Chapter 17 - Chapter 17.

Emily's POV

"We are in a process of getting to know each other better. He just came to visit me." I involuntarily squeeze the manila envelope against my chest, while Jordan looks at me dumbfounded with his mouth open.

He hands me back my coffee and pulls his cell phone out of his apron. He reaches for something on his phone and stamps the screen of his cell phone on my face, with a picture of Nathan I feel reflected.

"This is the man you are meeting, Nathan Vandenn?" He asks and I nod in bewilderment. My answer makes him more excited and he starts jumping up and down in his place: "Get pregnant now girl, don't let this man go, I implore you."

I laugh at his reckless comment, still looking at him strangely for his disconcerting emotion.

"God shut up Jordan, that's not going to happen" I say and his head starts to shake from side to side, reproaching my words.

"Silly girl, you are a silly girl" He raises his hand and gives me a little smack on the temple: "Nathan Vandenn is the hottest young millionaire in town, that man is a hit with the ladies, and you who seem to have him are not thinking of ways to tie him down. Silly girl."

If only you knew I was about to move in with him, your head would explode in bewilderment and pure excitement.

"I don't have to get pregnant to tie someone down Jordan, I'm a sweetheart of a woman" I say as he rolls his eyes, and I laugh: "Besides, what do you mean a hit? What do you know about him?"

"What do you mean? Don't you know him or his family? The man is quite an image, he has quite a reputation as" He explains: "Not to discourage you, my dear, because you don't know how excited I am to see that finally, someone here has a vision. But the man is quite the Casanova of London, he knows exactly how to live life being a delightful young millionaire."

His words baffle me even more. He blurts out a lot of facts at once, without giving concrete information.

"You seem to have him on the right track" I laugh, and take a sip from my glass of coffee. "I still don't understand why Casanova of London, though. Does the man have many women?"

He nods, takes a seat at the table we just vacated, and invites me to take a seat. I look up to see that someone else is manning my booth and take a seat across from him.

"I don't want you to feel attacked, but rather flattered" he begins, surely aware that he was about to spill sensitive information to me: "As I said, Nathan knows what it's like to live life. He parties hard, drinks like a pro and the women are raining down on him in droves my dear. Dozens."

"And he accepts them?"

"One never turns down food Emily, get that in your head" He answers, making it clear that the answer was yes "Every night he's seen in a club, he's got a different woman hanging on his arm. He's something of a woman taster, he's an idol to the Ems youth."

He says unaware that he was in front of the person who had just told her that she was in the process of getting to know the man. I already knew Nathan had a reputation as a hardcore hunk from what I had caught up with reading on the web, however, what Jordan was saying gave a whole new dimension to things causing my chest to feel tight.

"Hell Ems, it's not like that" He pleads, seeing the forlorn expression on my face: "Flattered not attacked, remember?"

"You're telling me the man I'm proposing to meet is quite the ladies' man, how else can I feel?" I question.

"Blessed daughter, that's the answer" He utters nonsensically: "That he came all this way just to see you are a very good sign Emily, he's just a little bit more interested in you than anyone else. Exploit that charm honey, love him emotionally."

He's interested in me because he needs me to get richer, there was no other underlying reason.

"No kids?"

"No kids" He smiles at me as he pats my hand: "By the way Ems, how did you meet him? I thought the man was kind of unattainable."

Coffee suddenly burns my lips at his sudden question. I hadn't even had time to assimilate the situation and I was already facing questions like this, hell. Lying was no easy task.

"I think it's about time I get back to my post before the boss shows up" I get up from the table and kiss Jordan's cheek: "I promise to tell you everything as soon as I understand what's going on with my life".

"You promise?" I nod and he smiles satisfied with my answer: "Now go long pretty face, go and tend the place."

Should I bother? I don't know, I don't even know what I'm getting into, but now that I think about it better.... I can't help but think I'm making a big mistake.

I've never been much of a fame-loving person, and this guy, with all the pictures and his information on the internet, isn't he the complete opposite of me? Besides, now that I am his "girlfriend" and have my real name associated with his, am I really not making a big mistake?

I don't know, I don't know anything anymore, the only thing I know is that I have no way back.

"Thanks for the coffee" I pinch his cheek, put the manila envelope away in my locker, and go back to the cashier to tend the place.

For the entire duration of my shift, the only thing that managed to constantly cross my mind was Jordan's words. The whole "Nathan does know how to live life" thing scared me a little, even though I now had an envelope full of Nathan's information sitting in my locker, I could easily say that I didn't know him at all.

I had gotten myself into a situation that I might not know how to handle, I just hoped it wouldn't blow up in my face in the future.
