Samara had arrived at the mansion's entrance and she sighed. She couldn't believe this place was her home. She definitely didn't want to get in, and it made her think if getting married to that devil would be much better, but they were all the same. All rich men were power hungry, he was no different from them and that thought alone would make her flee from this city.
The Uber driver noticed that the girl was still sitting in the car, was she lost in thoughts? Didn't she notice she was already home?
One part of this Uber job he didn't like, the passengers were weird and she's no less than them. Why the fuck is she still in his car?!!
"Miss, we're at the mansion." He said to her and she jolted.
She didn't have any idea she was supposed to get down, she had been thinking about the whole marriage thing and it seemed that it was obvious she was not okay.
"O-okay. Thank you." She said in a low voice as she stepped out of the car.
"I'm sorry." She told the Uber driver and she heard him scoff as he drove his car past her.
"He's weird." She murmured to herself.
She took in a deep breath and stepped inside the mansion. Her home, but she had never considered this place her home in the first place. Her mother treats her like she doesn't belong here, and it was the truth. She never wanted a life as extravagant as this, all she wanted was a simple and peaceful life, but what could she do? It's her home and there's absolutely nothing she could do about it.
'Sigh...I wish I had a sister or someo....'
Her thoughts were interrupted when a hard slap erupted on her cheek. What the hell! She screamed in her mind as she could still feel the burning sensation the slap had given.
Did she do anything wrong? She was only walking towards her room! What's wrong there? She thought as her eyes were burning from the tears that were about to spill from her eyes.
"Mother. What did I do wrong this time?" She asked in a low voice and she saw her mother glare at her.
"You're the reason my son rescheduled his appointment. Pray to the gods nothing goes wrong cause I won't forgive you." Devi warned.
"I never asked him to reschedule for me. He did out of his accord mother. Why am I getting slapped for no reason?" She said as the tears she had been holding back spilt on her cheeks.
"Well, it's a warning. Next time you'll learn how to compose yourself in front of your brother." She said with hatred in her eyes, but all too soon it was gone and replaced with love, and it was then she noticed her father enter the living room.
"You're getting married dear, we're not sending you to hell. Don't cry, everything would be fine." She said and Samara wondered how someone could change their demeanour in split seconds. It was still surprising how she could fool her father, and her father foolishly listened to every word she says.
She didn't know why, but she wished her father had just ignored her when her mother died. Maybe, she would have had the life she wanted. Not where she would be caged like a bird. She wanted freedom to do what she wanted. She wasn't a child anymore!
"What's wrong? Why's she crying?" Her father asked and Samara clenched her fists together. She wanted to go to her room!!
"Oh. It's still about the marriage stuff but rest assured, she'll be fine. I'll make sure to find ways to console my sweet daughter." She said and Samara internally scoffed.
Find ways to console me? By slapping me I guess! She thought to herself.
"You should wrap your head around the fact that you're getting married. So stop wailing like a child. We're not sending you to another universe." Her father said as he walked towards a plush couch. He took his seat, and continued speaking.
"The Yu's would be here the day after tomorrow, so I want you to comport yourself and do not create a scene. We don't want anything happening on your engagement." He warned and Samara let out a fake smile.
"Yes father." She said and Devi leaned in to hug her but whispered in her ears.
"Make a single mistake and I'll turn your life into a living nightmare before you leave." She said and in split seconds, a smile was carved on her face.
"Now go to your room. You need rest. I'll send the maids to help you out in the next three hours." She said and she guided her forward.
.....
Samara stood in front of her room after walking for a while. She took in a deep breath and stepped inside. Always the same thing, she thought to herself. She had never found happiness here, it was just her and her parents. No one genuinely cared for her, except for her brother.
'In two days time, the engagement would be held. I should run away tonight.' She mentally said but then she hadn't even expected it to be this sudden. She hadn't packed what she'll need, would she be able to do so tonight? She asked herself and not thinking much about it. She started looking for necessary things to take.
She slipped into her closet to take a few items, so no one would suspect. She took some shoes, and a bag to arrange the items in it.
She was done with that and secretly placed it where no one could see, she was about to leave when her leg hit a hard object.
"Agh! Even the objects are against me." She cursed and bent to pick it up but the box caught her attention and she couldn't help but want to open it. She had tried so hard to stay away from this very box but it kept finding its way to meet her. The box held bittersweet memories which she didn't want to recollect but since it was going to be her last day here, she should open it to check right?
Heaving a sigh, she took the box back to her bedroom and placed it on her study table. She stared at it for a moment before noticing that she was sweaty and she needed to take a shower.
"Well, I need to bathe then. See you boxie." She waved the box, took a towel and walked towards her bathroom.
.....
"Samara? Samara? Sam-" Devi paused as she noticed Samara wasn't in the room. She hadn't seen nor heard her step out of the room, where did she go? Devi asked herself.
She had personally placed her room on the second floor, so it won't be easy to escape. Unless she had a death wish, which she didn't want to happen yet.
Heaving a sigh, she checked for her in the large room but she was nowhere near there.
She walked towards the closet and that was when she noticed the bathroom door slightly open. 'she must be bathing. Good to know she's complying.' Devi thought as her eyes frantically searched the closet for any anomalies.
Taking a deep breathe, she stepped out of the closet and her eyes caught a box on the study table.
She stepped closer to open the box, the box looked familiar but she couldn't pinpoint where she had seen it. Placing her hands on the edges, she opened one edge. Trying to open the other edge, Samara called out her name.
"Mother? What's wrong?"
