At Light town, darkness was hanging over a specific building as a storm brewed inside. After the failed attempt at breaking the wolf from the animal rescue center, the X4 was feeling the pressure.
"What happened, can someone elaborate?" Lambert asked
He had returned as per the boss' orders to handle the retrieval mission, but as it turns out, nothing worked according to what he had planned.
"It seems like they were expecting us to come by," Stated the only surviving man from the mission.
The X4 had sent five of their best men with the hope that they would be as swift as possible in order to eliminate any possible evidence remaining. As it stands, the police not only had two of their men and two dead, but the smoke was started.
Lambert believed that the police will soon start to snoop around in search of the fire if they haven't started yet.
"How prepared were they?" Lambert questioned the survivor
"It's not about them being prepared, it's how agile and skilled they were, but why would an animal rescue center need tight security for?" The man asked back
The questioning didn't sit well with Lambert, but it made more sense. If the police were suspicious, it meant that they could trace the footsteps.
"Did anyone follow you?" He had to cut off any traces that could lead the police to them.
Lambert turned to look at his man, wondering how he had come out alive despite the skill of the men as he had described. Could it be that he was left as mercy and away to send a warning to them?
The thought angered Lambert because he believed that no fighter stood above the X4. He needed to call the boss so they could dilute the problem.
Inside the office, Lambert made a call to the big boss and put it on speaker. The phone rang and a mocking voice was heard from the other end of the phone.
"I see, you still have the guts to call me" taunted the voice from the other end.
Lambert didn't like the sound of that but he deserved it for failing to return with the wolf. He just didn't appreciate the tone that the boss was using on him. He wasn't some little boy to be scolded over a mission.
The boss asked for a full report on the failed mission, and Lambert decided to call in Tom since he was the only one that returned from the five that had been sent.
Tom came into the office and started to recollect and narrate everything to their boss, but unknown to him, there was a tiny little cut on his black leather jacket.
That one cut harbored something that no one in the lab could have expected. The previous night when the mission was happening, all the men sent by the X4 could have been killed, but one was left alive.
Lambert found it suspicious but didn't dwell on it since the detector at the main entrance made no noise.
After killing two men and deciding to hand two to the police, one of the men hand made a small cut in Tom's jacket and slipped something inside.
And because it could easily get into the building without being detected, it meant that they could access every conversation, camera, and computer.
It was all that Arnold needed and thanks to the X4, it was handed to him on a silver platter. He was smiling as he listened to the conversation with the mysterious boss.
The man seemed to have some serious hate towards the wolves and he wasn't afraid to go heads-on with them. It was that serious.
