Chapter 7 - THE ATTACK AT JIMMY STREET

One of them gave Brad another punch when he got up, he fell back down, and on the ground, the boy began kicking Brad's stomach, while Brad watched the others molesting Kylie, feeling life getting sucked out of him.

Brad yelled out loudly until his voice deepened into a growly voice. His face got covered in hair, fangs jutted out of his mouth, as well as claws, and his hair stood erect above his head. The one kicking him gasped in fear and stopped immediately.

"Wolf!" He tried to run, but Brad was too fast for him. Brad dashed at him, lifted him from his shirt and bashed him against one of the walls.

"You!" Brad looked at the one molesting Kyile, his yellow eyes deepening with red pigments. He dashed at that one and began to tear his face severally with his claws, then he lifted him up and threw him against the other two. The other two, fell, but quickly took him off their bodies and ran away in fear. Brad stood there, in his beastly form and torn clothes, breathing heavily and staring at Kylie with his hideous eyes.

Kylie couldn't believe her eyes, she was surprised she wasn't scared of him. She just stood there staring at him, her mouth agape. It was the most shocking sight of her life.

Kylie went back home with a heavy mind. What she saw still replayed in her mind like she still saw it. She never knew that Brad was a werewolf. She used to hear of werewolves in folklore or in movies, but she never knew she'd get to know one and even fall in love with him. She began to suspect that it was what her mother saw in his father that made her forbid the relationship between two of them.

When she returned she had a quarrel with her mother over seeing Brad once again, which made her mother officially ban her from visiting him or returning late at night.

The next day she sat to discuss with her mother. She subtly asked her how much she knew of werewolves, and her mother surprisingly knew almost nothing about their characteristics, which made Kylie further confused. She wanted to tell her mother what she saw the previous night, but on a second thought she decided to keep her mouth shut.

She was still surprised over how not frightened she was towards Brad. She wanted to see Brad again to discuss with him over what she saw the previous night, but she was scared of her mother's rage. She decided to stay back at home, but after sometime boredom drove her to lie that she wanted to visit the bookstore. Her mother granted her permission and she happily went straight to Brad's house.

She took deep breaths before knocking on his door. When Brad got out she gasped and walked a few steps back. Brad looked tired and dull when he looked at her, but he still flashed a smile and ushered her in.

"Your parents are not yet home?" She asked, taking a seat.

"Relax, there's something I need to tell you. There's no more hiding it after what you saw last night," he said.

"Actually, that's was why I came," she said.

"You ain't scared or something?" He asked.

"Surprisingly not," she said.

"My father once told me the story. Though he suffered amnesia, what he could remember was seeing my mother's face over him. She told him she found him washed ashore at a riverbank. When my father fully regained consciousness he began having some weird feelings from time to time, as well as seizures and joint pains. It was when he got stable in his skin that he realized he could shapeshift into a werewolf at will, unlike the mainstream werewolves that only shapeshift under the influence of a full moon," he said.

"And is this in anyway connected to him not always being present?" She asked.

"Yes. He's an alpha werewolf, and he has a pack he leads each night. They are in conflict with a particular pack, and at times they clash," Brad said.

"What sought of rough living is that? What if he gets hurt?" She asked.

"My dad seems to be indestructible, same as other alphas out there."

"What about your mom?" She asked.

"My mom was originally human, but love drove her to plead for a bite from him, which he did, now she's a member of his pack, and they stay out at night, forbidding me from even stepping a foot outside."

"You're a werewolf as well. Don't tell me your dad bit you too," she said, scared for a moment.

"Mine is hereditary, but I'm not as strong and brave as my dad. I'm fast, I have a long hearing range, as well as a far sight and smell from long distances. I shapeshift when I'm angered, and my strength multiplies when I do so. I thought I'd never see you again after what you saw last night."

"I know you're totally harmless Brad, and I still love you," she said.

A smile hung on his face. "I'd perpetually protect you."

"I'm afraid one day I might seek a bite from you," she said.

"I wouldn't do that. The process of shapeshifting is something you shouldn't go through. It's painful."

"I know that," she bent her head. "I think my mom saw something in your dad's eyes that made her forbid our relationship."

"I think so too, but nothing can separate us," Brad said. He got pacified by the assurance he saw in her eyes.

They both locked their fingers, smiling at each other.

Kylie unknowingly overstayed at Brad's house, and when she returned home at night, she saw her mother standing at the door with anger written all over her face. Kylie breathed heavily, expecting another night of unrest.

When she got to the door, her mother gave way without saying a word to her, which made her more restless. Theresa never said a word to her until it was bed time. Kylie slept, still bothered over her mother's scary silence.
