Lucian released William, taking long strides to where his mother stood. The older woman smiled warmly, watching her only son in all his glory. Big, muscled, and beautiful...just like his father.
"Mother, it's been too long. What are you doing here?" The actor kissed the back of his mother's hand as a comforting welcome gesture rather than a hug. "I thought you said you won't be here until I have found a mate."
Lenore, his mother, stifled a laugh by covering her mouth with her fist, sitting down on the nearest chair to her. She leaned back, staring up at him knowingly. Strange...
"Hello, Mrs. Anderson," William waved, massaging the bright red fingerprints on his neck. He had finally gotten himself off the floor and dropped himself on his chair. "You are still as beautiful as ever."
"Ooh, I do like flattery," Lenore teased before turning back to her son, her face as stern as an army general. "And yes, Lucian, that is the reason why I am here. You've found your mate, or rather, fate has put you two together."
"William, excuse us."
"Why? You are going to rank me your Beta tonight anyways."
Lucian frowned, giving him a once over before turning back to his mother. "What are you even talking about? You know who it is?"
Lenore smiled, stretching her hand up to pat his head. "All I can say is that I am dying to meet her. I need grandchildren."
Lucian shot William a dead-eye stare to shut him up, for the beta-to-be was failing to keep his laughter a secret. "Mother..."
"I'll settle myself in and begin preparing the festivities for tonight as soon as you decide to get us to the pack house on time," Lenore got to her feet, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
It is no wonder she was paired with his father, the late alpha. She was rather sassy and had a varying sense of humor which was opposite to her brick wall of a husband. After giving up his title to his only son, he took to the mountains after having a secret meeting with a Seer, and there he sat for the rest of his days until he died from hunger and dehydration. His last words before leaving the pack were said telepathically to his wife. The others knew because they could feel the mental block. A statue of him in wolf form was built and placed in that exact spot as a mark showing where he died and was laid to rest. His son, Lucian, was also a brick wall with a trace of his mother's humor and the rage of a hellhound. He never thought he would have found a mate at all, but, if his father could do it, then what's stopping him?
The three piled into Lucian's British McLaren and were on their way to their signatory pack house, a giant château made of cobblestone in the early 1800s, situated deep within a vast forest. The area was declared a nature reserve and few people dared venture into it due to rumors of hauntings.
"I think we should invite the abomination."
"WHAT?!"
"Calm down, son. Cars don't heal either." Lenore, unbothered by the sudden conversation, kept her attention solely on a giant book of Lore she almost always had with her.
"What do you mean calm down, mother? This son of a..."
"Watch your tongue."
Lucian, kept his eyes on the road, breathing heavily and counting under his breath before he could answer in a softer tone. "There is this girl, I'm partnered with her for a new movie. We think she's a half-wolf, half-vampire. The weirdest thing about her is that whenever I call her name, I become extremely...horny...to the point where my skin feels uncomfortable on my body and I want to rip it off. It then turns to pain that is situated everywhere. I don't know why but it is very annoying."
Lenore slammed her book closed, staring blankly at the road before her. William and Lucian shared a look of confusion as they waited for what she had to say. It wasn't until they were at a red light in the heart of the city that she finally broke the strange silence.
"Call her," She commented quietly, reopening her book and automatically blocking them out of her mind.
"What? Why?"
"I'll do it." William grabbed his phone in excitement.
"I don't even want to know why you have her number or what disgusting, sadistic thoughts are going through your head," Lucian commented flatly, driving at a slower pace than he'd usually do; his mother would wring his neck if he even went a second over the speed limit.
"Hey, Csilla. It's William, Mr. Anderson's agent. Um, we are having a little party tonight and we'd like it if you came along. Really? That's wonderful. Where are you right now? Behind us?"
William turned around in his seat, settling his attention on a big, black Dodge Ram about two cars behind them.
"What the f..." Lucian was rudely interrupted when his mother slammed the giant, old tome square in his face, splitting his bottom lip.
"Watch your tongue," she warned, sternly, almost immediately going back to her reading. This woman...
William slid his phone back into the front pocket of his jeans, settling back in his seat. "Okay, it may seem odd, but she was heading to the winery on Fourth, hence the reason she is directly behind us in a scary A double snakes truck."
Lucian checked his rear view mirror, and surely enough, a big, chrome truck with an extremely dark tinted windshield was right behind him. He couldn't see her, but he could smell the faintest trace of her threatening scent.
"Will, the rest of the pack are going to be against this as much as I am," the actor growled, gripping the titanium steering wheel a bit too tightly. He licked the blood from his split lip, ignoring the pain.
"Oh, come on, Luce. You are the alpha. Whatever you say goes. If anybody is against it, they can feel free to challenge you for your title," William stated proudly, still trying to change his mind.
Though, William was right. Lucian and his pack were traditional wolves. Their ranks were not set in stone so any one of the pack could challenge the alpha in a one-on-one fight and the victor would end up being the leader. There was a reason Lenore insisted on inviting her to the pack house. It seems, she knew something they didn't. Either that or she is trying to figure something out. Let the games begin.
