Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Serene's POV

Location: Fae Realm

(Welcome to all the readers, thank you for choosing to read my book. It's a story with lots of twists, so let's take this journey with Serene and see what hardships she faces as embarks on this journey.)

The pattering of the rain on my window pane woke me up. I slowly opened my eyes and gazed at the clock, it was already late from the time I usually woke up. I still had no intention of getting out of bed. I just laid there under my comfy duvet and thought about the life I would have at my new institute and how I had to literally beg my father for permission to let me attend it.

Being a fairy and only daughter, he wanted me to attend the "Fairy Enchantment Institute" which was located in our realm. But, it had always been my dream to attend the "Universal Institute of Magical Beings" located in the Haxum Realm. It was headed by the most powerful warlock of our time, Alexis Drugh. Since Fae and Haxum folks didn't get along and my father and Alexis didn't see eye to eye. It took me a long time to persuade my father to let me attend.

My father wasn't very fond of witches and warlocks. He always found them cunning and deceptive, therefore, he couldn't comprehend why I was so adamant to go. Why couldn't I just attend Fairy Enchantment Institute like a regular fairy? So, I reminded him that I was the sole daughter of the Fae King; Eradius Zohan of the Fae realm and one day I will be taking his place as the fairy queen.

Therefore, I needed to be prepared in the ways of all realms. I needed to understand and learn the strengths and weaknesses of all the magical beings that existed. And, the only way to do that was to study and train with them. If I never went out of my realm I would never get the exposure I needed to become a successful queen. Plus, I hated the biased attitude which existed among the different realms and how our prejudices against each other stopped us from trusting each other or working together.

Since the passing of my mother a few years ago, my father had become overprotective of me. But I reminded him that I will never learn to fly if I won't leave the nest. It took a whole week of persuasion, begging and some threats from my grandmother, but finally my father agreed to let me go.

The age limit to attend the academy is 18, and my 18th birthday is next month. Soon, I will be leaving on a new adventure. As I lay there reminiscing, a voice calling my name jolted me back to reality.

"Wake up, sleepy head," shouted Zian. Poking his big head through the partially open door of my capacious room.

Zian was my best friend, advisor, and my go-to person. He had the same height as me which was about 5'7. I nicknamed him 'shortie Fae'.

He had intelligent green eyes and straight long brown hair, which fell to his shoulders. He was slender in build and his wings were green which complimented his eyes, indicating he was a nature Fae.

He had an amiable nature, a smiling face which hardly ever showed anger and a pleasing personality. He always had a joke up his sleeve and was popular among the fairies. Every time we would meet he would be in love with a new fairy. Although he always insisted this was his true love.

A naughty smile was playing on his face as he looked at me with his big green eyes.

I sighed and told him to come in. I knew he was here to tell me about a new love interest. Or some gossip he heard.

"Finally, you are up. I have been waiting for so long to tell you..." I cut him short by glaring at him.

" Ok, ok I will wait. Don't kill me with looks Serene Zohan. Freshen up first," he quickly replied seeing my expression.

I got out of bed and headed for my bathroom. Once I washed my face, brushed my teeth, combed my hair and changed my nightdress. I felt much better and presentable.

I headed out where Zian was eagerly waiting to tell me something he was excited about.

As soon as he saw me, his eyes flashed with excitement. "You won't believe what happened," he blurted out excitedly.

"Hmm, let me guess, you met a beautiful fairy who captured your heart," I responded without surprise.

He smiled sheepishly at me and said: "You know me so well but what can I do? Female species have been endowed with so much beauty and I can't help but praise it. Now and then my heart gets captured by someone, and I can't help it."

I couldn't help but smile at his innocent answer. He was so different from me in this aspect. He never hid his feelings and always was ready to give away his heart on a silver platter, no matter how many times he got accepted or rejected.

I, on the other hand, had never found anyone who had captured my heart so far, although the Fae kind has been bestowed with great beauty. We came in every colour ranging from fair to tan to brown to black. We had extremely sharp features, big eyes which always complimented our wing colour, and smooth skin. We were mostly tall and lean; unlike Werewolves, we weren't muscular but we had strong magic.

Yet, I never found a perfect match for myself. Everyone thought I was arrogant because I didn't show interest in the opposite sex. But it wasn't my primary goal. I wanted to learn about the other realms, make friends with other species and learn new magical powers. And with my admission to UIMB, I was very close to achieving my goal.

"I want you to meet her," Zian's cheerful voice brought me back to reality.

"Of course, but let me get some breakfast first and then we can head over to our usual spot in the forest and you can bring her," I told him as we got up to head down to the dining room of my castle.
