Aldrich was indeed the best but in the kingdom of Ardolf he felt a little unsettled. Especially Deimos who made him feel uneasy when he first saw him. The way Deimos at every cadet when they arrived and the way he talked made wary of him.
According to him, if Deimos wished he would reveal his true identity with a thin guess in one go and that alone was enough for him to stay on guard all the time.
He watched out for guards who were guarding the building and the wolves who were patrolling the grounds and the forests. Wolves have a strong sense of smell and they can catch anyone's scent within a mile and that's why Aldrich decided to find an opportunity to somehow make it inside the castle.
The area around the inn where they were made to stay was not guarded by any wolves. It was decided by the head that Yokel's werewolves won't need any protection from Ardolf due to some personal reasons, and so there weren't any werewolves around the inn.
