'And there it was, the tiny scratch I needed' Alex thought to himself. His confidence was brewed with hands on his waist.
Alex had been wondering why the people from the lab had not attempted anything with the wolf that had escaped.
To some extent, he had doubted the intelligence of whoever ran the whole organization, but the person proved him wrong. He fell right into his tiny trap unknowingly.
With or without action from that side, he was going to make the move, but the man sitting there wasn't stupid after all since he raised a little light.
"The nerve" Malia spoke first and everyone turned to look at her. Alex was proud just looking at the stance she had taken. She looked angry, but he found it admirable
When everyone turned to look at her, she thought it wise to elaborate, "So, if they take the animal back, will they continue torturing it? Why are they after it?"
"More like they want to cover their tracks. Too bad for them though, it hasn't rained much these past few days"
The first statement made sense to Malia, but the rest sounded more mysterious. Anyway, it wasn't any of her business. She was glad because the bad people didn't succeed.
The bold heading on the screen read "SHOOTING AT THE ANIMAL RESCUE CENTRE" According to the news reporter, the center was broken into at around 2:00 am with the intent of taking the wounded wolf with them.
They were stopped by the security guards that had been hidden around the area. Apparently, even the government was expecting such a turn of events.
After the news ended and the tv was turned off, everyone returned to the dining to have breakfast.
After breakfast, Malia chatted with Amber while the gents went into the study room for an impromptu meeting.
"So, how was your dinner with Mr. Ford?" Amber asked
The question made Malia smile and blush at the same time "It was beautiful"
Amber still looked at her expectantly and Malia asked her "What"
"What do you mean, it was beautiful, I need all the tea girl" Amber spoke expectantly making Malia burst out into a fit of giggles.
Her little giggles made Amber smile; she was happy for Malia and she deserved every good thing that is happening in her life at the moment.
Malia described to Amber how wonderful her date was with Mr. Ford, leaving the part where they almost kissed out.
"Do you like him?" Amber genuinely asked
She wanted to know how Malia felt about Mr. Ford. It was early to know, but the sooner the best because of the way things were going. Something big seemed to be coming.
"Amber, No, it's not like that. Have you seen Mr. Ford? He is way out of my league" Malia responded with a little sadness sliding in.
"What do you mean by out of your league? Yes, I have seen Mr. Ford, but I have seen you too, my love" She spoke and placed her palm on Malia's cheeks
Malia knew that Amber was trying to make her feel better, but she knew her worth and the distance between her and the man. Yes, the sight of him, made her giddy and excited, and his little touch made her feel the weirdest things, but it was just that. Nothing more.
Malia had stopped expecting much for as long as she can remember because the less she expected, the less she got hurt.
She remembered when her aunt and uncle had come to take her from the orphanage, she was happy and excited to finally live a beautiful life, but the pot broke at the doorway of her uncle's home.
The same thing happened when she was taken to the orphanage to live with the other children; she was happy to leave her father behind, but she didn't get to smile as much. She instead cried more, along with it came trauma from what she had seen.
Amber saw Malia's downcast look and knew that her ghosts had come to play again. She didn't know much about what haunted Malia's life, and she was willing to give her all the time and space that she needed.
When she is ready to open up and let it out, she would be here to provide her shoulders as support with the hope that her girl would find healing.
"There is something that I want you to know, Malia," Amber turned to her with a serious look and held her hands. "You are one special human to me, and I believe that Mr. Ford can see it too. And if he doesn't, it's not your fault, but his loss"
Amber stopped and looked at Malia with a smile only to see her smile back with tears in her eyes. "I didn't need to look twice or to be told twice, for me to know that you are a special person. So, don't weigh your value or importance on how people view you, ok?"
More tears ran down Malia's cheeks and she nodded her head in understanding "Thank you, Amber. Thank you, so much for everything. Your soul is beautiful" The two girls hugged each other, and were both crying.
Alex, who was in the study felt his mate's emotional change and came out to check on her. He found them hugging and Malia's face was visible to him; he could see the tears. He went to where she was and knelt down next to her.
"Hey, baby, what is wrong?" Seeing her tears turned something within him and he had the urge to hug her. When she shook her head no, he felt more bothered.
Without caring an ounce about anyone in the room, he lifted her like her baby. Her legs were on either side of his waist, and her arms wrapped around his neck. "It's ok, babe"
He took her up to his room and then placed her on the bed. He then resumed the exact position of kneeling down next to her feet, his hands on the side of his hips.
"Tell me, what is bothering you?" He wanted her to open up to him freely.
The position they were currently in made Malia's heart beat faster. She wanted his lips on hers so bad, but her insecurities kicked in. She shook her head no, but she had underestimated Alex. He looked at her expectantly as if he wouldn't give up till she told him something
"I...I...mhmm" Alex couldn't stand it anymore, and he kissed her. Sparks flew between the two of them. It felt right at that moment for both of them.
Alex sat down and then pulled her to sit on his lap. She straddled him and he pulled her closer and held her tight by the waist.
