Chapter 20 - Mysterious Pillar

Benjamin slid the black armor over his torso. Despite being made out of some kind of metal, the armor was lightweight and flexible.

Immediately after putting it on, the armor began to glow and hum. Benjamin could feel the armor becoming a part of him. He looked around at everyone else. They were all marveling at the armor while Isaiah looked proud at his achievements.

"What exactly are these things," Evan asked. "This armor will drastically increase your defense. This way they won't knock us out with one blow," Isaiah replied. "There's no time for that," Benjamin said, "Right now, we have a reality to save."

High above the Earth Lord Beezlebub looked down in disdain. He hated having to be in this reality for even a second.

He continuously thought of his reality. Once this work was done he could claim his rightful place above all others. When his dimension was the only dimension, he would ascend to godhood.

No one and nothing would get in his way. He would secure freedom for his reality and power for himself. Alas, this dimension was the last dimension he would have to destroy.

He thought back on how this had all started. He remembered the humanoid figure appearing to him. It told him of thousands of other realities with the number continuing to grow.

It told him of how his reality ranked low on the scale. It told him of how beings in the higher realities were more powerful than he could ever dream. It was the knowledge that drove him into depression.

The thought of him and everyone he cared about being below others drove him mad. What was worse was that the figure told him he couldn't do anything about it.

It was one night when he thought about that particular statement that he decided to do something about it. He knew that he wouldn't be able to ascend through realities as the figure had been.

After all, he was a lowly human. Instead, he would destroy all others and absorb their essence. With this, he would not only be the top reality, but he would be able to remake his reality in his image. "Lord Beezlebub," A figure behind him said.

Beezlebub was shaken from his thoughts. He turned to face the figure shrouded in darkness. "All of the charges have been set and are waiting to be activated," the figure continued.

Beezlebub smiled. Decades of work and sacrifice would finally come to fruition. "Excellent," Beezlebub said. He turned one more time to look down at the pathetic planet below him.

Still smiling he turned around and began to walk away. Stopping, he turned to the figure and said, "Make sure no one interrupts the absorption process." The figure nodded and said, "It will be done." Beezlebub began to walk once more, prepared to leap.

Benjamin broke the surface. He climbed through the hatch and blinked his eyes to get used to the sunlight. The city was still in ruins. However, something was different.

The air was stagnant and the fabric of space itself felt… unnatural. The others had just gotten out of the hatch when an explosion rang through the air. In the four corners of the city, black energy beams shot up towards the machine in the sky.

They radiated so much energy that you could feel it in the air. They collided with the machine and began to power it up. As the beams charged the machine the crystal on top slowly turned black. "We have to hurry," Benjamin yelled. They all started running towards the nearest beam.

They ran and jumped around debris and over craters. When they finally reached it they found a pillar was generating the beam. Upon closer inspection, Benjamin saw that the pillar was not only shooting up a beam of energy, but it was also injecting something into the ground as well.

Isaiah kneeled next to it to examine it. After a minute of examining the device, Isaiah said, "It's tearing the fabric of reality. I don't think we can stop it." Evan, in a desperate attempt to stop the pillar from destroying reality, stopped time.

Seeing that this stopped the pillar from working he pulled Isaiah in with him. "Me stopping time stopped the pillar too, can you disarm it?" Evan asked. "I'll try," Isaiah replied.

Isaiah got to work on disarming the pillar. He pried off one of the panels and began to examine the circuitry inside. "This is such a complicated structure," Isaiah remarked, "It may take me a little while to disarm."

Evan sighed. "Alright," he said, "But hurry up." Isaiah turned back to the pillar and began messing around with the complex circuitry inside.

"Did you think you could just disarm the charge without our knowledge?" Both Evan and Isaiah turned around to see Alphaeus approaching from behind. He didn't look angry or annoyed.

He looked amused. "Isaiah you keep working on disarming that thing," Evan said, "I'll handle him." Isaiah turned around and began to work faster. Evan drew his sword and readied it.

"Care to try again boy?" Alphaeus sneered at Evan drawing his sword. "Care to notice anything before I kill you?" Evan was so distracted by Alphaeus's presence that he had failed to notice that his 30 seconds of time stop was up.

As time stopped there was no way for the others to help him. Evan finally realized this and knew that he just needed to buy time.

Alphaeus lunged. Evan blocked the blow with Excalibur. "What could give you hope of beating me?" Alphaeus laughed. "Because I'm better than you obviously," Evan replied somewhat lamely.

Alphaeus then proceeds to knock up Evan's spear and kick him in the chest. Evan was only knocked back a couple of yards. Alphaeus, looking surprised, said, "So you've gotten some extra tools, I see. Whatever it won't help you in the long run."

"With this armor, I'll defeat you and your boss," Evan said arrogantly. With those words, he raised his sword and prepared to battle. Alphaeus smiled, "Never have I seen someone so ready to die," he said. Alphaeus prepared his battle stance. I'm going to enjoy this, he thought to himself. "Face me, Evan, face me and die!"
