Chapter 21 - My Slice Of Heavan

Once I was done talking with Tom, I tried to stand up but fell right back down in the chair. I got weak and dizzy as soon as I stood like I had got a high dose of poison.

"Woah… what is wrong with mer," I said, slurring my last word.

"You're drunk! It happens to the best of us, and since this was your first time, you're probably going to have trouble walking," Tom laughed, but I was having none of it.

"I-mish, no dart drank," I said as I stood once more, staying up this time.

"Well, as long as you find your way to your room, you should be fine. Tomorrow you might have a helluva hangover!" Tom barked out with laughter while helping guide me out of his den.

"Hell Hangova? What dis?" I asked, trying to string words together so at least I could make sense of what I was saying.

"You will be hanging over the toilet tomorrow morning, puking your guts out!"

"Wha?! Thas sounds hor-r-ribller!" I exclaimed, but then my stomach turned something fierce inside of me.

"Hey! Don't get too excited if you will waste a good supper! Get your ass up to bed!" Tom ordered, and I tried to straighten up and give him a salute but fell over.

Tom laughed at me and gave me a hand back up, sending me stumbling down the hallway. The route back out to the central part of the inn was pretty guided, and Dorthy was the only one out front.

"Oh jeezus, my husband can be such an asshole sometimes! GIRLS! COME GET YOUR GOD!" Dorthy yelled, and I fell over again, not expecting the booming voice.

I managed to get back up on my own, even though Dorthy had offered to help, and I waved her off.

"Don't yer werry bout meh! I can climb this… Mountains!?" I said, stumbling over to the stairs and looking up at them.

For some reason, they looked a lot more intimidating than the last time I walked up to them. I tried to lift my foot up to the first step, but I was sure that Tom had somehow slipped lead shoe soles into my shoes.

"Damn, heavy shoes," I complained as I got to the sixth step gripping the railing for dear life.

"Talon? What happened to you?" Tracy asked me from the top of the stairs, and I waved at her.

Unfortunately, that was the hand I was using to keep myself up, and I tipped over backward, crashing back down the stairs.

"Talon!" Both girls cried, but I was okay.

Rolled in some impossible position to make me into a ball at the bottom of the stairs. Absolutely fine, so much that I might just take a nap here.

"Your father was feeding him rhum by the smell of the poor kid," Dorthy said in a regretful voice.

"Stuff is pretty good after the first cup, but I don't know how much I like this weeble wobble stuff," I said as the girls unrolled me and slurred less, which was a win in my books.

"Well, this is one new thing for you, so you are fulfilling your mission in a way," Tracy said as she put my arm over her shoulder.

Annie came on the other side, but she was much shorter and more of an armrest at this point. She didn't look happy about it, but Annie didn't complain, and we soon made it up to the top of the mountain.

Next, the girls dragged me down the hallway to our room at the end. Once we were inside, I wanted nothing more than to sit back down, but the girls took me to the bed.

The thing looked a lot bigger, but I was sure that there were two beds in here before. Maybe the girls decided to get their own rooms after all, and that was okay.

Tracy guided me over to the bed and then helped me out of my pants and shirt, leaving me in my small clothes. The last thing I remember was being guided into bed, then everything went dark.

The following day, I woke to a feeling of death and sickness, but there were warm bodies beside me. I slowly tried to open my eyes and then snapped them closed for multiple reasons.

First, the sun was trying to burn holes into my eyes, and the moment my eyes opened, it felt like my head was put in between two rocks! The other thing was the fact that Annie and Tracy were both sleeping beside me in night clothing.

The first part was horrible, the second confusing, but I decided to keep my eyes shut for a bit longer. I tried to go over last night in my head, but I didn't remember the girls getting into bed with me.

One thing that I did know was that I didn't like alcohol. Why would anyone ever choose to do this to themselves?!

"Mmm," Tracy moaned from beside me.

She pressed her body into my own, her soft chest feeling like two pillows of the softest variety pressing into my side. There was nothing to complain about here other than the headache and sickness, but this really seemed like it was crossing the friend line.

I wasn't really sure what that actually meant, but I didn't want to fail my mission. I was supposed to make friends, but if we became more, would that matter?

Still, the girls seemed to be asleep, and Annie had her face resting on my chest, so I let them be. I didn't plan to get out of this any sooner than I had to, and it would be to find the healer when I did.

For now, I would just enjoy this little slice of Heaven that had been carved out for me here. I was no longer the Hero of the story, so I could move at the girl's pace and maybe even try to enjoy life a little bit.
