Chapter 42 - home life

I had started to settle back in I wrote a letter to the emperor telling him that the iron empire was about to make a move on the smaller nations and I went back to monitoring several projects.

Specifically I checked on the production of special arrows and construction plans for a few outposts I also hired some craftsmen to make me another staff.

Now I only had to figure out a ranking system in the army and install some things to keep serothor's army strong like weekly training sessions.

But right now I had a family dinner to attend I had been to a few but I'm only really close to my new father since I interact with him quite a bit in making decisions that impact Serothor.

According to Oz he had never been close to Zachary and he had already been confining himself in his room when clair was born.

He was closest with his now deceased grandfather he had a special bond with his mother and grandmother as far as his father goes he has been nothing but spoiled by him.

It made no sense for him to be such a recluse so I decided to ask him myself.

"Hey I always wondered why did you seclude yourself if your family is this supportive?"

I heard him let out a long sigh before he replied.

"When I was 6 years old I had an accident I fell off Serothor's castle walls and was in a coma for two years in that time my mind replayed everything I ever learnt from the basic summoning spells of my grandfather and the fortune telling of my grandmother.

Turns out once you see something enough you pick it up and when I woke up I kept seeing dark omens that got stronger as I got older so I got a bit... paranoid and a few years later summoned you"

There was a few things that stood out in what he just said so I asked some questions.

"I have a few questions firstly our grandmother can foresee the future? secondly if you can why the hell did I go through so much to get this bloodline? thirdly are you insane you summoned an otherworldly being because you were paranoid?"

Oz replied.

"No our grandmother can't see the future neither can I we can only see good and bad omens and now I look back on it I was not in the right mind anyway don't we have a dinner to attend?"

I nodded and walked to the dining hall and sat in my spot which hadn't changed I still sat next to my sister Clair and across from Zachary.

We started eating and my mother spoke.

"so Zeth how was the imperial capital?"

I swallowed what I was eating and replied.

"It was okay but I prefer Serothor, the Twilight Citadel has walls that are far too tall and block out the sun they also have horrible drainage so Serothor smells much better"

My grandmother chuckled and my brother spoke.

"so did you buy us any gifts?"

Suddenly my mind went blank I don't know why I didn't think to buy them any gifts on my travels but I spoke trying to appear organised.

"Of course I arranged for Serothor to receive some ironbark saplings, a labour force for the construction of a road and several other alliences and deals but if you want anything specific you must ask my dear brother"

The table was silent and my father spoke.

"Haha it looks like you brought back smart-arseyness from the citadel earlier this year you would have never spoken to Zachary like that"

I decided to speak.

"Well ever since I got the power to see the future all of you have been nothing but believing and supportive I think it would be cruel to not speak with you all this"

My mother spoke.

"Well actually your grandmother had been complaining about bad omens for a while so it wasn't that big of a deal to believe you what is more surprising is your military prowess"

Actually thinking back on it even i am surprised about it, training that many people, designing weapons and strategies even if I had some inspiration that takes something maybe I was actually gifted in it?

It is not implausible I never really went Into the military before I came here so obviously I wouldn't notice any nack for it so I replied.

"Well your son here is a genius and it isn't like I ever tried this type of thing before so even if I had talent in it no one would know"

This type of conversation went on until everyone had finished their dinner and my grandmother spoke to Clair.

"Clair dear didn't you have something you wanted to ask Zeth?"

She had a look of momentary shock but then cleared her throat and spoke.

"Brother Zeth I ask of you to teach me the ways of battle"

I looked at her she was no older then 10 years old her arms were thin and she looked as pale as a sheet of paper but the unbridled eagerness and expecting look in her in her eyes hit a soft spot I didn't know I had.

She wanted an answer so I gave her one.

"Sure but I'm not letting you on the battlefield until you can beat me, Elise and Kyle in a spar your lessons would start tomorrow also just so you know I'm not the best fighter I'm more of a strategist"

She spoke as soon as I finished my sentence.

"Deal!"
