Chapter 9 - I HOPE HE CAN KEEP YOU SAFE

"Care to explain?" Nicole queried as they slowly stepped out of the hospital and walked towards the parking lot. Due to panic, she had rushed Rainé to a nearby hospital without uttering a single word. Now that everything was ok, she couldn't let her curiosity linger any longer.

Rainé stared at Nicole with her big blue eyes and blinked attempting to distract her peery friend in order to come up with a lie. She couldn't tell her that a creature in the form of a man in stalking her because just like her mom, Nicole would also think that she was crazy.

"Uhm... it's not important Nic, I just fell and got a bruise, that's all." She replied and looked at the sky, the ground, the birds in the air, she stared at everything except her friend.

With her statement, Nicole scoffed, "Like I'm going to believe you... Then who was the handsome dude who dropped you off?" She immediately grinned and her ocean blue eyes which had a darker tone that Rainé's sparkled with interest which was matched with the blue diamond hairpin that donned her short neck-length onyx hair.

"Uhm... I don't know him Nic." Rainé replied hoping her friend would buy her lie. The last thing she wanted was to start narrating how she met him and she didn't also want to get into trouble with him. She could remember clearly when he said that her ability to see his real appearance was already a problem so revealing about him will only add more problems.

Nicole jabbed Rainé lightly with her elbow. "Come on Rainé, I'm just curious, it's not like I want to steal away your prince charming and it's totally okay to be possessive of him, I totally understand but you shouldn't keep such vital information away from your beautiful, cool and awesome best friend."

Rainé facepalmed herself inwardly. What was she thinking when she picked up such a drama queen as her best friend?

There was a time when Nicole Reyers, the richest kid in school was the talk of the whole school. Despite being rich, she was rumored to be proud and pompous and Rainé being the quiet classmate that no one ever noticed couldn't care less about those rumors.

Just like fate, their paths crossed and Rainé felt a sharp sting in her heart the minute she looked into the deep depths of those ocean blue eyes. She knew that those eyes alone could tell a story, a painful story.

The cold and aloof Nicole was a belle with short hair that reaches above her shoulders, long legs, and spotless fair skin. Her ocean-blue eyes were mesmerizing but even at that, not a single smile ever once graced her plump pink lips.

Rainé could remember the time Nicole first smiled, it was a smile full of heavenly bliss. Wanting to see the girl smile more, she spared no effort in trying to make her see the beauty and optimism of the world.

She made her understand that no matter what life throws at you, your happiness could only lie in your hands. No one is responsible for your happiness except you.

It felt just like yesterday and now the two girls have learned to impact each other positively. The once cold and detached Nicole Reyers has now become the bubbly, charismatic, and over-dramatic best friend she had.

She began to think, was it a crime for changing Nicole's personality because she could swear that this side of her friend was always giving her a headache.

Nicole stopped momentarily in her tracks, she glanced at her friend and a small smile played across her lips before stepping into the car.

"He looked like someone out of this world and he has the same color of hair as me, onyx black... Rainé darling, I feel like we were meant to be together," Nicole teases expecting a little reaction from her friend but what she saw stunned her.

Rainé had her eyes widened as Nicole's words played in her head like a broken tape. 'Onyx black... onyx black... black'

She thought she was mistaken, maybe the events playing on in her life recently has left her half crazy. She wasn't wrong though, anyone in her shoes would go crazy by such happenings. Everything seemed new to her and she was having a hard time registering them all in her head.

"What color of hair did you see Nic." She looked at her friend with a bit of uncertainty in her eyes.

"What do you mean Rainé, You have not gone blind haven't you. He had black hair with a pair of misty grey eyes and when he spoke I saw his fangs. For someone who looks so nonchalant, he sure cares about his appearance. Who knows that a visit to a dentist could get him such amazing looks."

Rainé gulped, aside from seeing his real appearance the good news here was that her friend didn't put much thought into it, she even thought that his fangs were fake, that should be ok, right?

But why could every girl she met today see a different appearance except her and Nicole? She swallowed her questions and stared out of the window. It wasn't her problem anyways.

Nicole looked at her friend and an unnoticeable light flashed across her lips as a small smile rose to her face. "I hope he can keep you safe..." she whispered to herself not loud enough for the girl beside her who was lost in thoughts to hear.
