And he regretted asking her even more when he saw the dress that Dylan picked up for her. When Lili put them on, he didn't want to go anywhere with her.
"I thought I asked you for a simple dress. Not this…" Lili just waved around with her hands, totally speechless. Lei had to agree with her. He looked at Dylan, who just shrugged.
"Don't look at me. I went to the shop and showed them a picture; they gave me those. They said it wouldn't need any adjusting because it was a tight fit." Dylan raised his hands in defense.
Lei looked at Lili again, who just walked out of their room and had to agree with the shop assistant. It really didn't need to be adjusted. They fitted Lili perfectly.
It was a formal dinner, so everyone was expected to wear formal attire. That was the reason Lei now had a suit on, a bit more formal than usual, with some detail suggesting his wealth. But he was still nothing compared to Lili.
She already had her new high heels on, which added like fifteen centimeters to her height, making her legs look longer. And he knew that because the red silk she was wearing had a high slit on the side and whenever she moved, it would reveal her leg.
The dress wasn't revealing much... it had long sleeves from chiffon, with the same gold embroidery and crystals that lined the deep V neckline.
And that was the problem. Lei did not know how that dress managed to stay on her body. He felt that if he pulled them down a bit, it would reveal her navel. And it was backless. Thank god, Lili let her hair fall in waves down her back, otherwise, he would go ballistic.
"I'm not going out in this…" she whispered when looking at herself on her phone. Both Dylan and Lei looked at the time and frowned. They already said she would come. If Lili decided to not go, it would cause some problems.
"But you really look stunning in it," he said and smiled at her. It was true. Her makeup, hair, dresses, accessories — everything matched perfectly with her personality. Her fierce character and untamed spirit.
"I told you to buy a simple dress!" she yelled out and Lei winced. Lili didn't usually yell, but when she did, it was on the border of hurting your ear.
He looked over the dress once again. It looked a bit like a wedding dress, but it wasn't that elaborate.
"It is simpler. It's not as elaborate as your wedding dress," he added, and Lili's mouth fell open. Why didn't he ask her about what she wanted? He was changing into an overbearing CEO she knew very well, but someone like that would only make her free spirit suffer.
"And you didn't discuss it with me because of what?" She put her hands on his hips, accentuating them even more. It was a threatening pose, and Lei chuckled at her stance.
"I haven't talked about it because I have bought none. I thought we have enough time for that." He came closer and took her chin with his thumb and index finger.
"Good," she said but kept staring into Lei's eyes. He wasn't timid, and she knew it, but his character was perfect for her. Lili didn't want him to change at all.
"Lili, I wouldn't do anything without your approval. Or… I wouldn't do something without talking to you about it first," he whispered into her ear. When Dylan saw it, he promptly looked to the side, ignoring them.
"Lei, I will go with you, but you need to promise me one thing," she said after she thought about it. Lei nodded and took a step back to give her some space.
"I need to check my boobs once in a while, that it's not showing anything," she whined and shuffled her chest around a bit. After she was satisfied with the outcome, she raised her head to see the determined Lei.
She didn't even have to say something like that, because he himself was thinking about how to cover her. And how the hell was the dress holding in place?
"I will get you a light coat of mine. I don't want you to be seen for a longer time than it's needed," Lei said and walked to his room to get a light piece of cloth.
"Is it so revealing?" she asked Dylan, worried about her reputation. But he shook his head.
"I see only your cleavage and back. It's nothing slutty. It's just eye-catching with all the gold and diamonds," he shared with her and chuckled. Then he stood up and walked to the door because his phone rang.
Lili felt a huge coat covering her, reaching past her knees. It smelled of Lei, and she loved it. Lili was too small for it, she was floating inside, the sleeves too long. But she didn't care. She sniffled at it as she pulled it closer to her body.
"Li Quan is here," Dylan said and walked out of the door. It was time for him to go to the hospital. Chao was there alone for an hour already, and they feared what he might have done to himself.
They walked together, Lei holding her up because their sidewalk wasn't made for stilettos. And Lili was thankful for that.
Li Quan safely got them to the hotel where the party was happening. They walked hand in hand to the butler waiting at the doors, and Lili gave him her protection coat. She checked her attire once again and nodded at Lei.
"Let's go. Let's do it faster so I can come home and play some games," she whined and then put on a dazzling smile. It was a smile Lei saw only the first time they met. He didn't have to try that. But he admired her even more.
Lei nodded at the butlers, who opened the door for them. And as soon as he did it, all the eyes of all present turned in their direction. Lili hadn't wavered at all. Her smile was the same as before, as she took a step into the lion cage.
