I shrugged. "Or maybe you are dating a tortoise?"
He looked at me with a perplexed gaze. A tortoise? Is there an idiom or quote I'm missing here?"
I chuckled. "No silly. It means that the person is heavily armored, not easy to penetrate or know what is inside."
"And ugly?"
The caused me to laugh out loud. "Tortoises aren't ugly."
"I beg to differ. They're definitely one of the ugliest reptiles."
"I think you are a tortoise," I said
"I'm definitely not ugly."
I rolled my eyes. "But you are heavily armored. You don't like sharing things about yourself. Well, deep things."
He considered that for a brief moment and nodded his head in concession. "I agree. But having learned about projection in the family therapy we had before they got divorced, I would say you are projecting too."
