Chapter 21 - Not another traitor

Princess Carrie couldn't help but speak. "Gavin, she may not be-"

"Don't trust anyone easily," Gavin said, voice becoming darker as he remembered Sin and Bran who almost harmed her hours ago.

"I told Keagan the truth about the illusions of this forest. If we were to stick close together, the illusions would appear the same as for everyone and could easily be handled per group. It is not per person," Asher explained, bowing again as a sign of respect and loyalty to the prince.

Gavin's eyes went directly over Tamara. "And how about you?"

There were no expressions on her face as she said, "I only told him what I have learned from the academy."

"And that is?" Gavin asked. If Tamara ended up saying something that wasn't really discussed or learned from the academy, then it might really be that she was the traitor who was working with Sid and Bran.

"That the illusions may include things... such as we desire the most in the world and it varies for different people who would see them," Tamara said simply.

Gavin felt his mind beginning to throb. Both spoke reasonably and according to what they knew about the illusions. Unless one of them was lying, and only when Keagan woke up and told them what the two really said could their words be confirmed.

"Second Prince, I think Keagan is poisoned. We need to treat him quickly," Princess Carrie said, two fingers on Keagan's neck where a small spot had begun to turn into a shade of purple and red.

"I can help find the herb," Asher suggested. "Your Highness must trust me and let me prove my worth."

Tamara remained silent as Gavin glanced over her. When he looked at the princess wearing worried looks, he let out a frustrated sigh. Still wary as he moved back to where Princess Carrie was, he said in a low voice, "Let's take them with us. Just stay close to me."

Princess Carrie glanced over the two people, eyes promptly lingering on Tamara before she pulled her attention away and back to Gavin. "Let's Keagan first before asking them anything again. Also... please don't worry too much about me."

Gavin gave her a look.

"I am a princess and I am a werewolf too. I can protect myself," Princess Carrie said, eyes looking straight and seriously at Gavin.

Gavin never had an issue whether werewolves were alphas, betas, or omegas. In the royal family most especially, these didn't matter at all. More than anything else, people paid attention to whether one was a werewolf or a human. If one was outside those two choices, they were considered outsiders and completely did not belong to the community.

With one last look, the two silently decided to give each other space, enough to be able to think for themselves regardless of the urge to protect. Gavin, most especially, reminded himself he couldn't do more than he was doing for the princess. This fact was again and again slapped to his face as Tamara kept giving him looks which gave him an unpleasant and extremely upsetting feeling.

Soon, they reached a shrine where a stone tablet was located. Written on it was the name: Moon Oracle.

"Do you want to have your fate read by the Moon?"
