that matter but…I forgive you. As long as you don’t proposition me again. Trust me, if I want it then I’ll do it myself.”
She gave him a smirk, Raphael huffing in amusement.
“Alright then, suppose I can live without you.”
“Mhm, maybe you’ll recover from that one day. As for your relationship troubles, my advice? If you’re trying to sleep with someone else, then it might be time to actually break up.”
“I’ll…keep that in mind.”
There was obviously a lot more to it that Haley didn’t know about but both sides of her didn’t want to know more. She was already having trouble with ONE pack heir; she didn’t need trouble with another.
As Haley left Raphael behind, she expected more repercussions for saying no and hoped desperately that it was Lucarus’s influence on his son and not some delayed punishment for saying no to him.
In the kitchen, Haley was lost in thought. As she mixed the salad to prepare for the guests, she couldn't help but think that she probably could’ve even gotten a stupid amount of information out of Raphael if she agreed to his terms, but she hadn’t.
It wasn’t just because she’d be breaking Heather’s character and getting into some deep sh*t with Raphael’s current girlfriend. She just hadn’t wanted to sleep with him, let alone get physical with him.
With Remus though she had wanted to flirt, and touch, and kiss and God did they kiss the last time they saw each other. It wasn’t just some fling or craving that was going to be satisfied because she—she wanted to get to know Remus as a person, just not a target.
And that, that was dangerous. She was undercover, she was a spy, and she had a job to do.
“Wow, that expression you’re making could make the vegetables wilt all by themselves.”
Haley took a breath. Now wasn’t the time to scold herself for liking someone she shouldn’t be trying to obtain.
“Hey Leo, and I’m not about to do your work for you, you can turn a knob on the stove.”
“And you can take out the salads, so I don’t do your job. Also, FYI, you might get a text from a random number. I gave your phone number to a friend of mine. The Silvermane house is down a few servers and of the people not vetted you’re one of the ones I can trust not to make a scene.”
“Aww, Leo, your confidence in me is so sweet,” she cooed falsely.
“Yeah yeah, try not sleep with any of them,” he snarked and oh, she was gonna try, he didn’t need to worry about that. “Salads, go.”
She did as ordered, and it was around dessert time that she was able to check her phone, seeing that she did, indeed have a text, and God had to have been laughing at her right now.
‘Hello, this is Remus Silvermane, I’d like to know if you’re free tonight? The manor is short on servers and the regulars we usually hire are unable to work. Leo said you’re capable? Text me back if you’re interested and okay with working for the other packs.’
But who was she to deny fates temptations? She had a job to do.
‘Hello Remus, this is Heather. I suppose third time is the charm. Text me the details, see you tonight. <3’
