''Remember to come here next week Wednesday.'' Dr. Ralph said before handing over the medicine to Amala.
''I heard you the first time!'' Amala said and rolled her eyes. She opened her bag and kept the medicine before turning to leave and saw Leo.
''See you soon, Amala.'' Dr. Ralph said and touched Amala's hair affectionately before turning to go to his office.
When Leo saw this, he frowned and looked at them suspiciously. Amala ignored him and walked away and he followed her.
''Who is that?'' Leo asked and Amala turned to look at him.
''None of your business!''
''He is a doctor in this hospital. How do you know him?'' Leo continued to ask.
''Are you done asking? What does it have to do with you? Mind your own business.''
''I will tell Jolene that I saw you chatting with a doctor.''
''Go and do that. Why are you not running off? Do you need me to borrow you my legs? What kind of man are you? You are such a gossip!'' Amala said and walked away.
Leo looked at her and turned towards Erica's ward.
…..
Amala looked at the phone when it vibrated. She saw a message from Jolene and opened it.
''Where are you? I'm worried about you, Amala!''
After reading the message, Amala left it on read and walked to the roadside to get a taxi. She hailed one and got in.
''Take me to the nearest café around.'' Amala said to the driver.
''Yes, Miss!''
….
MUSE FLATS.
Jolene looked at the phone and sighed. ''She is not replying to my messages. I hope she is alright?'' Jolene said worriedly.
''Jolene, you really went too far yesterday. Now you know it wasn't Amala's fault.'' Rosa said.
''I know… I've probably lost every chance I had in making up with Amala. I hurt her and she hates me.'' Jolene said down and sighed. ''There is another issue that you don't know about. Kai knows about Erica and he wants to talk tonight!''
'What? Then… what are you going to do? I mean Erica is his child and you…''
'I don't know. I just feel that my world is crumbling down. Everything… nothing is working in my favour. First Kai, now Amala.''
''First you two need to resolve the matter of that night. You need to tell him why you did that.''
''I'm afraid, Rosa. What if he…''
''There is no what ifs. You went to look for him when you found out you were pregnant but his house was locked up. You tried reaching out but he wasn't there. You both have a responsibility to play in this matter.'' Rosa said and Jolene sighed.
…..
Jolene stood up when the door opened. She rushed forward and smiled awkwardly at Amala. ''You are back? I was waiting for you.''
Amala looked at Jolene and replied awkwardly. ''Yes, I'm back!''
''I prepared your favourite bone soup. I will heat it up for you to drink. Go in and wash-up first.'' Jolene said when Amala walked to the hall.
''No need. I ate outside!'' Amala said.
''Can't you drink even small? I went all the way to the local market and spent a lot of hours steaming the bones before cooking the broth. It taste really good.''
''No! thank you but you shouldn't have done it without asking me first.''
''I sent you a message… you left me on read.''
''I ran out of bundle, that's why I left you on read. As for the other messages, I didn't see them because I didn't have internet.''
''Right! I knew there was something wrong. You would never leave me on read, right?''
''I wanted to and it so happened that I ran out of bundle so it saved me the trouble.''
Jolene's smile froze when she heard Amala's words. She sighed and nodded her head. ''I see. You must be tired. Go in and sleep. I will pour the soup away since you don't want it.'' Jolene turned towards the kitchen.
''This is so frustrating.'' Amala muttered and walked towards her room.
''But Amala…'' Jolene turned to look at her. ''I am really sad tonight!''
Amala turned to look at her and saw Jolene's tears. She sighed and walked closer. ''Why are you crying?'' Amala asked.
''Kai found out about Erica and wants to be a part of her life. I will meet with him in a few minutes time to talk about it. I'm really scared that he might take Erica from me.''
Amala sighed and walked over. "I doubt he would take Erica away from you. Kai is a good man!''
''I don't know, I just feel…''
Amala gave Jolene a hug saying. 'You might be a bad sister but you are a good mother to Erica. I don't know what he has to say but Erica is my niece, so I won't let him bully you''
''Thank you, Amala. This means a lot to me.'' Jolene wrapped her arms around Amala tightly and asked.
''Then, will you drink the soup. Even if it's a spoonful?''
''You can reheat it. I will take it after showering.'' Amala said and turned towards her room.
''Amala….'' Jolene called when Amala got to the door. She turned and looked at her. ''I will work hard to be a good sister. I will do whatever it takes to make you trust and have faith in me. I will protect you!''
''I'll be waiting to see how that goes.'' Amala said and went into her room.
Jolene smiled and quickly hurried to take the soup from the fridge.
….
''How does it taste?'' Jolene asked, as if expecting something from Amala.
''Well… it isn't bad!'' Amala said as she drunk the soup.
The sister pair turned their heads towards the door when they heard a knock.
''Are you expecting someone?'' Amala asked.
''No! Eat, I will check who is there!'' Jolene said and stood up.
Amala turned to look at the door curiously. After a while, Jolene entered the hall with Kai.
''Look who is here?'' Amala placed the spoon down and stood up.
''Amala, how are you doing? I didn't see you the whole day.''
