Chapter 42 - The Academy Letter

Druak slowly awoke to his aching body, which despite being completely healed by the mages still had a lingering pain. Druak had avoided showing any signs of this pain yesterday due to Isacc and Sirah.

Slowly sitting up on his bed he gradually managed to cross his legs. His plan was to circulate his mana around his body to find out if there was any lingering damage from his fight with the orcs.

Within Druaks room the sound of birds chirping and the whistling of the wind could be heard, as Druak concentrated on slowly moving his mana throughout his body.

After doing this for 10 minutes Druak had finally finished and as he did so he let out a sigh of relief. "Phew." After sighing in relief Druak proceeded to look at his arm and said."Looks like I can't use this arm for a while, but at least there's no permanent damage."

Once Druak had scanned his body with his mana he had noticed that there were no serious injuries, there was however a slight red area around where his arm was cut and mangled by one of the orcs.

This was a sign of lingering mana, which was probably still there due to the difference in stage between Druak and that specific orc. This meant that Druak would probably struggle with circulating mana into this arm and if mana was used it could course a clash between the two types of mana, which could lead to permanent damage.

The upside to what Druak observed was that as long as he was careful there would be no permanent damage. So despite having to be careful for a while Druak was still happy as this was the worst injury he sustained against opponents that were far stronger than him.

After he had finished scanning his body he then decided to get changed into his uniform, since he planned to go out and train for a bit. Druak had gained plenty of combat experience in his past life, as his kingdom was constantly at war with other kingdoms.

The problem which Druak faced at the moment was that he had only ever fought low-stage opponents such as thugs and thieves, it also didn't help that in the past he mainly used summons.

Realizing how little he knew about his new powers Druak knew it was crucial to train even more, especially if he wanted to get his revenge on that despicable lich who had used his body to decimate entire villages.

As Druak was changing to get ready for his morning training he noticed that a folded-up letter along with a badge fell to the ground.

Reaching out Druak first picked up the letter followed by the badge. As Druak picked up the letter he noticed that it was sealed by the official crest of the Gryphon Academy. This crest could only be used by the president of the academy himself.

Realizing just how rare it was to see this crest on a seal, Druak knew that this letter was of extreme importance. Druak's gaze turned extremely serious as he slowly began to remove the seal, to see what was written upon the letter.

Once opened Druak began to read the contents of the letter.

I am the academy president. I would first like to thank you for locating the orc scouts within the forest and fending them off. I am glad that even students with your status are still able to help our prestigious academy. Theone of the reasons I have sent you a letter is to inform you of the acceptance ceremony that will be occurring this evening for all accepted new students.

This however is merely a formality and a much more important occasion will be taking place after the ceremony. Since you have managed to rank within the top 30 in your year I would like to give you the honor of participating in this event and joining me along with all other top 30 students for a meal that will be taking place within my office.

I look forward to seeing you there and remember that ranks are constantly changing so don't expect your rank to stay as it is.

Yours Sincerely

Academy President

As Druak read through the letter it became abundantly clear that this president didn't completely agree with his ranking and placement in the higher ranks. "I guess there must be some conflict in the academy or someone in a high position that is helping me to get that high rank."

Druak came to this conclusion as it made no sense that someone who disliked him would rank him so highly. However, after thinking some more Druak didn't think it was the second option." Now that I think about it I shouldn't know anyone strong enough to oppose the president, so it's probably just some conflict."

After reading through the letter and coming to a reasonable conclusion, Druak began to observe the badge which was next to the letter. He had already known what this was thanks to learning about it from Isacc in his past life. This badge was similar to an identification badge as well as a way to store all your accumulated academy points, which was the way in which students would trade for different things.

[Arena Rank] : Unranked

[Year Rank] : 25th

[School Year] : 1st Year Student

[Class] : Class S

[Family Crest] : None

[Academy Points] : 12,000

After reading through the information Druak's expression dropped as he saw noticed something that he had not expected.

"Wait, I got 10,000 extra points for fighting those orcs." The reason Druak was so shocked was due to the fact that normal students only got 2,000 points at the start of each year. These points were barely enough to last them an entire year and if they wanted to gain more they'd have to risk their points within the arena. This meant Druak basically gained 4 years' worth of low-quality food in one go.

Druak was incredibly happy with his reward for finding the orc and also glad about getting the bonus of getting ranked at 25th for his year. The only problem was that he knew he'd probably get targeted for a duel, by the lower rankers, more often than most.

This was due to two reasons: one Druak was of commoner birth and not noble. The other reason was that Druak believed that other students would believe his rank wasn't deserved and he only got it thanks to luck in fending off the orcs.

However despite this Druak still had a rather prideful expression on his face as he stared at his new badge as he had finally started out on his new journey, and managed to change a big part of his past life. He had entered an academy….He was so engrossed in the badge that he hadn't even noticed Sirah who had been standing there watching him make weird expressions.

"Eww. Look at you, what kind of expression even is that. Such a waste of a handso ...." Sirah suddenly stopped speaking and tried to change the subject, her face going slightly red."So what's that in your hand."

Druak noticed what Sirah was about to say and ignored what she had just asked."Sorry, I couldn't quite hear the last part of what you said, could you say it again." A grin had appeared on Druaks face. He had a habit of occasionally teasing people, this habit had developed after hanging around with Isacc for too long, and even though Druak did it much less than Isacc this moment was too perfect for him to miss.

Sirahs at first was confused but almost instantly after her face went bright red. Trying her best to change the subject she responded." I asked what was in your hand, you got a problem with hearing." Her voice cutely squeaked, as she tried to keep control of her embarrassment.

Sirah had thought that Druak had quite a handsome face, what made it worse was that she was attracted to more aggressive-looking faces, which fit Druak perfectly.

After seeing Druak smile and his mouth about to open to speak she instantly knew that he had no plans of letting this go. Reverting to her normal violent behavior she instantly summoned an ice dagger and threw it straight at Druak.
