''Why do I find that hard to believe? You are not staying back because of the CEO, right?'' Carine asked.
''What do you take me for?'' Kathy glared at Carine.
''JoJo, see you tomorrow.'' Carine said and walked out with Ernest and the others.
Now it was just Jolene and Kathy.
''You really thought I meant that apology, right?'' Kathy asked and looked at Jolene.
''No, I didn't. I know you too well to think you would be sincere.'' Jolene replied.
Kathy looked at Jolene and let out a sarcastic chuckle. She found Jolene very annoying. She had always being jealous of Jolene. They came into the company at the same time, but Jolene seemed to be the one everyone liked. As for her, no one wanted to be her friend.
''What is the attitude with you Jolene? Why do I always have to be the bad one? I'm talking to you!'' after not getting a response from Jolene, Kathy stood up angrily and went over to Jolene's desk. She pushed the files on the table on the floor.
''Are you out of your mind?'' Jolene asked and stood up to face her.
''You are finally looking at me? You are always looking down on me, Jolene.''
''Kathy, I don't know what you are talking about. What makes you think I am looking down on you?'' Jolene really didn't understand Kathy's hostility towards her. It had always being like this… since they joined the company.
''You look down on me. You think I am disgusting and desperate. I see the way you look at me, Jolene. But, no matter how disgusting I am, I don't think you have the right to judge me. You are no better than me. You were busy playing in high school and got pregnant. I bet you don't even know who the father of your kid is. Does your daughter know this?''
Jolene sighed. She had had enough of this brat. ''Hey, pick the files from the floor while I am being nice, before I beat you up.''
''Beat me? I am so scared, Jolene.'' Kathy said and laughed.
Jolene stepped closer and kicked Kathy's leg and she lost her balance and fell down. ''Since you can't get down to pick the papers, I should help you.''
''What have you done, Jolene? I…'' Kathy's voice suddenly turned meek. ''Jolene, I just wanted to apologize to you for my behaviour this morning. Did you have to be this hostile towards me?''
''What?'' Jolene looked confused.
''I'm really sorry for making you angry. If I had known then I would not have angered you.'' Kathy stood up and stepped back like a timid cat.
''What is going on here?'' Kai walked over and asked.
''Nothing Sir. I made a mistake and senior Jolene is reprimanding me. We might have come into the company around the same time but she is still my senior since she is older than me.'' Kathy said softly.
''You surely know how to act.'' Jolene looked at Kathy and chuckled.
''Is all my fault Sir, please don't blame Jolene.''
''Are you not going home?'' Kai asked.
''I will go sir. I was just about to leave…'' Kathy replied.
''I wasn't talking to you!'' Kai said and Jolene looked at him.
''I will go after putting these documents back.'' Jolene replied and turned to pick the documents on the floor.
''Shouldn't the one who did it be the one to clean it up?'' Kai turned to look at Kathy she froze. Kai walked closer and picked up Jolene's bag and said to her. ''Go!''
Jolene took the bag and nodded. ''Oh… I will be on my way.''
''Put everything back in order, Miss Kathy.''
''I… I will put them back.'' Kathy stuttered.
Kai turned and left the office. When he got outside, he saw Jolene driving out of the premises in her car.
MUSE FLATS.
The taxi pulled over and Amala got down. She looked at the address in her phone and compared it with the location and muttered. ''Looks like she is living well after abandoning me!''
Amala was about to go inside when she heard the sound of a car approaching and turned. She saw Jolene getting out of the car with a little girl.
Jolene picked her bag and looked at the girl standing at the entrance with a strange gaze. Her eyes widened when she recognised her.
''Amala?'' Jolene asked and smiled. She rushed over and gave Amala a tight hug. ''Amala, I missed you so much!''
''Don't touch me! I hate being touched by strangers.'' Amala said and pushed Jolene back.
''Amala… you'' Jolene was taken aback by the coldness in Amala's eyes. She looked different.
''Mummy, who is she?'' Erica looked at Amala and asked.
''Erica, this is Amala, my sister.'' Jolene said excitedly.
'She is my aunt?''
'Yes, she is your little aunt. Amala, let's go in and talk…'' Jolene tried to take Amala's luggage and she stepped back.
'I can handle my own things.'' Amala said and started walking towards the door.
'Let's go, Erica.'' Jolene held Erica's hand and they went inside.
Jolene placed a glass of water on the table and said to Amala, 'here, drink some water.''
Amala picked the glass up and drunk the water. She placed it back without saying a word to Jolene.
''So, tell me. How did you find me?'' Jolene asked.
''Can we talk tomorrow? I'm tired from the long journey!'' Amala said and stood up. She looked at the rooms and asked, ''which one is my room? Don't tell me you didn't even prepare a room in case I ever… come?'' Amala asked indifferently.
Jolene stood up and said to Amala awkwardly. ''Let me show you to your room.''
''Thanks!''
After showing Amala to the guestroom, Jolene came out and made a call to her mother. She had being in contact with her mother after leaving.
''Mum, yes. Amala is here. Don't worry, I will take care of her.'' Jolene hung up and went to the hall.
''Mummy, why is she so cold towards you? Doesn't she like us?'' Erica asked when Jolene returned to the hall.
''Aunt must be tired, that's why. Tomorrow, I'm sure she will be fine.'' Jolene said and smiled.
