POV Vera
A knock at the door startled her but she gratefully claimed the excuse to get out of the chair she'd been sitting in for the last few hours. Estel greeted her with a tentative smile assessing her mood and Stewart peeked in at her from a row of shelves a few feet away. She smiled at them and said, "Please tell me it's lunch and time for me to take a break."
Estel smiled and the three of them went outside with their lunches to eat behind the library just off to the side of the other scribes. The other students usually ate out front. Hopefully, they would stay there and she wouldn't have to face anyone yet.
"So it's true?" Stewart asked.
"Maybe? I was told to simply do as my uncle said and I could ask questions later. But it can't be true, no noble would accept me as a lady… I'm not even accepted by the town matriarchs, I'm not lady material."
