Chereads / The Alpha's Dead Mate / Chapter 18 - 19

Chapter 18 - 19

The first time Ian saw Adam was as a terrible wounded teenager. Ian was ten at the time, and he lived with his father on the outskirts of the forest in a small human town that was closer to the city. He saw the bleeding boy that laid on the cold floor in their small room. Ian remembered being upset seeing Adam's bloody staining the neat floors he had just washed. His father treated Adam's wounds, fed and took care of him for days. As Adam healed gradually, he was at to tell the hunter where he lived.

Back at the mansion, Alicma mourned her dead son and husband. The next day, news had reached her that her son, Adam was spotted by a stranger. Her son was brought back to her, but the over-joyous mother didn't get the chance to meet her son's saviour. She sent men to find his house, according to how Adam had described to them, and invite him to their mansion again.

However, when they finally found his house, the man had been killed by some wolves, and his young son knelt over him sobbing sorrowfully. They took Ian back to the palace, informing Alicma of what had happened. Young Ian was taken care of, and made to live in the mansion. The members of the Colven pack never armed humans, as that was a tradition they maintained, hence, the humans boy could grow up safely in the midst of wolves.

Adam and Ian grew very close, but Alicma sent Ian to a school in the city, that much she could do to ensure that the boy didn't get robbed of his dreams, by living with them. Adam however, studied in a special university, one for lycanthropes. The young handsome and sophisticated young man was a successful actor, who was known for having most of his novels themed around were wolves.

Not quite long after he had spoken with Adam, his car drive into the compound. He got out of the car quickly and jogged up the porch, meeting Ian. He met a "you-have-a-lot-to-explain" look on Ian's face, Adam knew there was no way he would like his way out of it.

They both got into the house. Sarah was standing in front of the door, not knowing what exactly she was to do. Run? Or stay still? Adam dropped the plastic bag he had come in with on the far and sat in the couch. Ian's eye's obviously demanded answers. Sarah had no idea what the eye movements they both made at each other meant, so she walked away from their sight.

"Who is she?"

Adam bowed his head in frustration.

"You never bring your women to your house, do I know there's a different story to her being here. Are you feeling her hostage?" Ian questioned resolutely.

The alpha slouched tiredly on the couch and sighed, not knowing how Ian was going to react if he told her who Sarah was. He didn't want to lie about her identity to him either, because, honestly, there was no point in doing that now.

"She's my luna," he broke the news.

"What?" Ian screeched in astonishment, his mouth was wide open, struggling to close up again.

"Stop overreacting."

"Oh hell yeah I'm going to over react! Isn't she meant to be dead? The priest said she was. How did you find her? Where?"

"Take it easy with the questions, man. That's not even the entire bombshell."

Ian chuckled anxiously, wondering what more shocker there could be asides what he had just heard.

"Isn't this a great news though, your mate is still alive. She's freaking hot too, totally your type. That's sick!" Ian was happy in his seat, but Adam's visage was nowhere near that.

"What's with the face?" he asked Adam.

"I can't be with her though. I'll have to find a way to get rid of her later. For now I have to keep her here since she might be a threat to the humans."

"I don't understand what you're saying. Can you stop talking in circles already? Why would she be a threat to humans? She's a wolf...or is she not?"

"She's not human…"

"Then what?"

Ian gasped with his hands to his mouth, "Is she from the enemy pack? That would be a disaster if she is." He searched Adam's face to see if he was right, but that didn't seem to be it.

"Come on! I'm getting sick of this suspense. Tell me already!"

"Vampire. She's a vampire," Adam revealed. Ian rubbed his hands intuitively on the sides of his neck, he was in the same house with a vampire, and he was human. Ian was obviously unsettled by the news.

"Uh...do you think I should leave? She's not going to try anything funny, right? Ah shit, I have to go," Ian stood to leave.

"She can't really do anything, calm down."

"That sentence wasn't satisfying. You just told me some moments ago that she is a threat to humans. Seems you've forgotten I still have human blood flowing through my veins, Adam. No wonder why she kept staring hungrily at me," Ian noted, the anxiety in his eyes was glaring.

"Put your shit together man, she can't hurt you. I'm here," Adam trued to calm him down.

"Hearing you say "I'm here" puts me in more fear. Let me just leave. We can discuss this over the phone, okay?"

Adam grabbed his friend firmly by the shoulders.

"Snap out of it! She can't do shit. She doesn't have her fangs, which makes her practically useless," Adam induced his friend, taking his hands off Ian's shoulders.

"Freaking coward," Adam teased.

"Well sorry for being an ORDINARY human guy, who is TRYING to leave his life peacefully, with no fear of losing his damn blood to a fucking vampire," Ian uttered sarcastically. It was obvious that he was still a little bit perturbed by the news. His friend's Luna was alive, and was a vampire.

Adam laughed at Ian, it had been long since he saw him get hysterical. The last time Ian was like that, was when he found a snake coiled up in his car. Adam still couldn't get the incident out of his head.

If Adam were to be very honest at that point, he also wasn't sure whether or not Ian's presence in the house would trigger Sarah's thirst. However, he didn't tell Ian about his doubts, instead he bet seventy-five percent that Sarah would not hurt Ian.

"She's not aware that she's my luna yet."

"Werewolves can't mate with vampire's right. It's like two paths that should never cross, right"

Adam nodded.

"For how long is she going to live in your house then? What if she finds out later?" Ian quizzed concernedly.

"I have to find out where exactly she came from. Since the priest said she was dead, she probably was dead then brought back to life for some reason. Although, she told me sha had just been asleep for many years, but o still need to meet the root of this. There could be a way to send her back. She's still going to stay here nonetheless, till I find a way to fix this mess," Adam explained.

Ian heaved a sigh and clapped his hands together.

"There's an urgency you need to take care of, that's why I came here. We have to go somewhere together. Shit! Now that I'm thinking of it I shouldn't have just told you over the phone."

"Coward," Adam mocked.

"Whatever. Anyway, some young werewolves were caught on camera in the city park last night. Although, it's been proven that they were just some mischievous teens who were putting on a costume, I know there real wolves. If they are visiting the city in their wolf form, it means they might be out there to attack innocent children," Ian told Ad, showing him the footage on his iPad.

A serious face replaced the playful one he had earlier on. He paused, zoomed and replayed the footage, to try and recognise where they came from, from either their fur oth the shape of their claws.

"I don't think they are from the Lead pack. They look more like they're from the north…"

"Northern wolves?" Ian's eye's bulged, aren't they also brutal?

Adam nodded, but it was obvious he still had a lot on his mind.

"This northern wolves live very far away from here. What could possibly be their mission, that they had to travel this far?" Adam asked himself loudly, tapping his index finger curiously on the iPad's screen.

"Let's go," Adam told Ian as he got on his feet.

"What about her?" Ian asked.

"She knows how to stay calmly in the house now, doesn't she? Besides, I've gotten her enough food and multi-vitamins, so she'll be fine."

"She's actually not that tough," Adam added.

Ian shrugged and headed out of the house, Adam followed behind him.
