The tunnels were musty and completely dark. He'd memorized the turns he'd need to take and dragged his hand along the wall to guide his way. There were the occasional squeaks and patter of rats and the far more disturbing crunch or squish of things under his boots, but then there was a thin strip of light up ahead and he rushed forward.
It took a moment to free the door and get threw all the overgrowth hiding the door from the other side. The forest was in shadows but it seemed bright after the total dark of the tunnels and he found his way to the border of the east fields easily enough.
Once there he whistled loudly and Thunder came trotting up Starlight tide up close behind. The sun was already set so he rode to the smith shop in haist. He snuck behind the back of Vera's house rather than ride up to the front and looked up at Vera's window. The sight of flickering candlelight brought a smile to his lips.
