“Alright, where does this crate go?” She was helping move a shipment of fresh vegetables into the fridges so they wouldn’t spoil.
Haley had technically started her mission a month before Alpha Silvermane’s birthday party. Bret had picked her out of a slew of other operatives because of her skillsets and during that time they polished them and got her familiar with the targets.
A few words here, buying a few rounds of drinks for the friends she was making, and she got an in with her ‘cousin’ Eddie Parker.
Not as rich as the main pack or the Alpha’s family, but with a decent enough standing that he could do his family member a little favor by speeding up her application process so she could get a job working for family and stay longer since she ‘just loved Newday city compared to the mainland’.
Then she was interviewed, trained a little bit, and tada~. She was a hostess for the Parker pack, though technically the company she worked with was closely tied to the Parker’s but took work from the other two families, which was how she got into Alpha Silvermane’s party.
It had been a week since then and she was doing pretty well in settling into her role, even though the work sometimes felt a bit more mundane than the spy work she should be doing.
Haley was currently working in the kitchens and helping the chefs. While her role was more of a server and entertainer ‘Heather’s’ personality wouldn’t let her sit around being an unhelpful wallflower—nor would the mission.
“Thanks Heather, just put it down outside and I’ll get to it. Isn’t it your break?” asked Leo teasingly.
Leo Silvio, the youngest chef in the Parker manor and someone Haley thought she’d get along with even if she wasn’t acting as Heather. Blue eyes and a head full of blond curls covered up by a chef’s hat, he took his job very seriously but he was a genial guy.
They struck up a pretty easy friendship since Haley did her work and didn’t whine about it, despite being a Parker. Something easily written off the moment she told some story about her mother wanting her to actually be able to do chores and cook for herself.
There was one other reason she’d been kindling her friendship. Leo Silvio might be a chef in the Parker manor but his contract wasn’t with them, it was the same company she was working with, meaning he’d been hired by the other packs before and was a well of information and dirt.
He hadn’t really spilled anything vital, and Haley wasn’t really sure if a chef would know any of the dirty secrets going on in their manors, but he DID have a good friend. A ‘mutual’ of theirs, you could say.
Remus Silvermane. Even after a week she hadn’t been able to get him out of her mind and frankly, it was starting to get a tad vexing.
Haley had a mission to accomplish, she shouldn’t be swooning over anyone unless it was necessary to keep her cover, yet here she was was with a—a puppy crush!
It was ridiculous! She didn’t even WANT a relationship after the last disaster. Her ex could go f*ck himself and she hadn’t wanted to think about potential partners, but Remus kept popping up.
“So, any drama going on?” she asked with a teasing smirk, leaning on the counter and Leo rolled his eyes.
“Don’t you start, I’m on the clock, I’m not giving you any ammo against your co-workers.”
“Why, Leo, how cruel do you think I am?” she gasped, fluttering her lashes playfully. “I just want to get to know about my co-workers, and maybe a bit more.”
“No fooling around on the job, the last person who did got fired for it, I’ll tell you that much.”
“Urgh, they obviously didn’t know what they were doing. You don’t f*ck in your boss’s house.”
Leo snorted before straightening up at whatever he saw behind her, and she quickly did the same.
“Oh, Heather, what a nice surprise, how are you settling in?” Alpha Lucarus asked her, him and his wife entering the kitchens, and she hadn’t realized he remembered her from the party.
“I’m doing well, Alpha Parker, and it’s wonderful to finally meet you, Luna Daniella.”
“Lucarus, who’s this?” Daniella asked, her smile just a bit too sharp to be kind.
“This is Heather, she’s a distant relative, dear. She recently started working with the company Appetit, she’s a hard worker.”
“You flatter me.” Wow, Haley found herself actually blushing a bit. She hadn’t expected such genuine praise.
“Nothing but the truth, I’ve seen a lot of our family slack off because they think they can just coast off of our name but it’s good to see you putting in the effort.”
“Now, Lucarus, we shouldn’t keep her too long. I’m sure she needs to get back to work.” Daniella’s words were a too sharp to be friendly.
“Luna Daniella is right, I actually have to go catch the train, it’d be a shame to miss this one.”
“The train?” questioned Lucarus and Haley held her breath, but she knew not everyone in Newday had cars, not even the rich. Though for a Parker it would be odd.
“Yes,” she answered calmly. “I live a bit far away since it was rather sudden when I told my parents I wanted to stay in Newday. It was the only place I could get on short notice—I don’t mind walking.”
“You sometimes work the night shift, that’s not safe,” he frowned. “How about moving into the employee apartments.”
“Lucarus! Those are for the staff who work at the manor.”
“Does she not, Daniella?”
“The staff who work solely at the manor,” she managed to bite out without gritting her teeth.
It might be too late to not make an enemy out of Luna Daniella, and she still had no idea what she did. Maybe she just didn’t like the family since Alpha Lucarus was trying to look out for her.
“Well, nevertheless it’s an option, you can stop by the apartments later to check them out.”
“I—thank you, Alpha Lucarus, I will.” Haley tried not to beam too brightly and incur Daniella’s wrath but like hell she wasn’t going to take his offer. It would be easier to spy on them if she was living close by.
“Before you go though, I’d like to ask you a favor, dear.” Luna Daniella’s smile showed her fangs, and there was only one way she could answer that, no matter how much she feared what that favor was.
“Of course, what do you need, Luna Daniella?”
