Chapter 38 - A Temporary Lawyer

"Couldn't her lunch break be held later on…" Izzy hissed under her breath as moments after they had finished their food, it was Eve's lunch break.

"So, I just have to go to a court and file a case against Adulu with you as my lawyer?" Eve asked nervously as Noah nodded.

"That's all you have to do," Noah confirmed before turning his head to look at Izzy. "Call Rebecca and tell her to come to the court as well."

Izzy took her phone out of her pocket and with a dejected look on her face, dialed her mother's number.

'Both of them must be going out or something.' Eve silently thought as she had a feeling that she was interrupting something between Izzy and Noah.

"Hello, mom. Where are you right now?" Izzy asked on the phone before she got up and went into a corner to talk to Rebecca.

"Um…" Eve suddenly felt the atmosphere turn awkward, at least for her.

But she couldn't be blamed as the only interaction she had with other people was at work.

'I shouldn't have agreed to that last night…' Eve clenched her fist as she remembered the last night's incident.

"Why did you decide to that hotel with Adulu?" Noah suddenly inquired as though he had read her thoughts.

"He promised to remove all the interest…" Eve mumbled. "I did prepare myself for what was about to happen to me but regretted it at the end."

"Fortunately, I was there at the correct time." Noah smiled while deciding to not pry further.

Truth be told, he had only gone after Eve because she had wished him birthday and had appeared to be working a day before she was actually supposed to work.

Noah had a feeling that Eve was working multiple jobs at the same time due to how sunken her eyes were and how tired she looked.

'Well, not like she is the only one in the world in such a condition.' Noah knew that many people were being scammed and exploited this way.

There were a few things he could do about it but he was no social service guy. He did have a few principles but when it came to morals, Noah would smile and blast things to dust.

Izzy came back a few seconds later and explained, "Okay so my mother agreed to it though she is quite curious as to what is happening. Anyways, we have to appear at the court in around ten minutes."

"Let's get going," Noah said while standing up just to find Eve looking at him with a blank expression.

"We are going to the court right now?!" she asked in a dumbfounded voice.

"The sooner we go there, the better. If things get sorted out today, you won't have to worry about working for a few years." Noah replied casually as Eve hesitatingly stood up.

It was quite hard for her to believe that someone she had just met a day ago would go so far just to help her.

"I am just going to watch Adulu suffer. Nothing else." Noah suddenly said as though he had read her thoughts again.

"All right…" Eve replied nervously before following the two of them out.

Her break still lasted for almost an hour so even if things didn't go as planned, she could still come back and continue working.

"Noah, are you gonna do 'that' to get us there on time?" Izzy narrowed her eyes as Noah moved towards an alley.

"She has already experienced it once though she wasn't conscious. I'm sure she won't tell anyone about this, would you Eve?" Noah asked with a smile that didn't look the least bit joyful.

It was the smile of a jailer who knew that the prisoners feared him, which wasn't quite the right comparison but still worked fine.

"I won't…" Eve mumbled while averting her gaze. For some reason, Noah's smile made her feel a lot more uncomfortable and unsettled as compared to what she was about to do.

"Let's go then." Noah suddenly teleported all of them.

The ground below them shifted as their surroundings completely changed. They had disappeared from one alley and had appeared in another one.

While Izzy and Eve felt nauseous, Noah did a quick sweep of their surroundings to make sure no one had seen anything.

"Let's go." He gave both girls a light shove on the back before walking out of the alley.

They had appeared a hundred or so meters away from the adventurer's center. The court was also a section of the huge building accessible from the east side.

The trio made their way to the east side only to find Rebecca, Erika, and Alec waiting for them there.

"Were guys nearby?" Rebecca asked in a surprised tone as she couldn't believe how fast the trio had gotten there.

"Something like that," Noah replied before pointing towards Eve. "She is the girl I'll become a lawyer for. Her conditions are as follows…"

Noah then went on to tell Eve's tale in a summarized version before waiting for Rebecca's reply. The latter looked at Noah once before shifting her gaze to Eve.

"Do you want him as your lawyer?" She asked in a serious tone.

"I don't know…" Eve mumbled before shaking her head. "I'm not really sure what will happen but I know that he has all the things required to win a case."

"Then I guess you are good to go. I can say it with a guarantee that you won't find a single lawyer here who will handle the case for you or will give you a winning chance." Rebecca replied grimly.

"What?!" Eve looked shocked by the revelation.

Noah had of course known this but hadn't told Eve about it. It was to make sure that she heard the words from the mouth of someone working in the law field.

"Only the top-level lawyers will take your case and they will prevent others from taking it if you refuse them. Their fees would be astronomically high and I'm sure that most of them would be bought by Adulu before the case even begins." Rebecca explained.

Corruption ran inside the judiciary as well yet Eve hadn't expected it to run so deep. If she didn't have Noah as her lawyer, wouldn't that mean that she would lose no matter what she did?

'Adulu will also come searching for me tonight…' She remembered before asking aloud, "aren't you a lawyer too?"

"Though I am one, I work in a different department. I'm one of the more paperwork kind of worker." Rebecca explained as Eve turned towards Noah with a dejected expression.

"Let's go then…"

"No need to look so depressed. I will win this case even if the judge has been bought." Noah reassured her with a real smile.

Eve felt slightly better for some reason as she nodded and made her way to the counter.

Izzy watched her go with narrowed eyes before looking at her mother. The silver-haired girl had a strange feeling building up in her chest after hearing Noah and Eve talk.

"Mom, there is something I need to tell you…" Izzy muttered.

Noah on the other hand went to the case registering counter with Eve. There was a screen placed there to register cases as well as well as getting the timings, filling the lawyer information, etc.

Noah and Eve filled the form together and he also paid a special fee to make sure that they would get a session in the next thirty minutes.

"Now we have to wait," Noah muttered as he pressed submit and went to sit on one of the couches.

Eve nervously followed him as she settled down on one of the chairs opposite of him.

Both of them would get the confirmation or denial of their form on their phones so they just had to sit there and wait.

Inside the place where the forms went to…

"Holy sh*t! Someone just filled a case against Adulu y'all!" a man suddenly shouted as all of the workers immediately stood up from their spots and gathered around the man.

"Tell us about it!"

"Tell us!"

"I will once you calm down," the man replied as the crowd calm down. He then went on to explain the details but when he read the name of the lawyer, the entire place went silent.

"It's that kid…" one of the workers muttered as whispers started going around.

"I better inform Adulu about this. We can't deny this request lest the kid gets angry and comes for revenge…" the man muttered before calling Adulu.

[ You have become a temporary lawyer for handling Eve Rilonsia's case. ]

Noah saw the message pop up on his phone after ten minutes as he stood up with a smile. Eve stood up alongside him as she felt extremely nervous.

'Things are gonna change for me today… be it for the good or not.' She thought silently before following Noah.

Erika followed them as well but Izzy and her family stayed behind. After all, the daughter-mother pair were having an 'important' discussion.

"Are you nervous?" Erika curiously asked as they made their way to the courtroom.

"Mhm, there's nothing there to be nervous of. We are winning the case anyways," Noah replied with a shrug. "Also, you'll get to see Adulu's downfall mom."

Erika looked at her son for a few seconds before sighing. She had a lot of questions that she wanted to ask but decided to do it once they were in a more private place.

Once they had reached the entrance, Noah suddenly summoned a coat and wore it.

"Let's win this case and go home to have something sweet."
