Chereads / When We Were Married / Chapter 31 - CHAPTER 31

Chapter 31 - CHAPTER 31

I wondered what that look was about the whole day while I finished all my tasks and went back home. I was with Carol and Lydia because Terrence who was always with us when we come home has gone home way too long before us. It was still afternoon because Leslie made us come home right after we finished our tasks because she thought we would only be wasting our time being in the office without doing anything. So we did and came down from the office on the 12th floor.

We were riding the elevator with 2 other girls from other floors and they were on their way to the first floor too.

"There was a commotion in the entrance, I'll go check it," said the other girl dressed in black business attire. I, Lydia, and Carol looked at each other when we heard the girl say something about the commotion.

"They were trying to sue the company on the 15th floor and they're rallying in the entrance right now,"

A rally? We all looked at each other again. We made it to the first floor and saw the commotion from afar. There were lots of people at the entrance who were trying to come in but the guard was trying to stop them. the entrance was blocked and there were a lot of employees watching them than exiting using the other exits. If this is the usual time for employees to get out of the building, there would've been more employees right now.

I looked at the people wearing red shirts and white headbands outside the building as they start throwing the wooden placards into the glass as they were trying to push their way through the entrance.

The commotion got me really scared because most of the people were angry about something and I am afraid that they might be able to walk past the guards and barge their way in and get me caught up with the commotion. "Let us go move to the other exit," I said to keep myself away from the entrance as much as possible because I know it'll get messy when they come in.

We walked to the other exit where I saw Zach for the first time. It was the exit to the parking lot and we were surprised to see that they were people there too. So that is why employees are gathered near the main entrance because they cannot get out anywhere else. There were more people at the main entrance but the people here in the parking lot exit were just a little less crowded.

I wanted to get out of the building right away because things were getting intense. There were loud banging noises from the outside. there were lots of cars honking and the sound of people expressing their anger towards one company from the building.

I don't get why they were mad but I also feel sorry for them. What the company has done must've been so bad that they had to act this way and there were a lot of people who were victimized too.

It was getting messier as the time pass by and we were just standing there, waiting for the tension to come down but it just keeps on increasing. More guards were put on every entrance and exit even some of the employees going to help them block the people from coming in.

I just hope that the head of the company would come and deal with these people immediately because they were causing traffic in the driveway too because there was just a lot of them outside the building. Glasses are broken and some of the things in the entrance were wiped out and destroyed because of the fight between employers and guards against people. And based on how I see it, we have no chance to cool them up for a decent talk because they were just so mad.

"What company did this?"

"I just want the company to come and stop them,"

"Whatever the company did wrong, they must deal with the consequences,"

"I heard they brought all the money away from all these people,"

"This is the worst,"

"I have to go home now, damn it,"

"One of the guards just passed out earlier,"

"Why can't they just let them in?"

I heard a lot of people talking and based on what I heard, the people were scammed by one of the companies in the building. But the company's head is nowhere to be found and I bet the company's head has deserted the place.

I waited for a few more minutes but it just keeps on getting worst and there is a lot of damage going on in the entrance right now because they were getting more violent. I looked at the other exit and it was just the same.

"We can't just let the guards deal with it by themselves," said Carol while putting her arms crossed on her chest.

"I know," answered Lydia who looked very worried about the current situation.

It was slowly getting out of hand when a group of bodyguards came from the elevator. They stayed in front of it for a few more moments and didn't help the others at the entrance. I thought they were too shallow to help deal with the people when I saw another batch come from the elevator but with Zach with them too. they were waiting for him to arrive so they stayed in front of the elevator for him.

I stepped back to a more crowded space when I saw them march towards the entrance. there were a lot of guards with him too and they were all tall and wearing black suits. They walked along with him closer to the entrance and tried to calm the people down.

I didn't hear what they were talking about. I wanted to step forward and get myself closer but I didn't want Zach to see me. The people around me were thinking just like I do and they stepped forward so I slowly came along with them to hear what he was telling them.

"The manager of that company left with all your money, he is no longer in this building so please stop making a commotion in my building," he said calmly to those people who stopped being violent.

"Who are you? Are you the owner of the company?!" one of the people yelled the question.

"No, I am the owner of this building you are trying to break into," he said, "Please discuss it with the authorities and stop the--"

Zach's voice was drowned by people yelling and being violent again. I was so shocked because I thought they were going to go home after what Zach has said but they started to get even more violent.

"They should've called the police," I heard someone say.

Everything became very loud again but I cannot run for some reason. I didn't want to leave the area and I wanted to witness the whole thing.

The people outside became more violent and proceeded on trying to break the glass door. It managed to make me step back because I already knew they will manage to get in. Everybody inside was horrified when a loud sound came from the entrance and after that was the breaking of glass and people running inside. I stepped back. two of Zach's bodyguards were suddenly running towards us and positioned in front trying to block anybody who would come to us.

I already knew why they came so I hid in the crowd. I thought none of them saw me here but here they are.

The people came running everywhere on the first floor and we were all cramping in a small corner afraid that the people might bring their anger towards all of us.

I was looking around to see what was happening at the entrance when I saw Zach's bodyguards forming a circle and I saw them being attacked by the people. I cannot see Zach because of the crowd. I tried my best to jump and see what was going on inside the circle. They tried to get past the crowd attacking them.

Because he stepped in to deal with them, he was involved. He didn't do anything. He didn't protect the scammer. he just wanted them out of his building and now they are throwing their anger toward him. It took them quite a long to get to the elevator. And that was when I saw Zach getting into the elevator and his head was bleeding.

My eyes widened when I saw his condition. I wanted to go to him but I couldn't walk past the people because they might become violent towards me and hit me like what they did to Zach.

He got hit? With what?

I was there, looking at the whole mess on the first floor while thinking about how I could come to Zach and check what has happened and if he was okay.

That was when the police came. I heard sirens going off on the highway and the people in red shirts started to panic. They just realized that what they were doing was wrong when they heard the police were coming.

The first floor slowly cleared up. I took the chance to get myself in the elevator and pressed the top floor. I was together with a few people who were also wondering what was happening on the first floor.

I was glad that they didn't notice that I pressed the top floor. They are going to wonder why I was planning on going to the floor Zach was occupying. I was alone when the girls stopped on the 15th floor and I was all alone when I got to the top floor. Right when the elevator opened, I saw Zach's secretary panicking while holding a white box which I think was a first aid kit. She looked up to me and did nothing.

I stepped out of the elevator and went to her. I know she already knew why I was here. "Where is he?" I asked.

"Please just come inside," she said and gave me the first aid kit.

I wasn't thinking what'll happen if I would really come inside the room so I did. I saw him immediately, he was holding his head with a white towel pressed on the wound. He was surprised when he saw me come into the room holding a first aid kit for him. He just looked at me as I walk towards him in shaky steps. "Sit on the chair," I told him and tried to remove the towel from his head to see what the wound looks like.

I tried not to mind him staring at me the whole time I was mending his wound. it was a small cut on his forehead. It was a lot more awkward with all his guards sitting on the sofa while casually looking at the both of us. I made him sit on his chair and I put the kit on the table.

It was awkward. A lot more awkward than how I imagined. Everybody in this room must've known about us and I just realized that barging here after thinking about it in a very short period of time was a mistake.

I mend his wound as fast as I could. it didn't need stitches so I just put a bandage on it. "Where did you get it?" I asked him as I put the bandage as the last step of the mending.

"Someone hit me with a wooden placard," he answered. It gives me chills when he looks up at my eyes whenever I make him look up to the ceiling to get a clear sight of the wound. I would always try my best to keep my eyes away but I couldn't help but glance at it and immediately looks away.

It was like a vacuum.

The wound was just near his eyebrows and I was glad I didn't get to make stitches because I know it'd leave a bigger scar on his face. I put a bandage on his head and finished the mending. "You should let a doctor see it," is to him.

I tried to talk to him as much as I could so things would get less awkward.

I kept on thinking about what I was doing here. I wish I never went in.

"I will, " he answered. "Thank you," he thanked me as I put the things back into the frits aid kit. I didn't say anything and continued doing what I was doing. When I was finished putting everything back into the kit, I looked at him because it was now time to say goodbye.

"Then, I'll go now," I said. I left the kit on the table and started walking out of his office.

"I'll drive you,"

No. Please don't,

"No need, I have my driver outside," I looked back to tell him. he went up from his seat and was on his way to follow me when I looked back. "I'm fine," I said and walked faster.

I walked past his secretary's post and saw her looking at me as I walk past her. I smiled and she did too. I knew she knew something. She knew me. I also had a lot to tell her but I can't. Not right now,

I went into the elevator and pressed the first floor. and put my head against the wall as I regret my life decisions
