''Thank you, brother….'' Amala smiled. She stopped midway when she saw Jolene's glare. Amala turned towards a blue car. She stopped and asked. ''I didn't ask which one was your car.''
Kai pressed his key button and the car blinked and Amala nodded. ''I was right!'' She said and went towards the car.
''I… I'm sorry for the inconvenience.'' Jolene apologized.
''When did Amala come?'' Kai asked.
''Last night.''
''Let's go, brown!'' Kai said and went towards the car.
The car was extremely silent. Amala looked at the two at the front seat and asked. ''So, brother… no, I mean Kai, right?''
''Amala, he is not your colleague.'' Jolene warned.
''Which grade are you, Amala?'' Kai asked.
''Grade 12, but I dropped out. School is not really my thing.''
''Are you sure school is not your thing? Maybe you just feel pressured. You are a smart girl, not going to school would be a shame. Don't you think so?''
''I don't know.''
As the two chatted, Jolene became quiet and watched them. She realized that Amala wasn't as hostile towards Kai. Jolene wondered why Amala was hostile towards her and seemed kind towards Kai.
''What do you want to be in future?'' Kai looked at Amala through the mirror and asked.
''Nothing. I doubt if I will live to see my future. I don't have dreams.''
''How about this… if you can rethink your decision I will give you a reward.''
''A reward?''
''Mm! For every minute you spend rethinking your decision, I will give you a reward.''
''Are you trying to motivate me?''
''No. I want you to motivate yourself and get rewarded for it.''
''Sounds like fun! But… what kind of reward would you give me? You are the owner of the company, so you must have a lot of money, right?'' Amala asked.
''Yes, I have a lot of money. But I am not the owner of the company. It belongs to my cousin and I am just here to make it grow. I have a deadline.''
''If you are not able to make it grow, what will happen to the company then?''
''We will have to sell it.''
''That means Jolene would lose her job, right?''
''We can't have that.''
''Is that true?'' Jolene turned and asked.
Kai smiled and nodded his head but didn't bother to explain further.
Kai pulled over in front of Rosa's apartment and Jolene turned to look at Amala.
''This is Rosa's place. She is home; I told her you would be coming over so she is expecting you. I will pick you up when I close from work.''
''Okay!'' Amala replied and got down from the car. She lowered her body and said to Kai. ''I will be waiting for my reward.''
''Make sure you work hard!'' Kai said before driving off.
Amala looked at the apartment and sighed. She walked to the door and knocked. A few seconds later, the door opened and Amala saw the boy she met at the store earlier on.
''You again?'' Amala asked.
''You?'' The boy looked at Amala and asked. ''Are you at the wrong place?''
''Leo, who is at the door?'' Rosa asked and walked over. ''Oh, Amala?''
''Second elder sister, it's been a while.'' Amala replied.
''Amala…'' Rosa gave Amala a hug and kissed her cheeks. ''Look at you, so grown and beautiful. I missed you so much.''
''Can I come in?'' Amala asked.
''Sorry, come in.'' Rosa held Amala's hand and they went in leaving Leo. He closed the door and followed them inside.
''Elder cousin, who is she?'' Leo asked.
''Who is he, second elder sister?'' Amala also asked.
''You two… do you know each other from somewhere?'' Rosa asked.
''No!'' Amala replied.
''Yes, we met this morning.'' Leo also replied.
''Yes and no, which is which?''
''She is the girl I told you about. I showed her kindness and she paid me back with ungratefulness.''
''Hey! I didn't ask you to pay for my drink. Shouldn't you have asked before batting in? I had the money to pay for my own stuff but you wanted to show off.''
''I wasn't showing off. I was just trying to be of help.''
''I didn't ask for your help. Did I look like I needed you to save me? If the woman didn't have change, I would have left the drink there. Why did you have to bat in and play the hero.''
''Why do I feel that you have a twisted mind when it comes to people showing you their kindness?''
''Yes, I have a twisted mind and I don't trust people.''
''Cut!'' Rosa put her hand between them. Her eyes were turning dizzy from watching the two of them banter back and forth.
''Sit down, both of you!'' Rosa said.
Amala and Leo glared at each other and sat down. They turned their faces away from each other.
''Let me get this straight. Amala, you went to get a drink from the store but the woman didn't have enough balance to give you because the money you had was a huge note. Then, Leo decided to pay for your drink using his QQ pay?''
''Which I didn't ask for, might I add.'' Amala stated.
''I regretted helping you.'' Leo muttered.
''I get it now. Amala, you are unhappy because you didn't need his help. Leo is unhappy because you didn't appreciate his help. Alright, guys I want you to leave that in the past.''
''Who is she, elder cousin?'' Leo asked.
''This is Amala, Jolene's younger sister. Amala, this is Leo, my cousin.''
''What luck do I have to meet you two times in a day?'' Amala muttered.
''I could say the same about you.'' Leo also muttered.
Rosa looked at them and sighed. 'You two need to make amends.''
'No!'' Amala said.
''Cousin, if she doesn't apologize for being rude then I'm not making amends with her. I hate people like her.''
''That goes for you too. I hate people who think that just because they are helping out, I should be grateful to them.'' Amala stood up and picked her bag. ''Second elder sister, I don't think I can stay here any longer. I would rather go back home and be alone than be in the same space with this boy.''
