Chapter 24 - Stop the Machine!

The ground crumbled beneath them. It seemed as if the Earth itself was cracking being pulled into the machine floating miles above.

Beezlebub looked down at the chaos unfolding before his eyes. Finally, after decades of scheming and destruction, his dream would come to fruition. "15 minutes before complete reality absorption," Adina said from behind Beelzebub.

Beezlebub ignored her, continuing to watch the madness. Eventually, he turned around and looked at her. "Was he down there?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied smiling. Beezlebub turned back around and looked at the world he was destroying. "Prepare to make the jump back the second we're done here," he said.

Adina nodded and backed away. "What's all of this for?" A figure in a red cloak asked him.

"You'll see soon enough," Beezlebub replied. The figure walked up to him and stood beside him.

He too looked down upon the carnage unfolding on the surface.

They both stood in silence as an automated voice said, "Five minutes until complete reality absorption."

The group was running through the mirror dimension which too was crumbling. Xavier created a path for them to escape on but the path was shifting and cracking as well.

Around them, mirrors were falling from the sky and shattering on the ground. "How is this happening?!?" Corey asked, shocked.

"The mirror dimension is a reflection of ours," Isaiah replied, "If our world crumbles, then so does this one!" Lennox was at the front of the line. He used his enhanced speed to avoid any obstacles that stood in their way.

About 50 yards away, the exit was open and waiting, though not for long. The portal through which they needed to go was crumbling as well. Xavier and Corey combined their efforts, bending the space of the mirror dimension to get the group closer to the portal.

One by one they jumped through the portal, finding themselves miles above the surface of a rock that barely resembled Earth.

Slowly, their reality was consumed by darkness, and the machine that started it all went through the crack in the sky.

In the absence of gravity, Jackie used Kitsune to propel everyone through the crack as it sealed itself behind them. They landed on a rock in the outskirts of Beelzebub's home dimension.

The area they were in looked like a vast and unending space but somehow felt small and claustrophobic.

They were standing on a chunk of rock miles wide. Benjamin stood up, helped Velena up, and then asked, "Where the heck are we?" The machine they had followed was nowhere to be seen.

All that was there was them and the space around them. Isaiah pulled out his mace and began fiddling with it.

"I don't think now's the time," Evan said. Isaiah ignored him and continued doing something to his mace. Benjamin turned away from the group and walked towards the nearest edge.

In the distance, he saw a star that was much brighter than the rest of them. "We could head towards that star," Benjamin called back to everyone. Corey walked towards him and looked at the star he was talking about. "What about it?" he asked.

"I don't know," Benjamin said to Corey. "I can just feel that something's there." "And you'd be right," Isaiah chimed in, holding his mace up for everyone to see.

"I just calibrated my mace to pick up on the vast amounts of energy that thing was releasing," he continued. "It appears that it's going that way." Benjamin looked at the star.

Somehow, in some way, he got the feeling that was not a star. "Okay, but how do we get anywhere in this place?" Evan asked, frustrated.

"We can just ride Kitsune," Jackie said, patting it. Miles casually walked up to her and tapped her shoulder, causing a pink version of Kitsune to appear. "That could work," Miles remarked, forming his Kitsune into a flat sheet.

Velena, Benjamin, Corey, and Jackie climbed onto Jackie's Kitsune. Evan, Lennox, Miles, Xavier, and Isaiah climbed onto Miles's Kitsune.

"Where are we going, Isaiah?" Evan asked, scanning the space ahead. Isaiah pointed his mace towards the brightest star and said, "There."

Miles ordered his Kitsune forward and they were off, hurling into an unknown but dangerous enemy.

Beezlebub's ship had just reached the center of his dimension. Once the ship stopped he turned and began to walk towards an exit.

"Status report," he called to Adina as he passed her in the hall. "The reality was absorbed almost completely with no issues," she replied cheerily. Beezlebub stabbed at a door.

"What do you mean "Almost completely,"?" he asked angrily. " It appears that something must have survived," she said, frowning.

"Send Cyrus and Issac to deal with it immediately," Beezlebub said, practically yelling in his fury. "Yes, Lord Beezlebub," Adina replied, backing away and bowing.

Once she was gone Beezlebub calmed himself. He didn't need to get angry now, not when he was so close to achieving his goal.

He stepped off the ship and onto the surface of what had once been a glorious planet. Soon, he thought, looking at the large crystal tank on the top of his ship, Soon.

The group was flying on top of the two kitsunes. They traveled in silence, each one of them reflecting on what had happened to their home.

Benjamin was sitting beside Velena and was fiddling with his sword. "What'll happen when we get there?" Velena asked him.

Benjamin thought to himself. "I don't know," he replied after some time. "The last time we fought them, we barely beat them."

"Not only that, but we don't know how many of them there are." Benjamin was starting to panic.

He brushed his hair out of his face and stared at his own reflection in the blade of his sword. His face was covered in cuts and bruises with a little ash on his cheek.

"We're almost there," Isaiah called out from ahead of them. Benjamin sheathed his sword and looked ahead. In the distance, the machine that had invaded their world was sitting on a particularly large portion of the rock.

Before he could get a closer look at it, the machine and the rock vanished.

Benjamin looked around in shock. Nothing was there except for stars and chunks of rock. Isaiah's mace suddenly changed its direction pointing off to the side. "It's that way now," Isaiah said.

"Are you sure your mace isn't just broken?" Evan asked him, raising one eyebrow.

Isaiah had ignored him, opting instead to look at his mace. Corey and Miles climbed off of Kitsune and began to look around for any sign of the machine.

Evan and Lennox decided to do the same. Everyone followed suit until Isaiah was the only one still sitting on a kitsune.

He cursed his mace and finally looked up. "I don't think-." His sentence was cut short when he saw a person looming in the shadows. Isaiah's voice made everyone turn towards him, keeping them from seeing the person.

Isaiah snapped out of his stupor and told everyone to look at the person approaching them.

Upon seeing the mysterious person, they all drew their weapons. When the figure finally stepped into the light he revealed himself to be a tall man wearing a green and white cloak.

He raised his hand and thrust it forward, sending a massive ball of energy at Xavier. Xavier lunged to dodge it. As the ball passed Xavier it Exploded, tearing apart the rock they were standing on. Benjamin landed back on another rock with Velena and Jackie.

Kitsune had lunged in front of Xavier and blocked the blow.  The man realized he hadn't killed Xavier and began to create balls of energy around him.

Benjamin drew his sword anticipating a fight but Xavier said "go" Everyone looked at him and he looked pissed.

"You need to find the machine and shut it down," Xavier said. With those words, he began to channel energy around him. Space itself began to distort around him. "Now go!!!" Xavier yelled.
