Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Opal was walking to school with a bright smile. She was still thinking about her uncle. She met him yesterday for the second time and they talked about their past. She felt so at ease having someone around. She barely noticed people around her stepping inside the school grounds. Weekend was over and she was to face Jayden. He didn't appear for the whole weekend and the thought that he had just used her and then dumped was so hurtful, that Opal hoped that she was wrong. Maybe there was an explanation to it?

It was an English lesson and she sat next to Andy. The Beta gave her a displeased look and that was all for their interaction. Before the teacher appeared Julie sat down behind her and Opal could hear her sniffing the air. That was so fucking rude but she didn't expect anything from her anyway.

"Interesting smell, a new Alpha?" she whispered from behind. "Not wasting time I see." Julie chuckled. There was no reaction from Opal's side so she stopped her teasing.

After that lesson Opal walked around for a bit. She hasn't seen him in the hallway and as lessons passed Jayden was nowhere to be found. To be honest Opal wasn't inquiring anybody about him. She just kind of hoped they would accidently cross their paths. No, to be frank she wished he was looking for her too.

As she finally noticed him he was standing among his friends with a blond girl holding to his arm and sending him seductive glances. Jayden was chatting and looked careless. He noticed her. For a moment they were looking each other in the eyes but then Jayden turned away and continued talking to the group of students he was standing among. Opal felt a deep stab, right through her heart. Just like that. He fucked her and now she was a history. Was she supposed to approach him and ask why? Her heart beat like crazy but Opal couldn't make a move in his direction. It was embarrassing standing in the door and looking at him. Walk Opal, one leg after another she commanded herself. It was the most painful walk she has ever experienced. Her Mate rejected her without words after they mated. He didn't justify why, she wasn't worth it. Stupid Omega, putting her trust in the hands of such an asshole. What did she actually expect? He treated her like shit and she allowed him to fuck her as he pleased, no worst she even begged him to fuck her. The feeling of shame was overwhelming. She walked past that group of people not sharing a single glance at her Alpha anymore. Wrong, he has never been her Alpha. Bear with it Opal. Just as you always do. She heard their voices and his as well behind her back as she left through the school gate. She headed straight to Mabel's restaurant, she had a shift. No matter how a broken heart hurts she must maintain her living. She needed money, she will have to pay for the rent next week.

There was a lot of work for her at Mabel's and that was good, she needed distraction to stop thinking. People were going in and out and Opal cleaned the table, brought dirty dishes to the kitchen and set the tables. Running there and fro kept her mind busy. That's why she was surprised to hear familiar voices when a group of five people went in. Among them Jayden. The blond girl was still with him as well as two other Alphas and one female Omega. They sat in the corner. They were loud and they were laughing all the time. One of them accidentally knocked over a glass of juice. The glass shattered and juice was all over the floor.

"Shit, what a mess. Can someone clean it please?" Opal heard the request coming from the corner. Fuck. Taking a lap she moved unwillingly to do her job.

"Look who works here – Opal knew this mocking tone just too well, so she didn't even bother to look up. - Isn't it the Omega from our school?"

Opal was picking up all the glass shards and wiping the floor, she wanted to be quick so in a hurry she cut her finger.

"So clumsy, why do they keep you here? An Omega like you is probably good only for one thing." - The Alpha showed an obscene gesture and everybody laughed.

Opal raised her head and looked the fucker right in his gray eyes.

"I sure am, but you will never know. You're not an Alpha enough for me."

The other whistled and laughed at her comment. The Alpha with gray eyes turned red.

"You fucking bitch." - he hissed.

"But not yours" She replied before turning back to the kitchen she glimpsed at Jayden. His expression was indifferent.

Opal cleaned her finger and wrapped it in adhesive bandage. Her mind was blank. Her shift was over and she could leave. As she went out through the back door right behind the corner she stepped again at this merry group.

"What a coincidence, we met again." This Alpha was really pesky. Opal wanted to just pass by. He stopped her and grabbed her arm.

"What, no more clever answers? Shall I show you a real Alpha?"

From the corner of her eye she saw Jayden standing there with the blond Beta girl. He took her arm and left.

"I have better things to do than watching this poor show." It was directed at his companion rather than at her.

The angry Alpha still kept her arm and Opal knew that his grip would leave bruises.

"I'm tired so just hit me or let me go." – Opal spoke, staring back at her tormentor.

"Tom please stop, it's not funny"– the other Omega pleaded in a calming voice. - "Let her go."

The punch was quick and sudden, Opal landed on the street with a broken lip.

"Know your place bitch."

"Are you done, oh mighty Alpha?" - Opal smiled, showing him her bodied grin.

"You are insane." Tom was boiling from rage.

"And you are a real gentleman." Opal retorted getting up and smoothing out her messed clothes.

Tom was about to move in her direction when the Omega got a grip on him.

"Tom, I beg you, let's go." Opal could sense her sour pheromones, the girl was in distress.

"Yeah Tom, it's enough." The other Alpha agreed.

"You are a lucky bitch." Tom grabbed the scared Omega and left along with the other Alpha.

When Opal got back home her uncle was already there. He looked at her bruised face and said nothing. He hugged her and Opal felt tears rolling down her cheeks.
