Chereads / Thy Cruel Wendigo System / Chapter 5 - Misplaced Kindness (1)

Chapter 5 - Misplaced Kindness (1)

The time has finally come. I'm going to learn more about this world and all its inhabitants, even this new beast species. Uncle Kadar then sat on the couch right beside me, he wore a plain white shirt along with dark blue pants, which have bright yellow stars in them.

"I'll try my best to keep this short." He said just as my eyes began to flicker in and out. Then just before he begins talking another darn system message appears.

{Zero minutes of vision remaining}

[Your vision is now recharging!]

Just then I feel like one of those pop stars who have just been forced to cancel their music career, in other words, I feel as though a rug has been pulled from under me. Although my current perspective of the world isn't too grim, I can still see the movement of others. Followed by what I believe to be an enhancement in my hearing but for some reason, not my smell.

"You see, your father often came to me with the idea of creating a man-made power, or an incantation of some sort, like ancient times where the world had mages, and warlocks alike. And from what I've pieced together his lab's accident which not many survived from, Larry included destroyed many town areas. The lab's explosion released newfound chemicals into the air and ground, which lead to further deaths."

"All but animal losses."

"Common animals like pigs and cows were mutated. They gained newfound sentience and some even special kinds of abilities. Now for the other matter, Ki."

"Ki not only is some of your life force but ignited by the world's energy, or to keep it simple just world energy. Now controlling Ki is a bit of a hassle so many like yourself who have never used it before will require the proper guidance. Those without guidance will either never produce it while endlessly tiring themselves or after a few attempts use far too much of their life force, thus killing themselves in the process."

"No, I'll ask you just this once, do you want to be able to control Ki? If so, there are two things you must first complete before we may begin our training."

"One, you need to head into town not only to familiarize yourself with our currency but to sign up for applying to join the Golden. Lastly, I'll need you to say yes to becoming my Bronze Apprentice."

"He didn't even pause to make sure I understood everything correctly, he just continued moving forward. Well, I mean there is not much I need to understand but rather get used to, I'll have to live with my father's mistakes, and live with an actual Golden member. No wonder he could lift such large debris!"

I inwardly thought as I stuck out my hand and said the words…

"I accept, please mentor me!" After that Uncle Kadar shook my hand and left the room saying that I could have it from now on. Along with saying that I won't regret it and that I'm lucky to be mentored by such a high-ranking Golden member.

The next morning, I got out of bed and got dressed straight away. And even though I promised my uncle that I'd take one of the guards with me I didn't. Without a clue in the world as to where the Golden sign-ups are being held, I just began walking.

While walking I noticed two things about the people around me, some were poorly dressed and, on their knees, begging for the tiniest bit of food. Where some were finely dressed and using credits which were displayed on a tiny ring on their hand.

Well, I wasn't too far from my house, so I ran back and brought out a few loaves of bread. Then after they thanked me many of the children ran off and were the ones who appear somewhat around my age. Stare at me with a vicious gaze of hunger, and greed, before I know it, he lunges at me, and then the other two join him.

At the time, I didn't understand why they were punishing me for bringing them food? Just before the fastest and youngest of the three punched me to the ground, I heard the clicking sound of a pocketknife. While on the ground my head began to throb not only because of the impact but because I think another vision of the past is going to resurface.

[8/10 Life force remaining]

Although before it does, when all the kids stand over me, a move that I feel as though I've practiced a thousand times releases. I was like flowing water, I used my left hand to stabilize my weight and lift me a bit into the air, and swiftly my right leg to strike each of them right above the knee in one fast motion. I quickly got up knowing that this was the only opening I would have and gave each of the two punches in the chest while they were still in a daze.

At the time I knew that just one punch wouldn't be enough to send them to the ground. As the biggest one of the three fell to the ground, I gave him another punch to the face and took the pocketknife as my reward. I then grabbed his head and remembered the system message about somehow draining a person's Ki when my uncle reduced me.

As it appeared, I smiled with joy because I know that I can't go on any longer. Not only am I tired but with the headache this vision is providing, I feel like I'm about to drop down to the floor.

[Would you like to activate Ki Drain?]

I quickly pressed yes and was able to absorb this brute's Ki and the fast one's Ki.

[+ 5 Ki Obtained!]

[Ki Needed: 89]

Then I couldn't continue because I knew this feeling in my head, it was the same as the one before I was going to pass out. I run as fast as my legs can home, well that was my intention before I just settled for any old alleyway.

"I can't risk being exposed, so there's only one way I can do this," I said to myself as I began opening a trash can and stayed inside. Before I could even see anything, my vision blacked out but this time It was because of the vision.

Now I was actively crying on the floor holding my head. Just like before I could see the events unfold inside of my smaller body but not interact with them. Just then a man who closely resembled that man approached me and seeing as his foot was in the air, I'd bet a million dollars he was the one who kicked me.

"You need to stop crying and start training, or father will never let you go and hang out with Nora, and we all know how much you like Nora." This boy, no, my brother, why do I have such a strong admiration for him, and who's this Nora person?

As he said that, eight-year-old me stopped crying and took two pairs of nunchucks from a weapon racket. "Well, why can I just use my weapons then? Who's dumb enough to not carry one around and to fight with their fists?" I said while spinning the nunchuck in my right hand around like a helicopter.

"Oh, I didn't know just how much of this lesson I needed, oh the irony." I thought while my brother grabbed a wooden sword from the weapon rack.

"Unlike me, my brother's entire body is different, his skin tone is white like that man's, and his eyes are as green as emeralds. Whereas my skin tone is a mix between a lighter and darker pair like a yellow of some kind, and my eyes are purple. I wonder just what my mother looks like?"

I thought just as a woman opened the door and held a large circular tray of which treats, and triangle sandwiches lay, in her hand as she was about to entire the room. "Mother!" Eight-year-old me said as he rushed over to her side, but just like that the vision was over.

And I've learned nothing, but of my strange family and a girl I think called Nora, and I still can't remember my mother's face…
