Officer James groaned in pain as he thrashed his foot about, but the beast that had his ankle between its jaws, piercing his skin with its sharp teeth refused to let go, regardless of the beatings it got from the other officers that had it surrounded.
"T-The monster, it's the monster!" Officer Dean loudly panicked after somehow freeing his mouth from the piece of cloth used to silence him.
But it was only a dog.
"Sir, permission to shoot?!" one of the men questioned, but Officer James declined. He swung his foot with enough force that he could free his mauled ankle from the assault of the dog.
The dog released a loud whimper when its back connected harshly with one of the many thorned trees that lined the sides of the path. Its black and white fur was soiled by blotches of red from its open wounds and its glaring teeth were colored by the red of Officer James' blood.
