I woke up when something hit me, I'm too sensitive, or else I wouldn't have felt it. I opened my eyes only to see it was Jennie's hand. Yeah, she had slept here last night. My body was numb and she was massaging me and by the time she was done, she didn't want to go back to her room so u had to let her sleep here.
I looked at the table watch on the bedside table only to see that it was eight am in the morning.
"Hey, wake up we are so late... lady Sam is gonna skin me alive. Jennie, Jennie" I called out but she was fast asleep. I tried shaking her but she wasn't answering at all. I pulled the blankets off her, lucky enough that she woke.
"Hey, it's eight and we haven't even taken a bath yet, do you think lady Sam will scold us? Or maybe she is on her way here? " I asked but she seemed not worried at all. "Hey, are you listening to me? I just told you it's eight and you seem unbothered at all?" I asked again because she didn't seem moved. Or maybe are we already fired in such a way that there was no need for us to hurry?
"C'mon Giannna it's on Sunday...." she said in a sleepy voice. "What does that mean?" I asked her and she gave me you are not serious eyes.
"Means we are off work today duh!" she said returning to sleep. Well, I can't explain the relief I felt. But first was she serious or just pulling my legs here? Anyway, let me see how this goes.
I decided to let her sleep but I was surprised when she woke quickly and looked at me as if she had seen something.
"Hey, we have a lot of things to do today... Better take a shower quickly" she said getting out of bed. Again I was shocked. Wait a minute, so today wasn't Sunday, then that means we are dead.
"Didn't you just tell me there's no work today?" Does human life suck this much?
"Sorry, we have to do shopping, buy new clothes, shoes, a phone, show you around the city and a lot of things that we need to do. And you also have a lot of stories to tell me, like the country you are from and about your family maybe and I can tell you mine too" wait a minute I wasn't planning to talk about anything like this not even to a human no matter how much I loved them.
"Do we have to talk about that?" I asked her and she gave me some silly eyes.
"Yeah, it's what friends do, don't tell me you've never had a friend before," she asked and I looked away.
"I've had lots and lots of them, I just hate the fact of repeating the same old stuff and the same old stories when I get a new friend... It's tiresome and I don't like it even a bit... But who knows I might tell you but they are secrets you have to promise not to tell anyone." I said picking up the towel and heading to the bathroom. I had just woken up but I just wanted to smell the water and feel its beautiful smell go through my nostrils. I wished I could swim but I'm sure Lady Sam wouldn't allow that.
I had stayed in the shower long enough and I didn't want Jennie to raise questions. I walked to my bed only to find the clothes she had bought me yesterday placed on my bed, some jeans and a black crop top. She didn't in the room so I assumed that she had placed them there for me to were. Once I was done dressing I stood before the mirror. Who would have thought that my body was curvy, not hugely but petite and curvy, not slim but just the shape that I myself would admire if other people had, their wide-leg trousers fit me perfectly fine, especially the waist and the hips, then the blacktop that my stomach was almost bare. I don't care about that because I'm used to wearing something less on top or nothing at all, just letting my hair cover everything else. I stood there and looked at the image I saw in the mirror, this was a different me and I had to accept that because the only difference was that right now I was not in water and I wasn't half fish but still I do miss home and my body too, swimming inside the deep, seeing every beauty that the oceans hold, the beauty that can't be found anywhere else, exploring every creature of the sea and just seeing others if my kind plays and laugh, here I wasn't feeling that safe. It's been only two days and I feel like I have spent years here.
"They look so good on you... I envy your body you know" I turned to look at Jennie. " I got in while you were admiring yourself so don't look at me as if I sneaked in like a thief or something.
"Well that's what you did," I said after sitting on the bed. I looked at her and she looked good too. Dressed in wide-leg jeans too but they were ragged. She handed me some white sneakers.
"I bought them not knowing that my leg was too big... I guess I was drunk that time... Don't worry have never worn them" she said after I picked up the shoes. Well, the fact that she was helping me out was much better than the fact that I was feeling bad because I was bothering her. I needed this, and I guess she'll be the key to what I need to know about humans. She speaks a lot, the good thing is that I am a good listener. She might be able to teach me the things that I don't know about humans without her noticing it and with that, I'll be good to go. I was given a warning not to trust anyone and I was not going to bail on that. I was here for a mission and I don't think that I have feelings to display, maybe only fake. I'll have to let her help me as much as she wants, as much as there's nothing I'm giving in return. She is not my target but if I don't find whoever I'm looking for, then I'll be at war with every human, I'll wipe them all out, and I will start with the ones near the sea, causing a tornado isn't that hard and having the voice of the sirens came as a natural gift to me, no one will dare pass the sea.
"Hey, why is your face changing, are you alright? " I was taken aback by her words.
"Yeah, perfectly fine, just thinking about what Lady Sam said to me yesterday, she was too harsh I can't get the words off my head," I said giving the most sincere eyes I could give.
"Don't mind about her... Shall we go? " she said and I nodded and then followed behind her.
