Chapter 2 - In Love With A Shifter

Chapter Two

Jaydon

I woke with a start, before releasing a small sigh of relief, It's same nightmare I have every time I shut my eyes.

Reliving my dad's death all over again and it's draining me. I shuffled out of my bed, to my bathroom for a quick shower that took me a little longer than I planned.

The meeting I had with my mother yesterday went a little too smooth, that it grates on my nerves. Mere sight of her irritates me, especially when he's with her.

I can't just forgive her for what she did,she knew I was going to get hurt but still went ahead and did what she wanted to.

I might not hate her but I don't like her either, most times I ignore her, cause I can't bring myself to interact with her the way I used to. She caused his death and I can never get past that, whenever I see her I get reminded of that terrible night. And seeing her happy, acting like all's well grates on my nerves.

"Alpha, there's someone at the border that seeks your audience", David, head of the guard, mind linked. Bringing me out of my dark thoughts.

"Okay, I'll be there in a few" I replied, as I put on a red stripe shirt, paired with a black trouser.

At a distance, I could see a blond lady chatting with Sar, the packs chatterbox. As I moved closer i could sense that the lady was an unshifted wolf. But what got me, was the faint smell on her, it brought me inexplicable Joy... I don't understand, could she be my mate? But I don't feel any pull, like I'm supposed to.

Or perhaps she had an encounter with my mate, that'll explain why I don't feel any form of connection with her. I felt relieved at the same time disappointed. I don't want to meet my mate, ever, we'd only end up hurting each other or I get betrayed like my dad.

Alpha! Everyone at the border greeted, except for the blonde lady, who's head was tilted sideways to show respect.

"You demanded my presence" I questioned.

" I—I wonder if I could ask a favor of you. " She was almost shaking as she answered me.

" Yes? "

" I—it's been a while since my husband died..... And I —i thought I could seek protection for my self and my kids, since we're not too far from your territory.

"Protection?" That was the last thing I'd expected.

"Why?" "Any particular reason?"

"What about your pack? "

" Why should i?"

" I don't take in strays? "

" "And besides you're not a shifted wolf, you'd only be a weak link in the park"

" you mentioned husband, is he your mate, or a human you married not waiting for your mate or after rejecting him or you were probably rejected". I spat out each word, with fury. " How dare you waste my time on such trivia stuff? " I asked, as I glared at her.

" I—I don't—"

" I—er—he was murdered by wolves from the Shadow pack, my father's the alpha.... I guess he found out my mate was human, and cause I can't shift into my wolf form and I'm first in line to the alpha title, he'd rather I get mated to a chosen mate, instead of a human, I had to leave, and coincidentally my husband—mate was transferred here, so we decided to move together. And...

" That's enough of your life story, you can save the rest" I cut her off, not moved a single bit by her sob story.

"If it's pity you're looking for, you'll get none, not from me at least—but I'd tell you this for the sake of my beta that seems to trust you, if you need my protection you should apply for work at my company, my beta will give you my business card, and also enroll your kids at my packs school, that's the only way you and your kids can be under my protection. If that's all I'd like to take my leave I have better things to do". I said in a nonchalant voice as I turned my back on her and headed for my office.

"Actually you have nothing to do, you'd done everything you needed to yesterday night, after your meeting with your mom, least you forgot" my beta mocked, With a straight face as he laughed at me in the mind link.

"Fuck off" I returned as I blocked him. "What a pain in the ass" my wolf chimed in. "Decided to chip in now, you sure have a perfect timing" I retorted with an heavy dose of sarcasm. "Envious aren't we" he returned,in a mocking tone.

" Yeah, whatever makes you sleep" I replied before blocking him off as well. Such an annoying wolf.
