Chapter Seven
Jayden's POV
I woke with a start as my eyes snapped wide open, the covers slipped away from my body as I shot upright from my bed, covered in sweat.
I ran my hands through my now messed up hair, as I tried to calm down the fast–beating of my heart, by breathing in and out till my heavy breathing went back to normal.
I had another dream. No, not a dream, it was a nightmare.
A Nightmare that had replaced the happy dreams I used to have. But this was quite different from the usual recap of my mom's betrayal and father's death.
No, instead of my mother it featured a young girl. I know absolutely nothing about her but I can swear with everything I'm worth, she's the prettiest girl I've ever met, though I didn't see her face, that was the first thought that crossed my mind, although I can't explain why I'd thought that or why the thought of running my hands through her silky smooth brunette hair bring me Joy and a feeling of completeness.
Her heterochromic eyes sparking like gems got me entranced like I was spellbound.and I still couldn't see her face, It was like I was staring at her face but couldn't see a thing, like her identify was intentionally hidden from me.
The nightmare had first started off as a fairytale; a sweet dream I didn't want to wake up from, but before I could get a grasp on what was happening it all changed, drastically. Things took a a dark turn. The image then went from heartwarming to full blown nightmare, a total chaos. Like a scene out of an horror movie.
I went through the agony of witnessing her do exactly what my mother had done, succeeding her in completely ruining the pack.
I saw her, witnessed my worst nightmare play out before me. She held something in the palms of her hands,it was bloody, but still beating, I looked up to her to see the look in eyes and regretted it immediately. I later realized that it was my heart that layed in the palms of her hands as I looked at my chest to find a gaping hole where my heart used to be.
I could feel the accusatory glare of my pack members at the back of my head, adding more to the guilt I felt for the death of some of the pack warriors.
I tried all I could, everything in my power to reach her and make her stop what she's doing but I was stuck in the same place utterly helpless and powerless. Just as I felt my wolf try to take over and either put an end to it all or end up getting us killed which I really don't mind after my failure at ensuring my packs safety and security. I woke up, returning back to reality.
"Alpha you have a meeting with the council today". My secretary slash PA mind linked
"Okay, what time?" I asked getting out of bed to prepare for the meeting.
"In the next thirty minutes, Sir". Was her reply.
Meeting with the council is going to take the whole day, but there's something important I need to discuss with them and also check in on every department each elders oversee.
Immediately I became an alpha, the Night Shadow pack underwent restructuring and one of the things I established were the council.
The reason being that higher-ups in the pack abuse their power and rank and the council is there to keep them in check.
I appointed eleven elders I believed have the best interest of the pack and the supernatural world ain their heart. Each members of the council were appointed head of the different departments in the pack.
The elders and the alpha are the top authority in the pack house and the only one the alpha answer to and vice versa.
After what happened in the past, I didn't want the pack to be left in a vulnerable state, not while I'm still alive. I clenched my jaw at the thought of what had almost happened, how the pack was almost ruined cause of greed and selfishness. The Luna's betrayal a fatal blow to the pack.
I'd stripped her of her title, although it wasn't supposed to be that way, we normally hold a ceremony, a coronation where she steps down and hand over her title to the next Luna, my mate.
A pack can't stand without the Luna cause Lunas are the ones that deal with the emotional stability of the pack, they help in nuturing some of the pups and give guidance to the women of the pack and support the alpha in the growth and development of the pack. They also assist the alpha in decision making by giving good and credible advice. No one can deny the amount of power the Luna wields in a pack. They can be the pillar of the pack and can also lead to the downfall of the pack. Giving a person this much power is bound to bring destruction, I know this cause I witnessed it along with many others.
It's the main reason why I established the pack council, the power and authority will be evenly distributed, the elders and whoever is appointed the next Luna will work hand in hand, as the elders are like second Luna to the pack. Considering I haven't found my mate yet, they do all the work of the Luna.
" Liam is everyone in the meeting hall". I mind linked my beta.
" Yes, we are awaiting your arrival, before we proceed with the meeting".
" Okay I'll be there in a few minutes".
" I'll relay the message". He said closing the mind link.
I got in the bathroom and took a quick shower, stepping out when I was through to get dressed Immediately and head off for the meeting hall, which happens to be close to the pack house, which is where I spent the night cause of the many paper work I had to sign.
