Chapter 43 - lesson and organisation

Today would be my first day teaching Clair some basics mostly because basics is all I know I wasn't going to teach her anything too complex just spar her a couple times and teach her a simple spell.

The sun was out and only partly obscured by the clouds the air was crisp with a late autumn chill and then clair came out onto the training grounds.

She wore her horse riding pants which are the only pair of pants she owns along with a white blouse and black jacket and her shoes were an old pair of boots.

We had to scramble to find clothes that were fit for training and getting dirty, is as expected of a princess she had mountains of dresses and dress shoes but she was lacking in everything else.

I took her to the weapon stand everything was there for short blades to bows and arrows there was even a greatsword.

Last night my father ordered a few weapons be brought here but from the looks of it he didn't specify the size of the wielder.

Clair was tall for her age and I was short so she came up to the top of my chest but she was still a prepubescent girl so the size difference was pretty big and a large weapon would be very difficult for her to use.

I nearly choked when I saw her choice it was a Naginata well here it might be a slightly unique glaive but nonetheless that was a Naginata.

The pole was her height so it was shorter than a normal adult and the blade was half a metre long and there was a guard between the blade and the pole and a metal cap on the other end.

Oddly enough it was the perfect weapon to make up for the size and strength difference so I asked her a question.

"Clair how did you choose that weapon?"

She slightly tilted her head and spoke.

"Well I need the reach to be able to safely hit you and thrusting a spear seems harder than slashing down plus you use a staff/spear, Elise uses short blades and kyle uses a sword this seems like the best choice to beat you all"

I was actually a bit scared it wasn't random or instincts she thought everything through with logic and thought which makes her incredibly terrifying considering I just use brute force to get better at or learn something.

I made her stand away from me then I spoke.

"Okay these are the rules don't strike to injure or kill today we just want to get you used to your weapon of choice and the feeling of it in your hands head, groin, hands and neck hits are banned we start on my count.

3 2 1!"

We have armour on just to be careful and I am using my old trusty broomstick my new warstaff wouldn't be ready for a couple days so this was the best I had.

She got into a side on defensive stance with the Naginata pointed towards me so I decided to attack first it wasn't like me to be offensive with my staff straight away but I had to test her and she looked determined to stay in that position.

I went for a simple strike towards her body she stepped back and she parried the strike with the blade end of her weapon.

But then she slashed towards my legs forcing me to step back that was most certainly not something a beginner should be able to do.

She stepped forward and the blade was coming straight down towards my inner shoulder but I was able to safely side step it.

She might be scary but I could still tell she was a beginner because when she attacks she completely forgets her foot work and despite aiming at the right places her control is horrible.

When she went for another strike towards my neck I grabbed her weapon and stepped forward putting the tip of the wooden staff on her forehead.

she looked shocked and I spoke.

"That was great you have some natural talent I will give you some proper feedback later but for now go have a bath and get changed we are done sparing today tomorrow I will tell you some defense strategies I've come up with"

She looked disappointed to stop but walked off without a fuss it amazes me how terrified I can be of a girl so young a few lessons and she will basically be able to fight at my level minus the aura.

I plan to teach her how to activate her aura when she beats me, kyle and Elise as a reward it's actually kind of mean because we all have aura so she is at an extreme disadvantage.

I took a bath and started my official planning time first I sent a letter to my father detailing my plans for Serothor's mandatory army training.

In the future I plan to install laws around mandatory army training from ten years old and keep an active force and a reserve militia that way Serothor will always be capable of defending itself.

But for now I have settled for a royal decree that the reserve forces of Serothor have a mandatory training day twice a fortnight for two days in a row.

I also came up with a ranking system so our army will work better.

[1st. monarch- has the highest authority.

2nd. general- the day to day and wartime leader of the army.

3rd. commanders- up to three people can be commanders they are incharge of managing different sections of the army and advising the general.

4th. sergeants- as many as needed they are incharge of commanding multiple squads of soldiers.

5th. squad leaders- they are the leaders of a group of soldiers between 5-50 members.

6th. 1st class soldier- highest ranking soldier without any leadership responsibilities.

7th. 2nd class soldier- professional soldiers (full time).

8th. 3rd class soldier- reserve force (part time)]

It wasn't perfect and it will be added to and refined later on but for Serothor's current situation it would have to work.

When I finally took my eyes off my desk and looked outside I saw something white touch the window then another and I realised that it was snowing.
