Chapter 39: Fang Mo vs The Destroyer (3)
The onlookers were completely shocked, both the Asgardian warriors and ordinary humans like Jane Foster. They had just witnessed the raw power of the Destroyer firsthand, and it was terrifying. This thing unleashed incredible laser blasts and seemed practically indestructible. They had no idea how to fight it.
But now, this unstoppable engine of destruction was being mercilessly beaten down by a single person, unable to fight back. The sight of the Destroyer being brutally slammed into the ground left everyone stunned, especially the Asgardian warriors. The way Mark swung the hammer made him look like a heroic figure, blending with their image of Thor, the God of Thunder.
"Is it... over?" Darcy asked, her voice full of disbelief. "Did he actually defeat that iron monster?"
"Probably... right?" Jane replied, equally confused. "I can't imagine anyone surviving that kind of beating..."
But as soon as she said that, the Destroyer rose from the ground, its armor pieces flowing and reforming. In the blink of an eye, all the damage was gone.
Everyone looked at Jane, expecting an explanation.
"This..." Jane herself was momentarily stunned before whispering defensively, "Well, we have to remember that it's just armor, there's no living being inside..."
Meanwhile, Mark, gripping the hammer, was also a bit surprised. It wasn't the Destroyer's ability to take a beating that shocked him, but an unexpected electronic notification that popped up in his mind.
"Huh?" Mark was taken aback by the sudden alert. He was confused because he had unlocked the Mutant Creatures module when he defeated Abomination, but that was because Abomination was a mutant organism. Now he was fighting the Destroyer, so what kind of module could this thing unlock?
Mark had no clue, but he saw it as a chance to get a new module. If he couldn't figure out how to use it, he could just leave it and still get a Lucky Block. It seemed like a win-win situation.
Excited, Mark realized the Destroyer was the perfect punching bag. It could withstand his attacks and felt satisfying to hit. But he wasn't in the mood to keep hitting a stationary target anymore. Getting a high score with his punches couldn't compare to the thrill of getting a new item.
"Well, it seems it's time to show my true skills."
Lured by the promise of a Lucky Block, Mark stopped playing around and took a deep breath, his expression turning serious. With a wave of his hand, he sent the Destroyer flying through the air.
As mentioned before, during Mark's fight with Obadiah, his Ender Hand force field couldn't control living beings. But since the Destroyer was just an empty suit of armor, Mark had already won.
In mid-air, the Destroyer aimed its laser beams at Mark, but with a flick of his wrist, the hammer spun and flew towards the armor, smashing into its head and knocking it off course.
In a flash, Mark turned into particles of light, teleporting right behind the Destroyer. Swinging the Hellish Cleaver, he brought it crashing down on the armor's head, driving it into the ground like a cannonball.
But the fight wasn't over yet.
Mark summoned the hammer back to his hand, while the lower half of the Destroyer remained stuck in the earth, struggling to pull itself free with its hands.
This is where Mark's Stand had an advantage. Unlike Steve's attacks in the game, it wasn't limited by attack speed.
The strength of Mark's will determined how fast his Stand could attack. The wide and sturdy Hellish Cleaver, shaped like a door, created a flurry of illusions with its incredible speed, leaving the Destroyer no chance to fight back.
As the Destroyer endured the relentless assault and tried to pull its legs out of the ground, Mark made his move.
He launched the Hellish Cleaver from his hand. Controlled by the Ender Hand force field and infused with immense power, the blade sliced across the top of the Destroyer's head. Metal screeched as the blade cut through the armor's headpiece, burying itself deep in its chest.
Heavily damaged, the Destroyer stiffened, activating the magic runes within it, preparing to repair itself.
But Mark seized the opportunity, descending like a meteor. Before the Destroyer could react, the hammer, empowered by an overloaded Ender Hand force field, struck the Hellish Cleaver with devastating force.
For a moment, the scene seemed frozen.
Then, an explosion of kinetic energy erupted.
The hammer, lacking the "Unbreakable" attribute, exploded on impact. The tremendous force drove the Hellish Cleaver through the Destroyer's chestplate, sending sparks flying as it went straight through. The armor was cleaved in two, and the Hellish Cleaver, carrying its remaining momentum, crashed into the ground and disappeared.
Having done all this, Mark raised his hands and made a tearing motion, preventing the armor from regenerating. The Ender Hand force field glowed faintly, lifting the armor's body from the ground. It flew in two different directions, causing soil and rocks to cascade down and encase the armor. Growing larger, like a snowball rolling down a hill, it finally came to rest outside the town.
With that done, the Destroyer lay motionless.
At that moment, a notification sounded in Mark's mind.
[System Prompt: You have acquired the relevant structure of the 'Destroyer.' You have obtained 80% download permission for new modules.]
But when Mark heard this, he was dumbfounded.
"What the heck is this?"
Mark suddenly had a headache. "Hey, what's with this module progress bar? I already defeated this thing, and now you tell me this? I'm only at eighty percent. Where am I supposed to find the rest of the parts for you?"
