Arijit sat down on the couch in his room, thinking about ways to help his sister not knowing that somewhere not probably far, the devil was scheming evil ways on how to get her for himself.
He felt helpless at the moment. He wouldn't have been this bothered if it was any other person but the person here was Yu Liang and he knew that he was anything but good. He was the pure definition of evil. They had met once and both hated one another. Arjit hated him for being too cruel and Yu Liang hated him for absolutely no reason, he found a liking towards hating people. It's like a hobby.
What more if he married his sister, he had never seen him smile and even if he did smile, it must be that he's scheming something very evil, something unacceptable!
Arijit knew that there was no way he would be able to negotiate with that devil, even if he were to put his ego aside and find ways to negotiate with him, he would only make a mockery of him and use him as an object of his entertainment.
The only thing he could do right now is to console his sister which he knew won't be enough. A mighty CEO was not able to do anything for his sister and would just let her be gifted to some devil CEO. Unacceptable!
He had remembered that he still needed to see her so he made his way to her room. Few moments later, he reached her door. He was nervous because he didn't know how he'll explain the situation to her. She was looking up to him for goodness sake and yet he had let her down. He could only brace himself up if she said anything to him. He wouldn't mind it because he deserved it.
He let out a soft knock on the door, a few seconds passed by and still there was no response. "Seems she wants to be left alone." He muttered.
He knocked again and there was no answer, the environment was quiet and one would guess that one stayed there. Though he was worried he didn't want to barge in. He wanted to give her space for some time then talk to her tomorrow but his hunch told him that something was not alright.
Ignoring it, he moved to head back in his room when he heard some sound in her room. Now it made him worried. Is she alright? He thought to himself. He moved his hands to the door and he was glad it wasn't locked. He moved into the room and found out the lights were switched off. 'Strange. She never sleeps without the bedside lamp on.' He commented in his head. He switched on the lights in the room and his heart started to beat loudly when he noticed she was not on her bed. 'Calm down. She's fine. Everything's fine.' He said to himself and only he knew that it wasn't helping at all. His heart was beating wildly with the thought of his sister gone.
He shifted his gaze from the bed to her study table and he found her there, her timid figure resting on the wall with her body curled up. It looked like she had cried.
Sighing, he took a step forward to place her back on the bed but then she moaned in her sleep and he paused. "Please brother. Tell father, I can't mar...ry hi..m." She muttered in her sleep and Arjit clenched his fists tightly. She was traumatized even in her sleep, she couldn't sleep peacefully and it was all because he's unable to protect her. He's the cause of her pain. He's not able to fulfill his duties as her brother.
"I'm sorry Samara but I convinced him....but it doesn't mean I won't persist. I'll do anything for you." He murmured before he carried her and placed her on the bed.
"Sleep well. I'll visit tomorrow." He said before turning off the lights and leaving only the bedside lamp on. He gently placed the blanket above her knees and turned to leave.
He closed the door behind him and headed towards his room. It wasn't an option to visit his father as he wouldn't give him a listening ear so he only decided to head to his own room. They would talk properly when the sun rises.
Leaving all thoughts behind, he stood in front of his door, he wanted to have a goodnight sleep because he could only imagine what was in store for him tomorrow.
....
"Devi. I want you to keep an eye on Samara. Don't let her leave and provide her with everything necessary before the engagement. It's next week, understand?" Rajput instructed his wife and when he saw her nod her head he internally sighed.
Deep down, Devi was feeling happy and excited that the lowly girl would be out of their lives. Somethings' happened in the past that led to the conception of that girl. It was her mistake then, but she now knew better and that's why she hated the girl even if she hadn't offended her in any reason.
She would gladly send her off and push her to the lion's den, after all it didn't matter what Yu Liang would do to her. As long as she's out of their lives nothing mattered the most.
She was eager for the wedding to happen but according to traditions, it would take a month after the engagement before they finally get married. Well, it's no big deal as long as she's out.
Thinking if anything could be done to make the wedding happen this month, she asked. "Is it possible we get them married this month? You know we can't let her wait any longer." She showed fake concern for the girl whom she called her daughter but was not.
"Tradition is tradition. We can't do anything to change it. It would be considered inauspicious if we don't follow these things. Besides the priest had mentioned that next month was one with best auspicious dates." He explained and she nodded not prying further on it. 'Doesn't matter anyway.'
"What about Arjit?" She asked but this time she was worried for her son. Worried for what he might do when that girl is gone.
"He'll come over it. Let's sleep." He said and she nodded. They both retired to bed with a wry smile plastered on her face.
...
It was morning and Arjit had woken up, he was eager to meet his sister and talk to her. He wanted to know if she was better now but again he was anxious, he didn't know how she would feel meeting him. She would feel like he had failed her and that was something he wasn't looking forward to.
He stepped out of his room and met with a maid in his corridor. He seized the opportunity to ask of his sister and the maid's face turned red but his face remained impassive, he went straight to the point on why he had called her. " Is Samara awake?" He asked and the maid immediately shook her head.
"She did not step out of her room. I had gone to check on her but she remained sleeping." The maid replied with her gaze lowered.
Hearing her reply, he stepped away and headed to the dining hall where he found his mother and his father who was seated at the head of the table. He walked closer to them and greeted. "Morning father, morning mom." He said with an impassive voice. His father didn't mind it but his mother did, she cursed in her mind and put the blame on Samara for making her son this way.
"Having breakfast with us today. Aren't you going to the company?" His father asked and it took a lot of seconds for Arjyit to reply. He wasn't in the mood to say anything and he couldn't guarantee he wouldn't say something rude.
"I have asked Abishek to fix my schedule." He replied but of course, Rajput wasn't satisfied with such answer.
"Why?" Does he really need to explain things to him. Didn't he cause this in the first place and now he's asking why? Arjit thought to himself.
"I didn't want to leave without seeing my sister." He said and Rajput's eyebrows furrowed.
"You're not planning on helping her escape, are you?" Came the taunting voice of Rajput.
"Father, you've done your part now let me do mine as her brother. Don't take that away from me. I only need to see her."
"No."
"Think whatever but I'll speak to her and it's final."
"Are you going against my words?" Rajput was quick to say, hoping this would shit his son's mouth.
"When have I ever gone against you? I've done everything you wanted. Been the perfect son you dreamed of and now...now you don't want me to be the perfect brother?"
"Arjit I don't want you seeing her and -"
"Enough guys. We should concentrate on the food and not on talking, okay?" Came Devi's voice and that was enough to shut their mouths. One couldn't go against his wife and the other couldn't argue with his mother.
Devi shook her head and spoke. "You should both get along with each other. It's not good for a father and son to have an unknown reason for a feud." Commented Devi and both men restrained themselves from saying anything further as they didn't want to upset the woman they loved most.
