Chapter 8 - Another Monster

"Ok, she is asleep." thought Chan as he slowly removed Mrs. Ibu's arm off him.

Chan slowly slide off the bed trying to be quiet as he could until he was off the bed, "I think I should be in the clear." whispered to himself as he turned back to look if he woke up Mrs. Ibu.

He quickly and quietly made his way to the training hall.

Chan had to be extra careful and take his time walking there as he found out early on during his first few months living with his new family he found out the Ibu family had very exceptional hearing.

He was now almost at the entrance of the training hall and could hear what Uncle Oda was saying to Po, "Breathe in and hold it then try to spread out your ki to your whole body. Good kept doing this over and over again until you fall into a trance and do it without thinking."

Slowly Chan got to the entrance and peeked his head inside the training hall to see what the two inside were doing.

What Chan saw was both sitting down with their legs crossed and Uncle Oga sitting behind Po had his arms on Po's back.

A few minutes go by and the training hall was as silent as the night sky behind Chan.

"Now breathe in and move all of your ki from your body to your lower stomach." Uncle Oga instructed Po.

Chan could feel and see a vapor-like substance surround both Uncle Oga and Po, but mostly around Po.

"My stomach feels hot," said Po

"That is ok since you are just starting, most kids can't feel or use ki until they are close to 15, some are unlucky and never will feel or use it ever in life. You are doing good." Uncle Oga said to affirm Po.

"Keep doing this a few more minutes then you should be able to go to sleep." Uncle Oga told Po.

"That should be my cue to go back," Chan thought as he turned around.

Taking a few steps back he turned around and tried to sneak off into the darkness.

( Bam! )

"What was that?" Po said still with his eyes closed meditating.

"It's probably a bird," said Uncle Oga trying not to ease Po's mental state.

The noise was caused by Chan slipping onto his side as he was trying to sneak away.

He got back up and walked away as fast as he could, which wasn't that fast since he was still a toddler.

Thankfully Po was meditating or else he would've heard Chan's tiny feet stomp onto the ground as he power-walked back to go to sleep.

Chan made it back into the room Mrs. Ibu was sleeping in, he slowly climb back into bed and went to sleep.

A young servant girl walks into the room and gently shakes Chan, "Young Master get up, Young Master it's time to get up,"

"Mmmmhm," replied Chan who was only half awake.

"Young Master, please it is time to get up as Lord Ibu is returning today," said the servant.

Chan jumped up, "I'm up! Lili, did you say father is coming back?"

"Yes, Lord Ibu should be arriving soon," answered Lili.

Chan with the help of Lili got bathed and also dressed up to go welcome Lord Ibu back.

While being dressed Chan asked Lili a question, "Lili do you remember where my father had to go do?"

"Your father had to lead in the invasion of Hoken, a city of Fen," answered Lili.

"Hmmm, so this time it was Fen," Chan thought to himself.

The place Chan had been reborn into was a continent split into 8 different kingdoms. The kingdom that his family belonged to was Kan, the kingdom located in the far northeast of the continent. Chan not knowing how to read the letters of the new world that he is in only learns about it by asking around the Ibu household. Most of the answers weren't what he wanted to hear, as they were just answers to a curious kid so it was short and simple.

Now that Chan is 4 years old, he is tired of having to ask around. Chan wanted to learn how to read and write so he is planning to ask his father if he can get a teacher and be taught.

Lord Ibu was rarely around as the time around the continent was not peaceful and was filled with wars and battles.

The Kan kingdom had 5 major families that protects them and the Ibu family was one of them. Lord Ibu was also one of the generals for the Kan army, so he would spend most of his time on the battlefields but whenever he was able to be at home he was a very kind and loving father to his family.

Chan was hesitant to feel as though he was part of the family until recently as the warmth and bond were hard to shake off as the Ibu family was very loving and kind to Chan. He didn't want to admit it but he felt very happy growing up in a family as he never got to experience a family life before, the closest was being raised by Leon.

After finishing putting on his clothes Chan and Lili walked to the front gate of the property to get ready to welcome Lord Ibu back.

"Chan!" shouted Po as he was running through the halls to get to Chan.

Chan looked over to see who was shouting, before he even got to know who shouted Po grabbed his hand, "Chan do you want to walk with your older brother to go greet and welcome father back after a successful battle," asked Po.

"Sure," answered Chan as he knew Po would still drag him if he said no.

"Oh yea, brother there is also something I want to you later. Please don't tell dad or mom," Chan told Po.

"Ok, I'll let you know whenever I'm not busy training," replied Po.

The pair of brothers finally made it over to the front gate as they waited for their father to arrive.

"The lord is here!" shouted one of the gate watchers.

( Creak! )

The guards opened the door for Lord Ibu and his soldiers.

( Clack! Clack! )

In front, Lord Ibu and some of his men were on horseback while the ones in the back were on foot.

( Cheering! )

"Welcome back Lord Ibu!" shouted the guards as everyone including Chan and Po bowed their heads down.

"Is the food ready!?" shouted Lord Ibu.

"Yes! Prepare the feast!" instructed the head servant.

Po ran toward his father, as he was getting off his horse.

"Po!" said Lord Ibu as he hugged Po.

Lord Ibu looked around for Chan. Chan was slowly walking over to his father.

Chan making his way to his father received a big hug. Lord Ibu hugged both his son tightly and asked them, "How have you two been, you two just keep growing up," Lord Ibu has been gone for 3 months.

"Everything has been good, I have been training very hard every day," replied Po happily.

"That's good to hear as I heard you are gonna participate in the upcoming tournament of youth," said Lord Ibu.

The tournament of youth was a tournament held every 2 years in the capital of the Kan kingdom. The participants are citizens of Kan who are 15 to 16 years of age. The sole winner is held as the next guiding figure for the Kan army. The citizen, once they turn 17 can choose to participate in war as the adult age was 17.

"Yes, I'll try to make our family proud," said Po.

Lord Ibu smiled as the father and sons made their way to the feast ground on the property of the Ibu household.

The feast started with eating and drinking and ended with most of the soldiers passing out drunk.

The sun was setting as Lord Ibu ended the feast, "We ate and drank our hearts now it is time to rest. Help carry those who can't walk and go have some needed rest,"

"Po and Chan meet me at the watch tower. I need to change and talk to your mother first so I'll meet you two there." Instructed Lord Ibu.

The two brothers made their way there and waited by the door of the watch tower.

"Since we are here alone what did you want to tell me?" asked Po.

"Let us go up the tower first as I don't want anyone to see or hear," said Chan as the two brothers made their way up.

After they walked up many steps made it to the top of the tower. The tower had an amazing view of the night sky filled with stars sitting next to the two moons. Unlike on earth, the sky had more than one moon. The two moons varied in size as one was 3 times bigger than the other.

Chan sat on the ground, "This is what I wanted to show you, brother,".

Chan started controlling his breathing, he took big breaths in and slowly exhaled. Chan repeated those steps for a few more seconds.

Po couldn't believe what he was seeing. Chan was slowly gathering ki around his body.

Po was in shock and thought to himself, "What a monster. How did he learn how to do this?"

After gathering ki, Chan dispelled the ki inside him back into the air and looked up at Po, who couldn't say anything and was just staring at him.
