Chapter 1 - Excerpt

Phoebe drew up her extremely long red wedding gown that glittered every time she moved under the beautiful lights, enveloping the room.

She turned to stare at the tail of her gown to make sure it wasn't going to collide with the beautiful fragile flower vases, placed along the corridors when she would start to move.

Giving a nod of approval and then a sigh, Phoebe pulled the long red gown which obediently moved in sync with her to step out of the room.

It was strange she was getting married in a red gown but her soon-to-be mother-in-law had assured her with some 'it was culture demands' quotes and had her forced into the exquisite gown that she had personally ordered and designed for her. She could characterize her as a nice woman.

Stepping out of the room, she made her way to the kitchen to get some food; because she was damn starving. She had been fasting for days all in the name of maintaining the traditions from where the groom had come from and that also felt odd to her. No, this wasn't odd, at least she could try to wrap her head over this because lots of people would do such to attract blessings from whatever they believed in, but also to get married in the twilight, waiting for a full moon which was claimed to be an auspicious hour, does entirely sounds extremely unusual to her. And there was no way she was going to try to wrap her head around that sooner and as for now, she was going to eat. To hell with the groom's tradition. To hell with the stupid fasting. She was going to consume something and that was final. She wouldn't dare risk her health system all in the name of fasting to attract the blessing of whatever name was mentioned.

Phoebe made her way down the stairs as gently as she could. She made sure she had her home slippers thrown away from her feet before attempting to flee the room to the kitchen. When she was at the last stair that would lead to the corridor, going over to the kitchen when she saw something she wouldn't expect to happen to her again.

Her groom was making love with a half-naked woman who had revealed her entire breasts, placing her hands around his neck while he pushed further into her. Their groans and pounding of flesh were being heard across the corridor.

Freezing in her footsteps, she felt the world halt and she wanted to scream.

She wanted to cry but she wouldn't, after all she wasn't marrying him out of love. She was getting married to get a better life for her poor and dying mother but he would have kept the slightest respect for her on their wedding day. She felt her heart shrink and tears brimmed in her eyes.

Trying to pull herself together so she would leave quietly without their attention, so she could head back to her room, she felt herself stagger and trying to steady herself, her hand moved on its own, mistakenly moving off a fragile statue from its stand and breaking it into pieces, which finally drew the undesirable attention to her.

With hands over her mouth and wide eyes, she saw her groom slowly turn to look at her with irritated red eyes and lips dripping with blood. She almost tripped when she tried to move back in shock.

When someone was infuriated, the eyes tend to turn red because they were boiling out of rage, right?

But not this type of reddish eyes, right? And the dripping lips with red liquid? It wasn't blood, right? Did he have some red wine before making out with this woman? But she could already see the woman's neck was dripping in blood and her eyes were red too.

They were- - - were- -, She was- - she was not - - - she was not getting married to a human. Her brain was moving in a zig-zag pattern.

She tried to wrap her head around the scene. "Oh merciful God!!". Phoebe gasped in further shock, she was about to pass out.

Not wanting to let her brain process more thoughts and conclusions and not wanting to pass out in the presence of these blood-sucking creatures, she felt the adrenaline kick in as she felt her legs move on their own, heading to the front door for her dear life.

She wouldn't want anything more than to escape from these monsters.
