Chapter 1 - Destiny calling

A lonesome introvert who has nothing significant to exhibit to the eyes that beholds her.

Not even a soul glinted that she was the rare daughter of Liam Armstrong, one of the prominent billionaires across California.

Sapphire Armstrong is a twenty-one years old lady who lost her father mysteriously to the cold hands of death.

She never knew her mother as she was been informed by her deceased father that her mother died at childbirth while giving birth to her.

Nevertheless, that doesn't entail that Sapphire has no relative to show off to the world.

She has a terrible stepmother and a vicious stepsister who would stop at nothing just to see her in pain, torment, and absolute depression.

Those souls who were meant to protect and love her as their own —not only did they acquire the wills to her father's fortune.

They likewise threatened to kill her one day if she doesn't flee from the ineffable mansion and never take a step to come back.

Sapphire never took their vicious warnings to heart, she was simply an introvert who spent all her days at the therapist's office and then —goes back home at night to snuggle into her comforting pillows.

No friends to converse with, no lover to lean a shoulder on. No one to soothe her into believing everything was gonna be alright someday.

Well, not until one day, one rainy night —everything changed in a blink, destiny decides to rewrite her fate into an unpredictable one...

In the downpour, the rain fell heavily on the ragged grounds. The trees quivered like lovers, even the shrieking night creatures could not be sighted in the scenery as they had taken shelters of their abodes.

Meanwhile, Sapphire could be seen walking slowly like an expired ghost. She wasn't affected by the strong winds either was she frightened by the eerie sensations that crammed the dark boulevard.

"Hm!" She signed heavily.

Her fragile hands wrapped around her torso as she gently gave herself a pacifying compression. Her face was glued downward, barely could she mark out her feet on the dark grounds.

Her dark blue hairs were being safeguarded by the black hoodie she wore, she wore blue-coated geans which has gotten rudely drenched by the rainfall.

Abruptly, Sapphire hoisted her head up and her jungle green eyes caught sight of her home in a distance —the gigantic mansion which she has always perceived ever since she was little. The very home which housed her and harbored her like a pure shield.

Saddeningly, Sapphire winked the emotions boiling in her soul as she was welcomed by another thought which was the awful impression of her stepmother and stepsister.

As usual, they'd bully and ridicule her. Treat her like a pure zero and wickedly grab her dark blue hair till she feels them jerking from their initial scalps.

Truly, It's always been so unbearable, that she'd feel her heart stinging from the violent assault.

"Ma'am Sapphire!" A knowledgeable voice shrieked.

It resonated in worries, and the call compelled Sapphire to lift her head again and that signified to her that she was home.

The once peaceful abode has curled into a one of misery and anguish after her father's death.

"Henrietta, what are you doing out here?" Sapphire forcefully pushed the query out from her lips.

Her jungle green eyes gawk at the red-haired maid, her legs trudging into the yard of the mansion through the silver-coated gate.

Her face was desolate and barren. But the evidence of concern could be felt in Sapphire's utters.

"Apologizes, Ma'am Sapphire. I was only troubled that you weren't home yet and it's raining heavily," Henrietta grouse worryingly.

Henrietta is the new maid her stepmother employed, the mansion has ample servants to labor at its beck and call.

But Mrs. Vera, her stepmother would always employ one every day and why won't she? When she constantly fires the servants at any slightest mistake.

She's a woman of imperfections who claims to be perfect!

"I'm sorry, let's go inside," Sapphire muttered at her and they both strode together as they took the left bridle path of the yard.

Abruptly, something crucial seethed Sapphire's immune, it was so strong and oblivious that the sensations agitated her body and soul.

The strange was bashing her presence through the doorway even when she hasn't gotten to the door yet. What could that be?

She has never felt this way before, something was definitely wrong somewhere —but she just can't put her fingers on it.

"Henrietta, do we have a guest?" Sapphire asked, her eyelashes puckering aside at the red-haired.

She halted on her track, and so was Henrietta.

"Yes, Ma'am. But they are gone already," replied Henrietta.

"Who?" Sapphire asked a tone of curiosity was fluttering in her words.

"It's Mr. Langford and his wife, he was here a while ago for a dinner with his son, Princeton,"

"Er... Who are they?" Sapphire inquired further. It was noticeable that she doesn't seem to know the said person.

"Huh?!" Henrietta gasped. "You don't know the Langfords? I'm sorry to say this ma'am but... Are you an alien?!" She half-scream, her face flickering in surprise.

The rainfall was still slumping heavily as it was accompanied by menacing thunderclaps, the mist dabbed the earth's surfaces as it vaporizes cold breezes.

"Well…" Sapphire trails off, slightly scratching her neck as they both proceed their steps again.

Gradually, Sapphire felt the aura fleeing from her. It felt as if it was disappearing from her icy sight.

"Mr. Langford is a business tycoon, he's a wealthy man who possesses a lot of conglomerates and companies under his wing. He's extremely famous across the globe too," Henrietta explained as they both were earning to the door.

"Hm," Sapphire hummed. "I see," she acknowledged.

*Your future has been predestined, Sapphire... You must be strong for the future ahead* Henrietta whispered as she stood behind Sapphire when they had gotten to the door.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Sapphire shot her a stare behind, confusion and curiosity were obvious in her voice.

What was Henrietta blathering about?

Meanwhile, her hand turned the knob and she widened the entrance for the both of them to step inside the house.

Terrifyingly, her presence was welcomed by the two antagonistic souls in the living room —Mrs. Vera and her stepdaughter, Scenery.

Scenerity's got a pleasant name, she's a girl around the age of twenty with a friendly look but her bad attitude says the opposite of her.

Sapphire's heart palpitated immensely than normal, her jungle green orbs settled on her stepmother who was glaring maliciously at her.

—Raw loathing and pure hatred.

Sapphire's hand flees from the knob as she strolled into the house, while Henrietta stood close to the door.

"Mom! I told you she's a witch! She made Princeton reject me, he ignored me because of her!" Scenery cried out furiously.

She squawks her throat, willingly letting the tears slide down her freckle cheeks.

Sapphire knew she was acting up but then, she was perplexed as to why Scenery was pointing false accusations at her.

Something intense must have occurred when the guests came for dinner. And what does Princeton gat to do with her?

She's never heard about him but... Henrietta did mention him to be Mr. Langford's son.

"You…" Mrs. Vera deeply growls.

Her left hand straddled her waistline, while the other right one edged dangerously at Sapphire.

"You're indeed a witch!" She bellows further, her vicious eyes beclouding in anger.

Scarlet felt extremely dejected, she nervously bites her lips while wiggling her fingers as she struggled not to whimper.

Hence, her mind jogged many miles as she thought of several ways to solve the situation because she won't survive tonight if her hair gets pulled again.

"What did I do this time?" Sapphire finally pours out the question at them.

"How dare you ask my mum such a silly question, huh?!" Scenery yelled.

Without a thought, she dashed at Sapphire and punched her right fist spitefully across her face.

"Ah!!" Sapphire screamed, tears streaming down her hurting cheeks as she held her face.

"Sapphire!" Henrietta shrieked out, shockingly.

"How dare you interfere, you lowlife servant?! Leave my house this instant, you are fired!" Mrs. Vera barks at Henrietta.

Mrs. Vera lends a perilous look at her, but Henrietta was not affected by it all.

Suddenly, Henrietta's eyes pivoted from her normal white orbs into luminous purple fiery eyes —her dangerous purple orbs spurred Mrs. Vera to gulp down scaredly.

She alone saw the purple fiery eyes, and no one else did —and that only meant to Mrs. Vera that Henrietta wasn't a human.

"What is she?" She whimpered frighteningly and Henrietta turned around as she zipped out of the mansion and into the treacherous rainfall.

"What the hell did I do to you both, huh?!" Sapphire squealed again, shakily scrubbing her face with her palms but her tears kept dropping.

Scenery and Mrs. Vera flinched as they were startled at her statements; the Sapphire they knew would never talk back at them —Never.

Sapphire couldn't hold it back, her jaw clenched in resentment. Her green eyes grew dark as she wished to say more words to them, but she couldn't.

She's wounded, she's hurt.

"How dare you talk back at me and my mum?! Just because of your wizardry in this house, I was ignored by Princeton when he came here! Oh, Sapphire, you will pay for this chagrin with your life… Tonight!" Scenery squealed, devilishly.

Her voice pours out bitter animosity and fury, that simply indicated that she meant her threats.

Sapphire's shoulders hunched, and her eyes widened as her hands glid to her chest in deep trepidation.

What were they gonna do to her?

"Your days… Sapphire, are numbered in this house and that day is here!" Mrs. Vera growled viciously as she took stagnant steps at her.

Meanwhile, Scenery wagged her eyebrows disdainfully. Her lips tugging in deep anticipation and readiness to take Sapphire out.

Saphhire frighteningly took a step and a step back, anxiety and uneasiness became one.

"James and Peter, seize her!" Mrs. Vera ordered, wickedly.
