Chapter 27 - I'm ready

Bonus Chap dedicated to all my voters. Thanks to you all.

Once he said that, he faced the door and continued his advance out out of the room. King Gregory, however, raged.

"Axel!" King Gregory called out indignantly. "What did you do? I have warned you to stop killing my guards."

"Stop sending them after me. And you can get new ones. After all, you have over a thousand of them in training. I wonder what war you are preparing for." Axel answered before he finally stepped out of the room.

The king walked out of his room to find the two guards who were supposed to be standing by his door, standing in a corner. When they saw him, they bowed immediately and resumed their position. King Gregory sighed silently and returned to his room. He couldn't blame them. Anyone who went against Axel was asking for death and the guards knew it. They wouldn't dare to stand in his way or try to stop him from going anywhere he pleases.

Back in his room, Axel teleported to the hotel at Greenlight City. So many things were running through his head, but the most prominent one was the figure of vampires he was told that Alita had killed. How did she manage to do that?

Alita was quietly listening to Asher talk about his time at college when Axel arrived. He could see that she was less tense than when he had left her earlier, though his keen eye also observed that she was not fully relaxed.

It was Asher who first noticed Axel's presence and looked up to meet his eyes. Alita, who was seated opposite him, noticed his change in countenance and eye movement. She quickly turned her head backward to see Axel approaching them.

Her body tensed up again when she noticed he didn't look as calm as he was before he left. Where did he go to and what happened to him there?

Axel sat on the sofa next to the one she was sitting on and looked intensely at her.

"Is everything okay?" Asher asked, wondering why Axel was in such a mood.

Axel glanced at him for a second, then returned his gaze to Alita. "I have a few questions. Please don't feel bad about it. I just need to know how to protect you better." He explained, hoping she would understand. When she nodded, he let out a relieved breath.

"How did you manage to kill over eight hundred vampires in one year? Were you hunting them?" His first question rolled out of his lips while his face held an incredulous look.

Alita became astounded. She blinked severally as her brows drew together in confusion.

"What are you saying, Ax? I'm pretty sure I heard eighty, not eight hundred." Asher countered. Where is this eight hundred coming from?

"Yes. Eighty is the official figure while eight hundred is the real thing according to the king." Axel replied without looking at Asher. He focused his attention on Alita and he wondered why she had that oblivious look on her face.

"What eight hundred vampires are you talking about? I don't think I have even come across such a number of vampires in my entire life." She defended. Of course, she had killed vampires, some she was proud of, some she wasn't, but she wasn't denying it. However, pinning the death of eight hundred vampires on her was too much.

Axel and Asher became legitimately confused. What was going on here? Axel sighed and decided to try another way.

"Alright. Can you remember how many vampires you've killed since you got your abilities?" His voice sounded extremely cool and patient.

"I can't say for sure, but I don't think they are up to sixty." She answered, her face still twisted in an offended frown.

Now Axel didn't even know what to say anymore. Sixty? Not even a hundred, so how did the body count get to eight hundred, all killed the same way? If she had even said three hundred, he would have believed she did more than that, and couldn't remember. But sixty?

He ran his hand through his hair and fell back on the chair. Is it possible that Alita is not the venom, and the real venom is somewhere out there killing vampires? Or could it be that there is another person with the venom out there?

"Your life is in danger, Alita. Eight hundred dead vampires have been found and they were all killed in the same way you kill. It's either your sister is alive, possesses the same ability as you, and is killing vampires as well, or someone else is doing it. Either way, the vampires are after the person. Don't you think it's time to find out what you are?"

When Alita heard all he said, the first thing that rang in her head was that Alexa might still be alive somewhere. Hope bloomed in her heart that one day she would find her and they would be together again. She didn't even think of the second option. Right now, she wanted to hold on to the hope of reuniting with Alexa. And about finding out what she is, she had no problem with that. In fact, that had been one of the most disturbing questions to which she had no answer, so she would most definitely love to know what she was.

"I think I'm ready to find out. Where does this person stay?" She consented, first because she really wanted to know, and second because she was so excited about the news that her sister might be alive, that most of her worries left her.

"She stays at Havilla. Are you free tomorrow?" He queried, but her brows had furrowed since his first statement.

"Havilla? I thought humans are not allowed entry into Havilla." She asked, looking at him as if he had forgotten a very important detail.

"How did you know about that?" Axel asked with subtly widened eyes. No human was supposed to know about that rule.

"My uncle." She affirmed and he nodded.

"Of course. I almost forgot about your uncle. I think I need to meet him. He may have some answers. Where does he stay?" The look on Axel's eyes was bright and expectant as if he was expecting a very important piece of news that would solve all of his problems.
