Chapter 38: Fang Mo vs The Destroyer (2)
Thor bravely walked towards the Destroyer, only to be swatted aside like a bug. Jane immediately broke free from Dr. Selvig and rushed to help Thor. The Asgardian warriors also noticed and ran towards Thor, ready to rescue him.
Among the onlookers, Darcy Lewis noticed something strange about the Destroyer. At first, she was worried it would turn around and start blasting its laser again, but then she realized it seemed to be focused on something else. Darcy followed its gaze and saw a man holding a huge blade.
"Who's that?" Darcy asked curiously. "Is he one of your friends?"
"Our friends?" Volstagg, who was less injured than the others, looked up and saw Mark standing not far away. Completely shocked, he stammered, "He's not with us?"
"What?" Darcy was taken aback.
"It's dangerous!" Hogun shouted urgently from the other side, noticing the man's weapon. He assumed the man must be a warrior, but they were still on Earth. Could a mortal warrior be stronger than an Asgardian like himself? Even Hogun was no match for the Destroyer, so this mortal's intervention seemed pointless. "Get back! You're no match for that thing."
Before Hogun could finish his warning, the faceplate of the Destroyer suddenly opened, and a deadly laser beam shot towards the man.
Everyone watched in horror, wondering what would happen next.
Sif and Darcy couldn't bear to watch and instinctively closed their eyes.
That armor was personally crafted by King Odin himself. Surviving that terrifying laser would be a miracle, let alone escaping unharmed.
But just as everyone braced for the worst, an incredible scene unfolded before their eyes.
As the laser beam approached, an invisible ripple appeared in mid-air, blocking the deadly energy.
Then, the man quickly reached out towards the Destroyer, using some kind of powerful force to pull it towards him. The armor flew towards him uncontrollably, and in that instant, he raised his giant purple blade and struck the armor with brutal force.
A resounding boom echoed as the Destroyer spun wildly and crashed into a nearby building.
"What the—?!" Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief.
The Asgardian warriors, in particular, were completely stunned. Their confidence and understanding were shattered.
Had a mortal actually sent the Destroyer flying with a single blow?
This had to be a joke! They had fought for so long without even scratching the fearsome armor. And now, a being from Midgard had effortlessly sent it flying with one strike?
Even Volstagg started to question his own sanity, wondering if his injuries were making him hallucinate...
...
Meanwhile, Mark, the man they perceived as a Midgardian...
He was closely examining the Hellish Cleaver in his hand.
Although the cleaver had been materialized, it originated from the Tinker's Construct module. To test its attributes, Mark had deliberately set its durability to level five, making it "Unbreakable."
But Mark wasn't sure if this property would carry over to the real world.
And that's how the scene at the beginning unfolded.
Mark tested the weapon against the Destroyer.
The result confirmed that even after clashing with Asgard's toughest Uru metal, the Hellish Cleaver showed no signs of damage or wear.
"It seems that 'attributes' can be materialized too," Mark nodded thoughtfully after inspecting the cleaver.
Suddenly, a nearby building exploded in a cloud of smoke, and the Destroyer emerged unscathed.
It was Odin's battle armor, after all, and incredibly durable.
But that was exactly what Mark wanted.
"I've finally found someone worthy of a fight," Mark's excitement was palpable. Since returning to the Marvel world, he had developed many new things. But he was getting bored without any opponents to test them on.
Once a god of war in the virtual realm, now awakened with his Stand, his fighting spirit was fully unleashed. He found more satisfaction in personally defeating the movie's bosses than in the tedium of crafting and browsing crafting tables.
As for the Destroyer, it represented the silent villains.
At that moment, it didn't make any other moves. Walking out of the flames, it aimed its laser beam at Mark.
A purple light flickered at Mark's fingertips, and the ground beneath the Destroyer quaked. In the next second, rocks, dust, and soil rushed towards it from all directions, encasing it in a massive sphere of rock.
But the surface of the rock sphere turned red, and scorching heat erupted from within. The rock transformed into burning lava, cascading onto the ground. The Destroyer struggled to break free.
Yet, before it could fully emerge, Mark hurled the Hellish Cleaver directly at it.
With a loud bang, the Destroyer's headpiece split in half, but the armor quickly started repairing itself. Just like when Sif had pinned it to the ground, the restored Destroyer continued to rise. It broke free from the lava, retrieved the Hellish Cleaver lodged in its head, and tossed it aside.
Seeing this, Mark nodded instinctively.
Perhaps this was a characteristic of the Destroyer—to be somewhat immune to physical attacks.
But that worked in Mark's favor.
With a simple command, Mark's Stand, Steve, swung a sword at the Destroyer. The armor stiffened slightly, revealing a cut on its chest.
Sensing the attack, the Destroyer lowered its head, focusing on Steve, ready to fire its laser.
Mark quickly flicked his finger, activating the Ender Hand force field. The ground beneath the Destroyer surged upward, causing the laser to miss Steve's head and hit a nearby street instead.
The enraged Destroyer glared at Mark, recharging its laser.
But in the next moment, the massive Hellish Cleaver lying on the ground shimmered with a purple aura, levitating into the air. Its blade aimed at the Destroyer's back, swiftly piercing through its chest. Before the armor could react, a gust of wind blew in its face. Mark, now wielding a hammer, descended from the sky, delivering a mighty blow to the top of its head.
With a deafening roar, the whole town seemed to shake as the ground beneath the
Destroyer shattered, creating a massive crater.
